`Notice of Pre-AIA or AIA Status
`
`1. The present application, filed on or after March 16, 2013, is being examined under the
`
`first inventor to file provisions of the AIA.
`
`Election/Restriction
`
`2. Applicant's election with traverse of Species A: Claims 1-7, 11-18, 20 in the reply filed on
`
`1/15/2020 is acknowledged. The traversal is on the ground(s) that: Species A , Species B and
`
`C belongs to unrelated concepts because Species A related to construct coils for inductive
`
`power system, While species B, C related to different numbers of rectifier connected to
`
`compensate work, they are unrelated concept and therefore the restriction is not proper. This is
`
`not found persuasive because Species A, B, C describes three kinds of configuration to couple
`
`between the transmitter and the receiver, Species A describes a coupling of the receiver and
`
`transmitter through DD-DD, DD-Q coil, Species B describes a coupling of the receiver and
`
`transmitter through DD-Q coil with a directly connected DD and Q coil connected to a single
`
`rectifier in the receiver, Species C describes a coupling of the receiver and the transmitter
`
`through DD_Q coil with a separately DD and Q coil connected to a separately rectifier . The
`
`requirement is still deemed proper and is therefore made FINAL.
`
`Drawings
`
`3. The drawings are objected to under 37 CFR 1.83(a). The drawings must show every feature
`
`of the invention specified in the claims. Therefore, the limitation “the two co-planar coils are
`
`connected such that the apertures form poles of opposite polarity,” in claim 3,
`
`the limitation “
`
`the fourth and fifth coils overlapping the two co-planar coils and being rotated with respect to
`
`them” in claim 11, line 7-8, claim 12, line 7-8,
`
`the limitation “a density of the windings in the
`
`inner winding portion is more than the outer windings” in claim 14, must be shown or the
`
`feature(s) canceled from the claim(s). No new matter should be entered.
`

`
`Page 3
`
`Corrected drawing sheets in compliance with 37 CFR 1.121 (d) are required in reply to
`
`the Office action to avoid abandonment of the application. Any amended replacement drawing
`
`sheet should include all of the figures appearing on the immediate prior version of the sheet,
`
`even if only one figure is being amended. The figure or figure number of an amended drawing
`
`should not be labeled as “amended.” If a drawing figure is to be canceled, the appropriate figure
`
`must be removed from the replacement sheet, and where necessary, the remaining figures
`
`must be renumbered and appropriate changes made to the brief description of the several views
`
`of the drawings for consistency. Additional replacement sheets may be necessary to show the
`
`renumbering of the remaining figures. Each drawing sheet submitted after the filing date of an
`
`application must be labeled in the top margin as either “Replacement Sheet” or “New Sheet”
`
`pursuant to 37 CFR 1.1 21 (d).
`
`If the changes are not accepted by the examiner, the applicant
`
`will be notified and informed of any required corrective action in the next Office action. The
`
`objection to the drawings will not be held in abeyance.

`Claim Rejections - 35 USC§ 103
`
`

`

`Application/Control Number: 15/896,951
`Art Unit: 2836
`
`Page 10
`
`The following is a quotation of 35 U.S.C. 103 which forms the basis for all
`
`obviousness rejections set forth in this Office action:
`
`A patent for aclaimed invention may not be obtained, notwithstanding that the claimed invention is not
`identically disclosed as set forth in section 102 of this title, if the differences between the claimed invention
`and the prior art are such that the claimed invention as awhole would have been obvious before the
`effective filing date of the claimed invention to a person having ordinary skill in the art to which the claimed
`invention pertains. Patentability shall not be negated by the manner in which the invention was made.
`
`8. Claim 2 is rejected under 35 U.S.C. 103 as being unpatentable over Covic (US
`
`20150170832)
`
`With regard to claim 2, Covic teaches all the limitations of claim 1, Covic further
`
`teaches aspect ratio of the defined shape 1.87:1 ([0124] The (DD) pads measure 0.77 m by
`
`0.41 m).
`
`Covic discloses the claimed invention to one of ordinary skill in the art before the
`
`effective filing date of the claimed invention except for the aspect ratio of the defined shape to
`
`be between 08:1 and 1.2 :1 It would have been obvious to one of ordinary skill in the art at the
`
`time the invention was made to modify the aspect ratio of the defined shape from 1.87:1 to a
`
`ratio between 08:1 and 12:1 to satisfy the user’s specific requirement and improve the user’s
`
`experience. Further, it has been held that where the general conditions of a claim are disclosed
`
`in the prior art, discovering the optimum or working ranges involves only routine skill in the
`
`art.

`9. Claim 7 is rejected under 35 U.S.C. 103 as being unpatentable over Widmer1 (US
`
`20140125140) in view of Alicot (US 6,020,856)
`
`With regard to ctaim 7, Widmer1 teaches alt the limitations of claim 5, but not the third
`
`coil is driven at a 90 degree phase difference compared to the two co-planar coils.
`
`However, Alicot teaches the third coil is driven at a 90 degree phase difference
`
`compared to the two co-planar coils ( see abstract, the 0° and 180° loops may also be arranged
`
`in a common plane that is close to and parallel with another plane in which the 90° and 270°

`loops are arranged. The 180 degree loop has 90 degree phase difference compared with the 90
`
`degree and 270 degree loop).
`
`Therefere, it wenid have been ebvieus te one ei ordinary ehiii in the art before the
`
`effective fiiing date at the eiaimed invention to mediiy the device of Widmeri, to configure the
`
`third coil to be driven at a 90 degree phase difference compared to the two co-planar coils, as
`
`taught by Aiieet,
`
`in order te eveniyi distribute the EM tieid surrounding the antenna, imprnve the
`
`newer distributien efficiency and pew-er transmission efficiency between the transmieeien and
`
`receiving system .
`
`10. Claims 11,12 are rejected under 35 U.S.C. 103 as being unpatentable over Widmer (US
`
`20150170833) in view of Boys (us 2017/0222490) and Fujita (US6441615B1).
`
`With regard to claim 11, Widmer teaches all the limitations of claim 1, but not fourth
`
`and fifth co-planar and adjacent coils defining respective apertures and having a second
`
`magnetically permeable core located to at least partially overlap both apertures of the fourth and
`
`fifth coils; the fourth and fifth co-planar coils together defining a second shape which is
`
`substantially equally extended in orthogonal directions; the fourth and fifth coils overlapping the
`
`two co-planar coils and being rotated with respect to them.
`
`However, Boys teaches fourth and fifth co-planar ( e.g., 120, 121, Fig. 27) and adjacent
`
`coils defining respective apertures ( see aperture of 120 and 121, Fig. 27) and having a second
`
`magnetically permeable core ( Widmer teaches about a magnetically permeable core
`
`underneath two dd coil as discussed above, here [0206] Boys teaches about a hybrid pad use
`
`small amount of ferrite under the center of pad to shape the field) located to at least partially
`
`overlap both apertures of the fourth and fifth coils( see aperture of 120 and 121, Fig. 27, see the
`
`design of Widmer in Fig. 158 and discussion of hybrid pad in [0206] of Boys);

`
`shape of 120, 121, Fig. 27) which is substantially equally extended in orthogonal directions( see
`
`Fig. 27).
`
`Therefore, it wouid have been obvious to one of ordinary shift in the art before the
`
`effective fiiirtg date of the ofaimed invention to modify the device of Widmer, to contigure fourth
`
`and fifth co-planar and adjacent coils defining respective apertures and having a second
`

`
`in order to use two
`
`set of power transfer co—piener ooiis to extend the range of power transmission and improve the
`
`efficiencyi of the power transfer.
`
`Further , Fujita teaches that the fourth and fifth coils overlapping the two co-planar coils
`
`and being rotated with respect to them ( the first and Second ladder coils 72, 74 are completely
`
`overlapping or aligned, col 4, line 60-65, Fig. 2A).
`
`Therefore, it wouid have been obvious to one of ordinary skiii in the art before the
`
`effective iiiing date of the cieimed invention to modify the device of Widmer and Boys, to
`
`configure the fourth and fifth ooiis to he overiepping the two oo—piener ooiis end being rotated
`
`with respect to them, as taught by Fujita, Because the overiapoing with adjacent coit eiiminates
`
`the coupiing between the ooiis, the rotation provides better magnetic fieid coverage and
`
`uniformity, and improve the power transform efficiency.
`
`With regard to claim 12, Widmer teaches all the limitations of claim 1, but not fourth
`
`and fifth overlapping coils arranged in parallel planes and adjacent a second magnetically
`
`permeable core, wherein the overlap of the fourth and fifth coils is arranged to minimise mutual
`
`coupling between the fourth and fifth coils; the fourth and fifth coils together defining a second

`shape which is substantially equally extended in orthogonal directions; the fourth and fifth coils
`

`
`However, Boys teaches fourth ( e.g., 20, Fig. 8) and fifth overlapping coils ( e.g., 21, Fig.
`
`8) arranged in parallel planes ( see 20 and 21 are parallel, Fig. 8) and adjacent a second
`
`magnetically permeable core( Widmer teaches about a magnetically permeable core
`
`underneath two dd coil as discussed above, here [0206] Boys teaches about a hybrid pad use
`
`small amount of ferrite under the center of pad to shape the field), wherein the overlap of the
`
`fourth (e.g., 20, Fig. 8) and fifth coils ( e.g.,21, Fig. 8)
`
`is arranged to minimise mutual coupling
`
`between the fourth and fifth coils ( see [0194], two coils 20 and 21 which are positioned relative
`
`to each other so that the magnetic coupling between them is substantially minimized) ;
`
`the fourth( e.g., 20, Fig. 8) and fifth coils( e.g.,21, Fig. 8)
`
`together defining a second shape (
`
`(the shape defining by the 20 and 21, Fig. 8) which is substantially equally extended in
`
`orthogonal directions ( see Fig. 8).
`
`Therefere, it would have been obvious te one of erdinery skill in the art before the

`which is substantially equally extended in orthogonal directions, as taught by Boys,
`
`in order to
`
`use two set of power transfer co-planar coils to extend the range of power transmission and
`
`improve the efficiency of the power transfer, further the overlapping of coils can reduce the
`
`mutual coupling between the fourth and fifth coils which enable independent operation of the
`
`coils while still making a field available at a sufficient distance from the pad for adequate power
`
`transfer to a secondary structure.
