`
`Neptune Technologies & Bioressources Soon to Obtain a
`Major Patent in Over 30 Countries
`
`MONTREAL, QUEBEC--Neptune Technologies & Bioressources Inc.
`announces that it has reached the final stage to obtain a patent
`on the industrial process for extracting Neptune OceanExtract(TM)
`applied to Krill - the most abundant animal biomass on the planet
`whose organic components are highly sought by the nutraceutical,
`cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. The patent application
`entitled "Method of Extracting Lipids from Marine and Aquatic
`Animal Tissues" was the subject of procedures going back to
`October 1998 for the filing of the Canadian patent, including the
`PCT international application phase, up to the examination by the
`European patent office, which accepted most of the claims made by
`the Université de Sherbrooke (Department of Biology of the Faculty
`of Science). It should be pointed out that the patent application
`has been filed in the definitive national phase in more than 30
`countries, including Canada, the United States, the European
`Community, Brazil, Chile, Australia, Japan, China, Korea and
`Russia.
` unique cold extraction process preserving the major properties
`of Krill
`
`The industrial process for extracting Neptune OceanExtract(TM)
`applied to Krill, developed in close collaboration with the
`Université de Sherbrooke, has the distinct advantage of being a
`cold process that preserves the biological activity and stability
`of the nutritional qualities intrinsic to the most highly sought
`substances of Krill, such as its powerful antioxidants,
`phospholipids and Omega-3-6-9 fatty acids, while ensuring the
`microbial destruction of the obtained extracts. The result is
`products that are healthy and safe for human consumption, with
`moreover an extensive lifespan for marketing purposes, without any
`preservatives. Neptune OceanExtract(TM) is also a simple process
`that allows a high extraction yield and the recycling and recovery
`of the extraction residues.
`
`"The virtues of Krill are increasingly recognized by the
`international scientific community, especially for the primary
`prevention of cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, inflammatory
`diseases and some mental illnesses. We are pleased that we have
`completed these crucial steps, which bode well for us to obtain
`our patents. In late 2001 or early 2002, we plan to start
`manufacturing our first Neptune Krill Oil(TM) and Neptune
`Aquateine(TM) products, initially targeting the fast-expanding
`North American nutraceutical market, and subsequently the European
`and Asian markets. Sales in this market in the United States
`totalled US$92 billion in 1999 and are growing at an average of
`30% annually," indicated Henri Harland, President and Chief
`Executive Officer of Neptune.

`high-performance technological processes used in the production of
`value-added natural products such as Omega-3 oils, protein
`concentrates, amino acid concentrates and other marine and aquatic
`biomass extracts which it intends to market for innovative
`nutraceutical, cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications. The
`principal marine biomasses currently being studied by the Company
`are krill, seal and fish residues.
`
`Neptune is currently carrying out its initial public offering, for
`which the underwriters are Hampton Securities Ltd.
