`ABSTRACT
`
`A wireless network may provide system information by either
`a fixed periodic broadcast or broad-beam transmission or in
`response to a request by a user equipment (UE). The wireless
`network may broadcast ( or broad-beam transmit) a signal that
`indicates to the UEs within a cell or zone coverage area that
`system information is to be transmitted on a fixed periodic
`schedule or in respoose to a request sent by one or more UEs.

`1. Field of the Disclosure
`[0003] The present disclosure, for example, relates to wire(cid:173)
`less communication systems, and more particularly to the
`transmission of on-demand system information in a wireless
`communication system, such as a wireless communication
`system having a user equipment (UE)-centric network.
`[0004] 2. Description of Related Art
`[0005] Wireless communication systems are widely
`deployed to provide various types of communication content
`such as voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, and
`so on. These systems may be multiple-access systems capable
`of supporting communication with multiple users by sharing
`the available system resources ( e.g., time, frequency, and
`power). Examples of such multiple-access systems include
`code-division multiple access (CDMA) systems, time-divi(cid:173)
`sion multiple access (TDMA) systems, frequency-division
`multiple access (FDMA) systems, and orthogonal frequency(cid:173)
`division multiple access (OFDMA) systems.
`[0006] By way of example, a wireless multiple-access com(cid:173)
`munication system may include a number of base stations,
`each simultaneously supporting communication for multiple
`communication devices, otherwise known as user equip(cid:173)
`ments (UEs ). A base station may communicate with UEs on
`downlink channels ( e.g., for transmissions from a base station
`to a UE) and uplink channels ( e.g., for transmissions from a
`UE to a base station).

`In a wireless multiple-access communication sys(cid:173)
`tem, each cell of a network may broadcast synchronization
`signals and system information for UEs to discover. Upon
`discovering the synchronization signals and system informa(cid:173)
`tion broadcast by a particular cell, a UE may perform an initial
`access procedure to access the network via the cell. The cell
`via which the UE accesses the network may become the UE' s
`serving cell. As the UE moves within the network, the UE
`may discover other cells (e.g., neighboring cells) and deter(cid:173)
`mine whether a handover of the UE to a neighboring cell or a
`cell reselection is warranted.
`
`SUMMARY
`
`[0008] The present disclosure generally relates to wireless
`communication systems, and more particularly to the trans(cid:173)
`mission of on-demand system information in a wireless com(cid:173)
`munication system, such as a wireless communication system
`having a user equipment (UE)-centric network. Wireless
`communication systems such as Long Term Evolution (LTE)
`communication systems or LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) commu(cid:173)
`nication systems have a network-centric network. In a wire(cid:173)
`less communication system having a network-centric net(cid:173)
`work, the network perpetually broadcasts synchronization
`signals and system information for UEs to discover. Upon
`discovering the synchronization signals and system informa-
`
`tion broadcast by a particular cell, a UE may perform an initial
`access procedure to access the network via the cell. Once
`connected to the network, the UE may discover other cells as
`it moves within the network. The other cells may broadcast
`different synchronization signals or system information. A
`wireless communication system having a network-centric
`network therefore entails various signal broadcasts, which
`broadcasts consume power and may or may not be received or
`used by some or all of a cell's UEs.
