The second noteworthy switching technol- ogy is asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), which is pop- ular among telecommunications service providers in wide area networks.
Thus, a switch adds the star topol- ogy (see Figure 3.1) to the point-to-point link, bus (Ethernet), and ring (802.5 and FDDI) topologies established in the last chapter.
It is a lot harder to create the for- warding tables in large, complex networks with dynamically changing topologies and multiple paths between destinations.
One of the important goals of the ARPANET, forerunner to the Internet, was to develop networking technology that would be robust in a military environment, where you might expect links and nodes to fail because of active attacks such as bombing.

The computers may, for In a second embodiment of the invention each node for example, be located in a common ofEce, or alternatively joining a peer-to-peer ring-ordered dynamically reconfig separated from each other by great distances.
Other and further aspects and advantages of vices Digital Network (ISDN), they tend to require special, the present invention will become apparent in the following highly sophisticated cabling and circuitry.
For those skilled in the art recognize as a common interface by those skilled in the art recognize as a common interface by further example, an embodiment of an ISDN line having six further example, an embodiment of an ISDN line having six which expansion cards are connected to a computer; which expansion cards are connected to a computer; B channels and one D channels can also be used.
The present invention contemplates the addition of the variable X, then control is returned to step 46, and the a node to the network in two situations, although the entire process is repeated.
In an embodiment of the are now connected to one another in FIG. 8. invention based on ISDN, the bandwidth of the data ring is Referring now to FIG. 9, a flow chart of the preferred 50 usually 64,000 bits per second (bps) in each direction.

1005 Exhibit: Exhibit 1005 Francis Yallcast

Document IPR2017-01600, No. 1005 Exhibit - Exhibit 1005 Francis Yallcast (P.T.A.B. Jun. 16, 2017)
Viewed this way, the majority of what gets transmitted over the internet is distribution: mail, news, web pages (HTML) and files of all types (jpg, mp3, etc.), chat, channels, DNS records, audio-video broadcasts, and so on.
In addition to open standards like NNTP, IRC, ICP, RFC822 mail headers, and so on, many companies offer proprietary server-based systems: Pointcast for its channels, Tivoli for its software distribution, Tibco for its publish/subscribe stuff, RealNetworks for its audio-video broadcasts, and on and on.
In fact, a key objective of most reliable transport protocols for IP multicast is to build a tree (among routers or among hosts, depending on the scheme) over which acks or naks can be sent.
Recently the IETF chartered an ad hoc group, called maddogs, to explore ways to overcome the problems of IP multicast and to make it more suitable for commercial products and services.
All other intent to joins are stamped as rejected and replicated, with one copy going back the way it came over the reverse path to flush it from the loop detection maps, and the other going directly to the originator.

Member Discovery • Learn of other members to build topologies – Contact Rendezvous (initial) – Parent-side tree anycast or mesh anycast discovery messages (background activity) – Navigate tree (as-needed foreground activity) – If root, broadcast “I am root” message, inform rendezvous 0009
Root Path • Analogous to BGP AS-path • Transmitted parent to child – Each member appends itself to received root path • Discovers loops after tree change 0011
How Loops Form “Simultaneous” changes by multiple members (e.g. P and L)
Coordinated Loop Avoidance • Send “Intent to Join” along tree from joining member to new parent • Members along the path record intended change • Members along the path check for and block incompatible changes 0020
