`
`I am thinking of making a Iego case for my xbox. I am fully aware that this has been done
`before, but i have seen pictures and none of them have come out too well and i was
`thinking that i would put alot of time into this one, and either find blocks all the same color
`or spray paint the blocks all the same color to look better. Then i was thinking that i could
`hot glue some Iego blocks sideways onto the dvd bezel so that it would have the textured
`top part facing outwards....making the slot blend in but also be noticeably diferent. I was
`also thinking of trap doors-type-of-thing for the controller ports (i am looking at some door
`like peices that i could use and they would slide inwards for hiding and storage) and then i
`would use Iego window peieces on the sides so that there was some visibility. I have
`started to build the lbase etc. of the case, but i am waiting on the arrival of the xbox parts
`that i am going to use on the inside. I am also planning on putting the case on little feet, so
`that i could have an intake fan on the underside creating some better airflow through the
`rear. I will post pics as soon as the parts come (hopefully soon), but until then what do you
`think and do you have any other ideas?
`Thanks

`
`you could line the top edges with Iego guy heads
`
`But for the dvd i would dremmle all of
`
`the top of the Iego of so you had a thin top pice to bend in to shape or you could buy a flat
`pice of Iego and cut it into shape.

`
`yeah the flat piece was sorta was i was talking about..but a little different|y...and also
`there should be no dremmeling invo|ved..maybe some drilling to add screw mounts but ithink
`that should be it....a|so i decided on an all black design...with a green X painted or
`somehow designed in legos on the top...i think that would be real cool .

`
`Don't worry about putting a fan on the underside. There's not enough space for the air to
`efficiently move around the MOBO to make a difference. Additionally, adding that fan,
`whether sucking or blowing, would impede airflow to the parts that desperately need teh
`cooling effects of efficient air flow.
`
`I do like the idea. ANd you've got to make it so that you can stick lego dudes above or on
`each controller port to represent who's plugged in!

`
`Feb 21 2005, 07:14 PM
`
`i suggest getting LegoCad or LegoInventor (both free when i got them at least) they have a
`catelog of lego parts and let you make "instructions" on how you should build what you
`designed, I made a couple of things in the past, works really well
`
`shooptek
`
`Feb 21 2005, 07:48 PM
`
`nah i almost feel like that would be cheating....but got a link anyway so i can check it out? i
`searched google and all ifound were lego sets and stuff
`
`a|so...good idea about the lego guys but i would never feel like getting up to move the little
`fuckers haha
`
`alright i wont do the fan on the underside...but then i am worried about circulation because
`there wouldnt be much space for air to travel to the inside of the case (to replace the grille
`on the side of the standard xbox case). Maybe i will just make some small vents on the
`sides of the case to allow air to travel in and out
`

`
`wow...i gotta see how this turns out
`
`minnow
`
`Feb 21 2005, 08:17 PM
`
`For side vents, just use the thin slivers of legos, a combination of long and short ones to
`make a ventilated wall or two.

`
`i have decided that spray paint wont look as good as all black |egos...and i dont think i have
`enough all black |egos..so maybe the front will be b|ack...the sides green or white...and the
`back can be whatever because noone is ever going to see the back...i will try to make it all
`black if i have enough peieces but i dont think i do and i dont really want to spend money
`on the blocks if i dont HAVE to. the green X on top is going to be really hard to make look
`good out of lego b|ocks...but...i was thinking rather than the X being spraypainted on...i
`would make it out of legos (even if it looks a little jagged because of the outlines and

`
`Don't clip off the screw holes from an old XBOX and hot glue them onto the lego case!
`
`IF you were going to do something like that, epoxy would work better.
`
`However, the MOBO screws are threaded so that they dig into those plastic holes very well.
`The truth is,
`if you just drill 4-6 holes in your lego case base where the screws go, you'll be
`able to sink the screws into those holes.
`.
`. and the threading on the screw will dig in
`
`fabulously in the lego plastic.

`
`A version 1.1 will save you a little time and maybe even a little precious room! Becasue
`there is no daughterboard, you'll have more clearance for your controller ports. When I built

`maby you could make a dvd window out of clear Iegos (have a few but don't know if they
`still make them . )
`
`shooptek
`
`Feb 23 2005, 04:01 PM
`
`yeah maybe i will try to make a dvd window, but i was thinking that i would be using the flat
`panel type Iegos to make the top. I was doing some brainstorming last night lying and bed
`and this is what i came up with:
`
`I figured out how i would make the roof removable. I was thinking i would use some over the
`legod with the smooth top, and make a trim all along the outside rim of the top of the case
`with those. Then the cover would sit on top of that, with a few blocks placed just inside
`where those flat parts are, to create a guide sort of, and it would sorta stay in place. Hard
`to describe.
`
`I figured out how i would mount the mobo and PSU. I was looking at my tool box and i found
`a little baggy with the little brass mounts that sit under mobo's on computers. I would drill
`holes into the Iegos and stick those in, then screw the mobo onto those.
`
`Now the only main challenge that i have remaining is how to fit the power and eject buttons
`in somewhere...and how to mount them. I was thinking that i could cut out that small
`square which holds the eject and power buttons on the front of an old front panel to an
`xbox that i have, and stick that in somehow, and put that behind a door/window with a
`swinging hatch, so i would open and close the hatch when i wanted to eject/turn power on
`the xbox. I thought that was sorta a creative idea but i am not sure if it would work.
`Suggestions welcome as always!
`
`shooptek
`
`Feb 24 2005, 03:56 AM
`
`found another addition....i am going to attempt to integrate a 12" or 11" old laptop lcd
`screen that i had lying around. I am not sure how i will do this, because it will cause the
`size of the case to be quite large. I may have to put the controller ports on the side of the
`case. We will have to see how everything fits tommorow i guess
`
`*good news, im getting started tommorow and should have some pics posted by tommorow
`(thursday) night!
`
`iforgotmyname
`
`Feb 24 2005, 04:10 AM
`
`for the power/eject buttons you could just take a block out from in frount of each button
`and put a lego of a different color in frount of each then eather glue or find a way to mount
`the bourd on the inside so the buttons are aginst the different colored Iegos. but the Iegos
`would have to be loose so you could push them .
