`
`[Detailed Description of the Design]
`[0001]
`[Industrial Field of Application]
`
`The present design considers that traffic safety is the first priority. If a driver can watch
`monitoring televisions installed near his/her driving seat, the driver can grasp the traffic
`conditions behind the car without looking away from the front view, and he/she may concentrate
`on driving safely. Such televisions may also assist parallel parking and parking in a garage
`because the camera (3) can detect obstacles right behind the car.
`
`[0002]
`[Prior Art]
`
`In an automobile with the prior art, there is a set of three mirrors: two side mirrors and a
`rear-view mirror. It was also difficult to check right behind a track if cargos were loaded on the
`track.
`
`[0003]
` [Problems that the Design is to Solve]
`
`The prior art has the following technological disadvantages:
`
`(i) For checking behind and/or left/right, although a driver must watch two side mirrors
`and a rear-view mirror, it is inadequate to grasp the whole traffic flow behind the automobile
`he/she is driving;
`
`(ii) When changing lanes, the right side mirror is relatively easy to watch (in Japan) while
`the left side mirror is very much away from the front view, causing a safety issue;
`
`(iii) For checking right behind the driving car, it is necessary to see it through a back
`window, and the driver must estimate the distance to an obstacle intuitively; and
`
`(iv) Raindrops easily attach to the surfaces of the side mirrors, which spoils visibility,
`and raindrops on the back window reduce the visibility of the rear-view mirror.
`
`
`
`[0004]
`[Means to Solve the Problems]
`
`The present design installs miniature color television cameras (1) and (2) at the positions
`or near the side mirrors of a car and another miniature television camera (3) at the center of the
`back of the car. A driver may watch a television screen on which an image composed from three
`images captured by the television cameras (1), (2), and (3) is displayed, whereby it is easy to see
`behind the car at once using the television cameras in lieu of the side mirrors and the rear-view
`mirror.
`
`[0005]
`
`The present design was considered to avoid these disadvantages.

`
`[Operation of the Design]
`
`(i) The cameras (1), (2), and (3) may be adjusted stepwise vertically, and at each step,
`images captured by the three cameras are trimmed by the television monitor (4) to compose a
`single image to display.
`
`(ii) The cameras (1), (2), and (3) are installed at the same height so that the monitor
`television (4) may integrate captured images correctly.
`
`(iii) The cameras (1), (2), and (3) have open-close mechanisms and they are opened when
`the engine starts and additionally they may be opened with another switch.
`
`(iv) Because drivers are accustomed to side mirrors, the horizontal image range may be
`the same as that of the side mirrors.
`
`(v) The cameras (1), (2), and (3) have covers made of transparent glass for protecting
`camera lenses and cleaning capability for rains upon opening and closing the cameras.
`
`[0006]
`[Effects of the Design]
`
`(i) For checking the rear view, it is possible to watch the rear view easily with a single
`television mirror near the driver’s seat instead of the three mirrors of the prior art successively.
`
`(ii) Because the front view and the monitor television are close, the rear view may be
`
`checked with nearly the same viewing actions and safe driving may be established.
`
`(iii) When it rains, turning on an open-close switch may clean raindrops upon opening
`
`and closing the cameras.
`
`(iv) Including a track with loaded cargos, any automobile may check the rear view,
`
`whereby parking in a garage and parallel parking are easily maneuvered and obstacles behind the
`automobile may also be detected.
