`Overview
`
`FAQs
`
`Q: What did Cisco acquire?
`
`A: Cisco has completed the acquistion of Springpath, a privately-held company based in Sunnyvale,
`CA, a leader in hyperconvergence software.
`
`Q: Can you explain Springpath’s offering?
`
`A: Springpath has developed a distributed file system purpose-built for hyperconvergence that
`provides server based storage systems. Cisco partnered with Springpath to integrate the
`hyperconvergence software-defined storage controller with the Cisco Unified Computing System
`(UCS) to deliver the industry’s first fully integrated hyperconvergence system which provides
`customers with industry leading performance to power more applications.
`
`Q: Why did Cisco choose to acquire Springpath?

`
`

`

`A: Cisco chose to acquire Springpath as they had taken an architectural approach to
`hyperconvergence by developing a file system that was purpose built for hyperconvergence. We
`believe that this architectural approach was necessary to deliver long-term sustainable differentiation.
`In January 2016, Cisco and Springpath made a mutual commitment to each other as a preferred
`strategic partner in delivering the HyperFlex platform based on Springpath’s hyperconvergence
`software. Since then, the two companies have fully aligned on product development and go-to-market
`strategies to deliver a successful solution for our customers.
`
`Q: Why is now the right time to acquire Springpath?
`
`A: Over the past 18 months, Cisco’s commercial relationship with Springpath has been mutually
`beneficial and the HyperFlex product has seen tremendous success. The product has also established
`a tremendous quality record with hundreds of trouble free production deployments. Once the product
`and engineering credibility of the product was established, we determined that an acquisition was
`needed at this time to grow the business further and solidify Cisco’s commitment to
`hyperconvergence.
