`Extensive expertise, practical experience and research accomplishment in human factors engineering,
`human hearing, auditory displays and warnings, earphone and ‘hearables’ technology, auditory situation
`awareness, noise measurement, hearing protection, and the solution of ergonomics and auditory
`problems in products, industry and military applications. Experienced in product design, patent
`development, teaching and professional presentations, and legal expert witness service for litigation in
`intellectual property, products/premises liability. Procured and completed over 115 research and 150
`consulting projects for major branches of the U.S. military, government agencies, industries, and

`1983-present: Founded and developed the Auditory Systems Laboratory at Virginia
`Tech. Versatile acoustic/psychoacoustic research facility for research on auditory
`situation awareness, signal design and masking, speech communications, hearing
`protection testing and design, military product performance and aural nondetectability,
`and auditory displays. Anechoic, hemi-anechoic, reverberant, and
`in-field

`environments to support long range detection/identification/localization experiments.
`Lab facilities meet ANSI S3.19-1974, ANSI S12.6-2008, ANSI S12.42-2010 (most
`aspects), and ISO standards for hearing protector evaluation;

`2011-20 Laboratory Development additions:

`1) Implemented new in-lab test systems (PASAT, DRILCOM) and an in-field (at
`Pulaski County, VA farm) research facility and capability for realistic Auditory
`Situational Awareness experimentation in conjunction with military funding and
`military device manufacturer funding.
`2) Developed new in-lab instrumentation and low noise floor in anechoic chamber to
`meet Aural Nondetectability test requirements for MIL-STD-1474D with military
`device manufacturer funding.
`3) Developed, on Department of Defense contract, an objective, efficient Auditory
`Situation Awareness test battery for advanced hearing protectors and tactical
`communications and protective systems (TCAPS) worn by soldiers and certain
`workers, entitled:

`communication). This test battery has been tested and validated, and is
`implemented in a special hemi-anechoic room within the Virginia Tech Auditory
`Systems Laboratory. It was recognized in February 2016 with the Safe-in-Sound
