`
`Significance
`
`The patent attorney has historically played an important part in infringement and invalidation proceedings. He
`provides the court with a written explanation of the technical aspects of the dispute, on behalf of either the patentee
`or the infringing party. To formalize the fact that a patent attorney may also appear at a hearing, Section 82 specifies
`that a court of law may examine him in disputes referred to in Section 80. This does not mean that the patent
`attorney is given any authority to represent a party on a procedural basis. The attorney retains his responsibility as
`dominus litis.

`
`Betekenis
`
`procesvertegenwoordigingsbevoegdheid is gegeven.
