`
`Response to Arguments
`
`2.
`
`Applicant's argumentsfiled 07/03/2024 have been fully considered but they are not persuasive.
`
`Applicant’s first argumentis as follows:
`
`“Knopp doesnotrelate to display devices, but rather discusses conveyer belts. Knopp, Abstract. It is
`
`respectfully submitted that one of ordinary skill in the art would not have been motivated to consider
`
`conveyorbelts at the time of the present invention.”
`
`Examiner’s Response: Knoppdiscloses in [0011], [0015], [0018] a bearing side of a conveyor belt (i.e.,
`
`rotation belt) is resilient and planar (i.e., flat), which is analogous to the rotation belt in the instant
`
`application, and therefore, would have prompted one of ordinary skill in the art to modify “Kim” in view
`
`of “Han” with “Knopp” in a predictable manner to obtain the result of the claimed invention.
`
`Applicant’s arguments with respect to amended claim(s)1 and 9 have been considered but are moot
`
`because the new ground of rejection does not rely on any reference applied in the prior rejection of
`
`record for any teaching or matter specifically challengedin the argument.

`The following is a quotation of the first paragraph of 35 U.S.C. 112(a):
`
`Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 112
`
`(a) INGENERAL.—The specification shall contain a written description of the invention, and
`of the manner and process of making and usingit, in such full, clear, concise, and exact terms as to
`enable any person skilled inthe art to which it pertains, or with which it is most nearly connected, to
`make and use the same, and shall set forth the best mode contemplated by the inventor or joint
`inventor of carrying out the invention.

`
`The following is a quotation of the first paragraph of pre-AlA 35 U.S.C. 112:
`
`The specification shall contain a written description of the invention, and of the manner and
`process of making and usingit, in such full, clear, concise, and exact terms as to enable any person
`skilledin the art to whichit pertains, or with which itis most nearly connected, to make and use the
`same, and shall set forth the best mode contemplated by the inventor of carrying out his invention.
`
`2.
`
`Claim 1 and 9 (andby virtue of dependence,all the claims) are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 112(a)
`
`or 35 U.S.C. 112 (pre-AlA), first paragraph,as failing to comply with the enablement requirement. The
`
`claim(s) contains subject matter which was not described in the specification in such a way as to enable
`
`oneskilled in the art to which it pertains, or with which it is most nearly connected, to make and/or use
`
`the invention. Claim 1, line 9 cites “and the display panel wraps aroundthe rotation belt repeatedly”.
`
`Claim 9, line 13 cites the same limitation. The Applicant’s disclosure does not provide sufficient detail on
`
`how the display panel is mounted to the accommodating portion or how therolling/unrolling of the
`
`display panel around the rotation belt is performed. If the display panel is released from the rotation
`
`belt, then it not understood howit can be returnedto being reattached and repeatedly wrapped around
`
`the rotation belt. Therefore, it cannot be understood how theclaim limitations of “the display panel is
`
`extended by being released from the rotationbelt ina first direction” and “the display panel wraps
`
`aroundthe rotation belt repeatedly” are performed within Applicant’s invention. Examiner will interpret
`
`the limitation as “and the display panel wraps aroundthe rotation belt”, for the purpose of examination.
`
`Claim Rejections - 35 USC § 103
`
`3.
`
`The following is a quotation of 35 U.S.C. 103 which forms the basis for all obviousness rejections
`
`set forth in this Office action:
`
`A patent for a claimed invention may not be obtained, notwithstanding that the claimed invention is
`not identically disclosed as set forthin section 102, if the differences between the claimed invention
`and the prior art are such that the claimed invention as a whole would have been obvious before the
`effective filing date of the claimed invention to a person having ordinaryskill in the art to which the
`claimed invention pertains. Patentability shall not be negated by the manner in which the invention
`was made.

`
`Claims 1-5, 9-13, 18-20 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 103 as being unpatentable over Kim etal. (US
`
`10671124 B2 “Kim” hereinafter), in view of Han et al. (Han-IDS provided by applicant US 10573695 B2;
`
`“Hans”hereinafter), and further in view of Luo et al (US 20220253104 A1; Luo” hereinafter).
`
`Regarding claim 1 Kim teachesa display device (Kim Col. 1 Lines 45-46 discloses a rollable
`
`display device (i.e., display device)) comprising: a first roller (Kim, Col. 6 lines 59-62 fig 1“RM1”,
`
`disclosesa first rotation member(i.e., first roller)) and a second roller (Kim Col. 6 lines 59-62 fig 1
`
`“RM2”, discloses a second rotation member{i.e., second roller) spaced apart from each other
`
`(Kim Col. 6 lines 59-62 disclosesa first rotation member (i.e., first roller) and a second rotation
`
`member(i.e., second roller) spaced apart from each other)); anda display panel (DM, Kim Col. 8 lines
`
`65-70 discloses a display panel), wherein the display panel is extended by being released from the
`
`rotation belt in a first direction (Kim Col. 10 lines 8-10 discloses a handle that the user maypullto
`
`expose (i.e., extend) the display module{i.e., display panel) outside the housing inafirst direction (fig
`
`6 “DRI”)).
`
`Kim does not explicitly disclose a rotation belt surrounding the first roller and the second
`
`roller, it does not explicitly disclose a portion of the display panel disposed on the rotation belt, and it
`
`doesnot explicitly disclose a surface of the rotation belt that extends to the first roller and the second
`
`roller and thatis parallel to the first direction is flat, and the display panel wraps around the rotation
`
`belt. However, Han teaches a rotation belt surrounding thefirst roller and the second roller (Han Col. 2
`
`lines 5-7, discloses a driving wheel, a driven wheel(i.e., first roller, second roller), surrounded bya
`
`transmission belt (i.e., rotation belt, fig 1 and fig. 3); including a portion disposed on the rotation belt
`
`(Han Col. 2 lines 9-11 disclosesa flexible display (i.e., display panel) supported by a transmission belt
`
`{i.e., rotation belt, fig 1 and fig. 3).
`
`It would have been obvious to one of ordinaryskill in the art before the effectivefilling date of
`
`the claimed invention to replace each of Kim’s rotation members RM1 and RM2 with a rotation belt and

`
`achieve rotational display, as disclosed by Han (Col. 2 Lines 1-5, Lines 44-47).
`
`Kim in view of Han doesnot explicitly disclose: a surface of a rotation belt that extends to thefirst
`
`roller and the second roller and that is parallel to the first direction is flat, and the display panel wraps
`
`around the rotation belt.
`
`However, Luo teaches: a surface of a rotation belt (4, fig. 6) that extendsto the first roller (2, fig. 6) and
`
`the secondroller (3, fig. 6) and that is parallel to the first directionis flat (see annotatedfig. 6 below),
`
`and the display panel wraps around the rotation belt (as understood upon examination offig. 6 and
`
`paragraph [0024]).

`
`It would have been obvious to one of ordinary skill in the art before the effectivefilling date of
`
`the claimed invention to modify the combination of Kim and Han as defined above, in order to define a
`
`flat surface of the rotation belt between the two rollers, and a display panel rolled around the rotation
`
`belt , for the advantage of reducing damage asa result of local stress concentration onthe display panel,
`
`as taught by Luo (paragraph [0024]-[0025]).

`
`Regarding claim 2, Kim in view of Han and Luo teachesthe display device of claim 1, wherein
`
`the first roller and the second roller are spaced apart from each other in the first direction (Kim Col. 6
`
`lines 59-62 disclosesafirst rotation member (i.e., first roller) and asecond rotation member{i.e.,
`
`second roller) spaced apart from each other)).
`
`Regarding claim 3, Kim in view of Han and Luo teachesthe display device of claim 2, wherein a
`
`distance between thefirst roller and the second roller is constant (Kim Col. 2 lines 47-50 discloses a
`
`distance of the first rotation member(i.e., first roller) from the groovein the first direction may be
`
`equal ({i.e., constant) to a distance of the second rotation memberfromthe grovein the first
`
`direction)).
`
`Regarding claim 4, Kim in view of Han and Luo teachesthe display device of claim 3, wherein
`
`the first roller and the second roller rotate in a same direction (Kim Col. 6 lines 64-67 discloses that
`
`each ofthe first and second rotation members(i.e., first roller, second roller) may rotate in a
`
`clockwise or counterclockwise direction about a rotation axis )).
`
`Regarding claim 5, Kim in view of Han and Luo teachesthedisplay device of claim 4, wherein
`
`the first roller and the second roller are rotatable with respect to a rotation axis that is paralleltoa
`
`second direction perpendicular to the first direction (Kim Col. 6 lines 58-67 discloses The first rotation
`
`member RAUL {Le., first roller] and the second rotation member RMé {Le., second roller} may be
`
`spaced apart fram each other in the first direction DRI f.e., first direction). Each ofthe first and
`
`second rotation members RMI and RMZ may have a cylindrical shape extending in a second direction

`
`Regarding claim9 Kim teaches a display device comprising: an accommodating portion (Kim
`
`Col6 lines 41-43 fig 1 “HS”, discloses housing(i.e., accommodating portion)) including a rolling
`
`member (Kim, Col 6 lines 59-62 fig 1 “RM1”, discloses a first rotation member (i.e., first roller),) anda
`
`secondroller (Kim Col 6 lines 59-62 fig 1 “RM2”, discloses a second rotation member(i.e., second
`
`roller); and a display panel (Kim Col. 8 lines 65-70 discloses a display panel) that is accommodated in
`
`the accommodating portion while being wound aroundthe rolling member of the accommodating
`
`portion and that extends from the accommodating portion ina first direction while being unwound from
`
`the rolling member (Kim Col 2 lines 5-17 and lines 31-34 describe a display module(i.e. display panel)
`
`configured to enter and exit a housing (i.e. accommodating portion)in a first direction, while rolling or
`
`sliding on the rotation members), wherein the rolling member includes: a first roller and a second roller
`
`spaced apart from each other (Kim Col 6 lines 59-62 disclosesa first rotation member(i.e., first roller)
`

`
`panel includes a portion on the rotation belt in the accommodating portion {Kim Col 2 lines 5-12 and
`
`lines 31-34) describes a display module(i.e., display panel) that may enter and exit a housing (i.e.,
`
`accommodating member).
`
`Kim does not explicitly disclose a rotation belt surrounding the first roller and the second roller, and it
`
`does not explicitly disclose a surface of the rotation belt that extends to the first roller and the second
`
`roller and thatis parallel to the first direction is flat, and the display panel wraps around the rotation
`
`belt.
`
`However, Han Col. 2 lines 9-11 discloses a transmission belt (i.e., rotation belt, fig 1 and fig. 3)
`
`and a rotation belt surrounding thefirst roller and the secondroller (Han Col 2 lines 5-7, discloses a

`
`driving wheel, a driven wheel(i.e., first roller, second roller), surrounded by a transmission belt(i.e.,
`
`rotation belt, fig 1 and fig. 3).
`
`It would have been obvious to one of ordinary skill in the art before the effectivefilling date of
`
`the claimed invention to modify Kim’s teaching with Han because incorporation of a rotation belt
`
`surrounding the first roller and the secondroller in the rollable display device, would allow support of
`
`the display panel in order to achieve rotational display, as disclosed by Han (Col. 2 Lines 5-1, Lines 44-
`
`47).
`
`Luo teaches a surface of a rotation belt (4, fig. 6) that extends to the first roller (2, fig. 6) and the second
`
`roller (3, fig. 6) and that is parallel to the first direction is flat (see annotatedfig. 6 below) , and the

`
`Regarding claim 18, Kim in view of Han and Luo teachesthedisplay device of claim 9, wherein
`
`the display panel includes a driving area (Kim fig 4 “MA”discloses a mounting area(i.e., driving area

`
`Regarding claim 19, Kim in view of Han and Luo teachesthedisplay device of claim 9, further
`

`
`Regarding claim 7, Kim in view of Han and Luo teachesthe display device of claim 1. However,
`
`the combination fails to explicitly teach how grooveportions or convex portions are disposed ona
`
`surfaceofthe first roller and a surface of the second roller with respect to the surface of the rotation
`
`belt. However, Knopp teaches wherein groove portions or convex portions are disposed on a surface of
`
`the first roller and a surface of the second roller, and a surface of the rotation belt includes: convex
`
`parts inserted into the groove portions of the first and second rollers; or groove parts into which the
`
`convexportions of the first and secondrollers are inserted (Knopp paragraphs [0051]-[0052] discloses
`
`the notches(i.e., Convex portions) and ridges(i.e., groove parts) can be configured for example having
`
`a semi-circular cross section (i.e., convex, transversely to the longitudinal axis thereof).
`
`It would have been obvious to one of ordinary skill in the art before the effectivefilling date of
`
`the claimed invention to incorporate Knopp’s teaching into Kim as modified by Han, since the
`
`implementation of notches (i.e., convex portions) and ridges(i.e., grooves) in the
`
`rotation belt in order to optimize belt to roller grip, would prevent lateral slipping and reducefriction
`
`losses (Knopp paragraphs [0005] and [0010]).
`
`Regarding claim 8, Kim in view of Han, Luo and Knoppteaches the display device of claim 7,
`
`wherein a planar shape of the groove portions or the convex portions and a planar shape of the convex
`
`parts or the groove parts area same shape. (Knopp paragraph [0081] discloses ridges(i.e., groove

`
`not explicitly disclose: wherein a width of the surface of the rotation belt parallel to the first direction is
`
`greater thana thickness of the rotation belt measuredin a direction perpendicular to the first direction.
`
`However Knopp teachesa width of the surface of the rotation belt parallel to the first direction
`
`is greater thana thickness of the rotation belt measuredin a direction perpendicular tothefirst
`
`direction (Knopp paragraph [0015] discloses a “conveyorbelt”(i.e., rotation belt) within the meaning
`
`of embodiments ofthe invention is a resilient, planar, for example substantially cuboid, body, the
`
`extension (i.e., width of the surface of the rotation belt parallel) of which is substantially greater in
`
`the conveyor belt plane (i.e., thickness of the rotation belt) than perpendicularly thereto), while
`
`paragraph [0039] discloses A conveyor belt (i.e., rotation belt) thickness of the conveyor belt
`
`perpendicularly to the conveying(i.e., first direction) plane.
`
`It would have been obvious to one of ordinary skill in the art before the effectivefilling date of
`
`the claimed invention to incorporate Knopp’s teaching into Kim as modified by Han,since a resilient low
`
`wear rotation belt (i.e., conveyor belt) with a planar (i.e., flat) and cuboid surface, would allow support
`
`of the display panel (Knopp paragraph [0014] and [0015]).
`
`Regarding claim 16, Kim in view Han and Luo teachesthedisplay device of claim 9. However,
`
`the combination fails to explicitly teach how grooveportions or convex portions are disposed ona

`
`surfaceofthe first roller and a surface of the second roller with respect to the surface of the rotation
`
`belt.
`
`However, Knoppteaches wherein groove portions or convex portions are disposed on a surface
`
`of the first roller and a surface of the second roller, and a surface of the rotation belt includes: convex
`
`parts inserted into the groove portions of the first and second rollers; or groove parts into which the
`
`convexportions of the first and secondrollers are inserted (Knopp paragraphs [0051]-[0052] discloses
`
`the notches{i.e., Convex portions) and ridges{i.e., groove parts) can be configured for example having
`
`a semi-circular cross section (i.e., convex, transversely to the longitudinal axis thereof).
`
`It would have been obvious to one of ordinary skill in the art before the effectivefilling date of
`
`the claimed invention to incorporate Knopp’s teaching into Kim as modified by Han, since the
`
`implementation of notches(i.e., convex portions) and ridges(i.e., grooves) in the
`
`rotation belt would to optimize belt to roller grip, and would prevent lateral slipping and reducefriction
`
`losses (Knopp paragraphs [0005] and [0010]).
`
`Regarding claim 17, Kim in view Han, Luo and Knopp teachesthedisplay device of claim 16,
`
`wherein a planar shape of the groove portions or the convex portions and a planar shape of the convex
`
`parts or the groove parts area same shape (Knopp paragraph [0081] discloses ridges (i.e., groove
`
`parts) and the notches(i.e., Convex portions) may be of a shape that is complementary(i.e., same
`
`shape).
`
`It would have been obvious to one of ordinary skill in the art before the effectivefilling date of
`
`the claimed invention to incorporate Knopp’s teaching into Kim as modified by Han, since the
`
`implementation of notches(i.e., convex portions) and ridges(i.e., grooves) in the rotation belt would to
`
`optimize belt to roller grip, and would prevent lateral slipping and reducefriction losses (Knopp
`
`paragraphs [0005] and [0010]).
