`The following is an examiner’s statement of reasonsfor allowance:
`
`Noneof the prior art taught or suggested a liquid crystal device with the claimed
`
`layer structure where a transparent reference electrode substantially covers at least one
`
`of the pixel regions, andthe relative size relations of each of the pixel, reference and
`
`counter electrodes. In Noh, the reference electrodeis only a frame, so does not
`
`substantially cover a pixel region. Also please note that by definition the counter
`
`electrode and pixel electrode are the electrodes which control the liquid crystal.
