`
`Exemplary Evidence of Infringement
`
`1. An electric camera comprising:
`
`Each of the Accused Apple ’493 Products1, 2 includes and operates as an electric camera.
`See, e.g., iPhone User Guide (showing a “Camera” app and the ability to take photos and
`videos).
`For example, the Apple iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max include and operate
`as an electric camera, as evidenced by the “Camera” “built-in” application:
`
`https://www.apple.com/iphone-x/specs/ (MAXELL_APPLE0016166).
`
`1 The Accused Apple ’493 Products include Apple iPhone Products (e.g., iPhone XS (A1920), iPhone XS Max (A1921), iPhone XR
`(A1984), iPhone X (A1865/A1901), iPhone 8 Plus (A1864/A1897), iPhone 8 (A1863/A1905), iPhone 7 Plus (A1661/A1784), iPhone
`7 (A1660/A1778), iPhone 6s Plus (A1634/A1687), iPhone 6S (A1633/A1688), iPhone 6 Plus (A1522/A1524), iPhone 6
`(A1549/A1586), iPhone SE (A1723/A1662), iPhone 5S (A1453/A1533), and iPhone 5C (A1456/A1532)) and Apple iPad Products
`(e.g., iPad Pro (A1673 / A1674 / A1675)).
`2 Although this chart contains user guide descriptions and screen shots from infringing products operating using iOS 11 as partial
`evidence of the Accused Apple ’493 Products’ infringement, these products nevertheless infringe the ’493 Patent’s claims under other
`versions of iOS as well, such as iOS 12, which operate in substantially the same way for purposes of infringement of the ’493 Patent.
`Thus, the Accused Apple ’493 Products infringe regardless of which version of iOS they have installed.

`Third-party sources also verify this information. For example, reviewers of the iPhone X
`have recognized the presence of image sensing devices with light-receiving sensors in
`the iPhone X:
`
`https://www.gsmarena.com/apple_iphone_x-8858.php (MAXELL_APPLE0014961).
`
`In one non-limiting example of Apple’s infringement, each of these camera modules is
`an image sensing device with a light-receiving sensor (for example, in the form of an
`image sensor) having an array of pixels arranged vertically and horizontally in a grid
`pattern. On information and belief, at least the iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus each includes
`Sony Exmor RS image sensors (light-receiving sensors). E.g.,

`
`Exemplary Evidence of Infringement
`Accused Apple ’493 Products do not have a component to record in the static image
`mode, each of these products include software, hardware, or a combination of the two
`that perform the equivalent function of forming image signals by using all effective
`pixels of the image sensing device. Using this software, hardware, or combination of the
`two, these products perform substantially the same function in substantially the same
`way as claimed. The performance of this function achieves substantially the same result,
`for example, forming image signals by using all effective pixels of the image sensing
`device.
`
`Upon information and belief each of the Accused Apple ’493 Products monitors an
`image in the static image mode and the signal processing unit generates the image signals
`by using pixel lines that have been mixed or culled from the N number of vertically
`arranged pixel lines to only include pixel lines separated from one another by intervals of
`a first distance.
`Upon information and belief the displayed image is a downsampled/culled version of the
`image on the sensor, or the array of pixels from the area of the image sensor selected for
`read-out, with a lower number of lines than the image on the sensor as the resolution of
`the image sensor in the Apple ’493 Products is higher than the resolution of the display.
`As one example of Apple’s infringement, the iPhone X monitors an image in static
`mode. Upon information and belief, its A11 signal processing unit generates the image
`signals by using pixel lines that have been mixed or culled from the N number of
`vertically arranged pixel lines to only include pixel lines separated from one another by
`intervals of a first distance. On information and belief, Accused Apple ’493 Products
`may operate in static mode and use all effective pixels in recording static images or
`photographs.

`
`U.S. Patent No. 8,339,493
`
`Exemplary Evidence of Infringement
`On information and belief, the signal processing unit in the iPhone X mixes or culls pixel
`lines in order to downsample from about 4032 vertically arranged pixel lines used to
`display images having about 2436 vertically arranged pixel lines used to monitor in static
`image mode (for example, the number of vertically arranged pixels used in the iPhone
`X’s display screen). In mixing or culling the 4032 vertically arranged pixel lines of the
`iPhone X’s light-receiving sensor to the 2436 or fewer vertically arranged pixel lines
`used to monitor images in static image mode, the device’s signal processing unit reduces
`the signals from all N (4032) vertically arranged pixel lines by a factor of about 1.655
`(for example, using approximately every other pixel line). By using only every other
`pixel line, the monitored image would include only the odd-numbered (alternatively
`even-numbered) pixel lines from the original image, or a mixing of each odd-numbered
`pixel line with the adjacent even-numbered pixel line. Thus, in this example, the signal
`processing unit skips pixel lines of intervals of a distance of 1. (In an alternative way of

`
`Exemplary Evidence of Infringement
`As the preceding screenshots show, the iPhone X can record moving videos in a variety
`of video formats. On information and belief, each of the Accused Apple ’493 Products
`likewise records in a variety of video formats, including 4K, 1080p, and 720p.
`On information and belief, the signal processing unit in the iPhone X mixes or culls pixel
`lines in order to downsample from 4032 vertically arranged pixel lines used to record
`static images to the 720 vertically arranged pixel lines used to record images in 720p
`moving video mode. In mixing or culling the 4032 vertically arranged pixel lines of the
`iPhone X’s light-receiving sensor to the 720 vertically arranged pixel lines used in 720p
`moving video recording mode, the device’s signal processing unit reduces the signals
`from all N (4032) vertically arranged pixel lines by a factor of about 5.6 (for example,
`using approximately one out of every five pixel lines). Thus, in this example, the signal
`processing unit skips pixel lines of intervals of a distance of 4. (In alternative way of
`viewing Apple’s infringement, the interval of a first distance in this example is 5.)
`In another example, the signal processing unit in the iPhone X mixes or culls pixel lines
`in order to downsample from 4032 vertically arranged pixel lines used to record static
`images to the 1080 vertically arranged pixel lines used to record images in 1080p moving
`video mode. In mixing or culling the 4032 vertically arranged pixel lines of the iPhone
`X’s light-receiving sensor to the 1080 vertically arranged pixel lines used in 1080p
`moving video recording mode, the device’s signal processing unit reduces the signals
`from all N (4032) vertically arranged pixel lines by a factor of about 3.733 (for example,
`using approximately one out of every four pixel lines). Thus, in this example, the signal
`processing unit skips pixel lines of intervals of a distance of 3. (In alternative way of
`viewing Apple’s infringement, the interval of a first distance in this example is 4.)
