`
`Telecommunications equipment maker Huawei Technologies (USA) has signed a lease
`for 103,331 square feet of office space in Legacy Place II in Plano to serve as the
`company’s sales and marketing headquarters for North America.

`
`The six-story building at 5700 Tennyson Pkwy. will initially house about 400 sales and
`marketing employees coming from two current locations, at 1301 W. George Bush
`Turnpike in Richardson and 2301 W. Plano Pkwy. in Plano. The job count in Legacy
`Place II is expected to increase to as many as 600 employees by December 2012, said
`John Shaunfield, principal of commercial real estate firm Newmark Knight Frank,
`which represented Huawei.
`
`The company’s research and development facility at 1700 Alma Drive in Plano will not
`be affected.
`
`Huawei's pending expansion at 5700 Tennyson Pkwy. initially was reported in the Nov.
`6 print edition of the Dallas Business Journal. Huawei, a Chinese communications
`technology firm, makes wired and wireless infrastructure.
`
`The move to Legacy Place II will allow Huawei, one of the fastest-growing telecom
`companies in the world, to continue its expansion plans, Shaunfield said in an interview.
`
`"The overall location, accessibility around the Metroplex and the other corporate
`neighbors in the area fit well for a corporate headquarters-like location," Shaunfield
`said.
`
`The Huawei lease takes occupancy at the 150,000-square-foot Legacy Place II building
`to 75 percent. Huawei's signage will go onto the building as part of the deal.
`
`The building, owned by institutional investors advised by J.P. Morgan Asset
`Management, was represented by Sandie Matejek, senior vice president, and Shannon
`Brown, vice president, with Jones Lang LaSalle. Huawei Technologies was represented
`Kyle Jett, transaction manager with Newmark Knight Frank, as well as Shaunfield.
`
`The building's owners recently have completed $500,000 worth of common-area
`improvements, Matejek said. The improvements included renovation of the lobby,
`elevator cabs, hallways and restrooms, a refurbished sign and a new touch-screen
`building directory.
`
`The Plano City Council on Monday approved an economic incentive grant for Huawei
`totaling $712,800 spread over two years for job retention and creation. To get the cash,
`the company must employ at least 594 people at the 5700 Tennyson location by
`December 2012.
`
`Plano Mayor Phil Dyer said Huawei Technologies has been a valuable member of
`Plano’s business community since the company located its U.S. headquarters in the city
`in 2001.
`
`"The city recognized that Huawei’s sales and marketing expansion could more than
`double their presence here and set the stage for much of the company’s future U.S.
`growth plans," Dyer said in a prepared statement. "Plano provided the right

`search. We are honored that Huawei will grow and prosper in Plano for years to come.”
