`I am writing in response to, “The Waterford Foundations”, opposition to my request to
`issue a copyright for the name. “Hope Makes a House Call”.
`
`The name, “Hope Makes a House Call”, was a concept idea that was conceived by me to
`raise funds for cancer research at Huntsman Cancer Institute, located in Salt Lake City,
`Utah. The name nor concept was borrowed or obtained from any other corporation or
`charitable organization.
`
`I am not an employee of a charitable foundation or of a professional fund raising group or
`of The Huntsman Cancer institute. I am a cancer survivor who credits his life to the
`
`treatment of my disease that I received at The Huntsman Cancer Hospital. After I
`recovered from 6 months of chemotherapy I decided to get involved in giving back to the
`organization that gave me hope and help them in furthering their cause in finding a cure
`for cancer.
`
`I am a Realtor by profession. The event was hosted on September 17, 2010, and was held
`at a private estate and sponsored by Prudential Utah Real Estate, for whom I work and
`Ken Garff automotive group which sells Jaguar and Mercedes Benz. The concept was to
`bring individuals of high wealth together at a private estate featuring beautiful original art
`and donated auction items, all combined to raise funds for cancer research at Huntsman
`Cancer Institute. The event was very successful, so I decided to ask for a trademark of the
`name so we could move forward in raising funds for Huntsman Cancer Institute without
`our name being borrowed or used by other entities.
`
`“Hope For a Cure”, is a registered trademark for Huntsman Cancer Institute that was
`given in 1996. All I did was expand on the word,”Hope”.
`
`Home of Hope is a charity sponsored by The Waterford Foundation which raises funds
`for various causes, none of which to my understanding involves raising money for cancer
`research or treatment.
`
`Both names include the word,”Hope”, which is inspiration for both causes. I believe their
`objection comes in the use of the words home and house. I understand, “The Waterford

`Foundation’s”, use of the word,” Home” refers to a physical structure where they provide
`security and comfort to those in need.
`
`Our use of the word, “House”, does not refer to any one particular structure, as out event
`will be moved from place to place and only refers to the real estate reference of a house.
`
`I have had several discussions with The Waterford Foundations attorney Marcus Diablo
`and a couple with the foundations director to try and resolve this issue amicably. Both are
`great to talk to. The director indicated that he did not have a strong issue personally about
`my request however his attorney had some concerns in the remote possibility that if an
`event for both organization was held in the same city at the same time would be people
`be confused about which event to attend or donate too.
`
`Any event we plan or do will have the, “Huntsman Cancer Institute’s Logo” and contact
`information on all printed material, invitations, programs, etc. I am enclosing an
`invitation and program from the event held last September for you to see what I am
`referring too.
`
`I request that you do grant me the copyright and trademark for, “Hope Makes a House
`Call”, and let both organizations go forward in their individual pursuits of humanitarian
`objectives in raising funds to support both of their noteworthy causes.
`
`If you do not grant I am not going to spend hard earned funds raised for Huntsman
`Cancer Institute to legally pursue it, nor my personal funds.
`
