`
`
`ORDER APPOINTING TECHNICAL ADVISOR
`
`The Court finds that the technology in the above-captioned case is exceptionally complex
`
`and warrants the appointment of a technical advisor. The Court has previously appointed a
`
`technical advisor or special master on related cases. See, e.g., ParkerVision, Inc. v. Intel Corp.,
`
`No. 6:20-cv-00108 at ECF No. 64, ParkerVision, Inc. v. Intel Corp., No. 6:20-cv-00562 at ECF
`
`No. 31, ParkerVision, Inc. v. Hisense Co., Ltd. et al., No. 6:20-cv-00870 at ECF No. at 41,
`
`ParkerVision, Inc. v. TCL Indus. Holdings Co., Ltd. et al., No. 6:20-cv-00945 at ECF No. at 39,
`
`ParkerVision, Inc. v. ZyXEL Commc’ns Corp., No. 6:20-cv-01010 at ECF No. at 23, and
`
`ParkerVision, Inc. v. LG Elecs., Inc., No. 6-21-cv-00520 at ECF No. 34.
`
`This case involves U.S. Patent No. 6,049,706, which is entitled “Integrated frequency
`
`translation and selectivity,” U.S. Patent No. 6,266,518, which is entitled “Method and system for

`
`down-converting electromagnetic signals by sampling and integrating over apertures,” U.S. Patent
`
`No. 7,292,835, which is entitled “Wireless and wired cable modem applications of universal
`
`frequency translation technology,” and U.S. Patent No. 8,660,513, which is entitled “Method and
`
`system for down-converting an electromagnetic signal, and transforms for same, and aperture
`
`relationship.” All patents relate to the field of frequency translation for electronic communication.
`
`See, e.g., ’706 Patent at Abstract.
`
`The ’706 Patent, which appears to be exemplary, is classified in the field of “Electric
`
`Communication Technique, Transmission,” which covers “the transmission of information-
`
`carrying signals, the transmission being independent of the nature of the information, and includes
`
`monitoring and testing arrangements and the suppression and limitation of noise and interference.”
`
`The specification describes that the claimed invention is “directed towards methods and
`
`apparatuses for frequency selectivity and frequency translation” and “operates to filter an input
`
`signal, and to down-convert the filtered input signal.” Id. at 3:26–27, 3:30–31.
`
`Full appreciation of the parties’ upcoming arguments requires a detailed understanding of
`
`electrical engineering.1 Accordingly, the Court hereby appoints Dr. Joshua J. Yi to serve as the
`
`Technical Advisor for the Court in this case. Given his background and qualifications, the Court
`
`is satisfied that Dr. Yi’s appointment pursuant to the terms of this Order would assist the Court in
`
`this case. Dr. Yi’s contact information is as follows:
`
`Dr. Joshua J. Yi
`13492 Research Blvd; Ste. 120 – #445
`Austin, TX 78750-2254
`E-mail: josh@joshuayipatentlaw.com
`
`The parties shall send courtesy copies of the following documents no later than one
`
`business day after the date of this order or after the last document in the following list is filed:

`If the document was filed with the Court, the copy must include the CM/ECF header.
`
`Dr. Yi will assist the Court with technical issues related to the claim construction process
`
`and advise the Court regarding preliminary and final claim constructions. Dr. Yi may also assist
`
`the Court in drafting a claim construction order.
`
`Finally, depending on the needs of the case, Dr. Yi may also assist the Court with motions
`
`for summary judgment, Daubert motions, trial preparation and rulings, post-trial motions, and any
`
`other Court task that requires an appreciation of the complex technology included in the asserted
`
