`
`
`Proceedings: (IN CHAMBERS) ORDER RE: STIPULATED PROTECTIVE ORDER
`
`The Court is in receipt of the parties’ proposed protective order (“Stipulation”), which
`Plaintiff filed on May 26, 2020. (Dkt. No. 67.) However, the Stipulation does not contain a good
`cause statement, and the Court may only enter a protective order upon a showing of good cause.
`See Kamakana v. City and Cnty. of Honolulu, 447 F.3d 1172, 1176 (9th Cir. 2006), Phillips v.
`Gen. Motors Corp., 307 F.3d 1206, 1210-11 (9th Cir. 2002), Makar-Wellbon v. Sony Elecs., Inc.,
`187 F.R.D. 576, 577 (E.D. Wis. 1999) (even stipulated protective orders require good cause
`showing). The parties’ mere designation of any information, document, or thing as confidential,
`proprietary, private, or other designation(s) used by parties does not constitute good cause.
`
`Accordingly, IT IS ORDERED that the parties shall revise the Stipulation to include a
`Good Cause Statement in support of the Stipulation and, no later than June 3, 2020: (1) file the
`amended Stipulation for Protective Order; and (2) email a writeable version to Judge Karen L.
`Stevenson’s chambers email address. Additionally, the parties are reminded that they will
`receive expedited consideration if they use the Court’s model protective order, available on
`the Court’s website, and provide a redline comparison between the model order and their proposed
`order.
`
`
`If the parties fail to comply with this order, the Stipulation will be denied.
