`Brian Seal is a Shareholder practicing in Butzel Long’s Washington D.C.
`office. He litigates complex cases, including highstakes patent litigation
`and business disputes, before federal appellate courts and federal
`district courts across the country. He also has extensive experience at
`the U.S. International Trade Commission, where he recently obtained a
`favorable decision for a client in a groundbreaking expedited
`proceeding. He has broad experience in all aspects of litigation,
`including jury trials, bench trials and appeals.

`Brian’s patent litigation experience encompasses a wide range of
`technologies and products, with a focus on telecommunications and
`electronics.

`Upon graduating from law school, Brian served as a judicial law clerk at
`the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, where he
`drafted bench memoranda and panel opinions in cases involving
`patents, trademarks and international trade.

`Tabibian v. Esfahani, et al. (D. Md. 2016): Lead counsel for plaintiff
`Payam “Peter” Tabibian against his former business partners in a
`dispute over ownership of the Z-Burger restaurant chain and associated
`intellectual property; successfully obtained preliminary injunction ruling
`resulting in favorable settlement confirming Mr. Tabibian’s sole
`ownership of the Z-Burger business and all intellectual property,
`including trademarks and copyrights.
`
`Southco, Inc. v. Fivetech Technology, Inc. (Fed. Cir. 2014): Represented
`appellant Southco before the Federal Circuit in a case involving
`questions of claim construction, infringement under the doctrine of
`equivalents and trademark use in commerce, resulting in remand to
`the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
`
`Bluebonnet Telecommunications, LLC v. Sonim Technologies, Inc. (E.D.
`Tex. 2014): Lead counsel for defendant Sonim Technologies in a patent
`case involving smartphone features; succeeded in having all claims
`dismissed.
`
`In re Certain Laminated Cardboard Products (U.S. Int’l Trade Comm’n
`2013): Lead counsel for respondent Freixenet USA, Inc. in a Section 337
`patent infringement action; obtained a favorable ruling under the ITC’s
`pilot program for early determination.
`
`MShift, Inc. v. Digital Insight Corp., et al. (N.D. Cal 2010; Fed. Cir. 2011):
`Represented defendant SK C&C Co., Ltd. in a patent dispute involving
`mobile banking technology; obtained summary judgment of
`noninfringement at the district court, which was upheld at the Federal
`Circuit.

`Shaun Gregory is an Associate practicing in Butzel Long’s Washington
`D.C. office. Mr. Gregory graduated from the University of Richmond
`School of Law and focuses his practice on patent prosecution and
`patent counseling for companies in the electronics and computer
`industries.
`
`Mr. Gregory has extensive experience with patent prosecution, opinion,
`and post-grant review work, freedom-to-operate, invalidity, licensing,
`and IP rights analysis. He also has experience in technology and IP-
`related transactions, negotiation and review including wired and
`wireless telecommunications management and infrastructure, power
`management, encryption, data storage, network and data security,
`mainframe environments, distributed processing, client/server software,
`data communications, lighting infrastructures, and autonomous
`vehicles.
`
`Prior to and during law school, Mr. Gregory served for five years as a
`patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in
`Technology Center 2400, where he examined hundreds of patent
`applications relating to computer security and cryptography.
`
`Before beginning his legal career, Mr. Gregory spent over 15 years in
`the telecommunications and wireless networking industries in increasing
`roles of responsibility. His practical technical experience includes
`implementing security and e-commerce solutions, developing web-
`based applications, and designing internet infrastructure and data
`centers.

`Mitch Zajac is an Associate and practices in Butzel Long’s Detroit office.
`Mr. Zajac concentrates his work in the areas of automotive, intellectual
`property, regulatory and emissions compliance, and sports and
`entertainment law. Mr. Zajac is also a registered patent attorney with
`the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
`
`Before joining Butzel Long, Mr. Zajac was an engineer at Fiat Chrysler
`Automobiles (FCA). While at FCA, he was an advocate for progress
`and change in a variety of functions:
`
`Powertrain and engine systems advanced research and
`development (focusing on fuel economy, thermal systems,
`greenhouse gas emissions, and HVAC systems);
`
`Design and development engineering (including customer
`sourcing, quality, and design);
`
`International program management (including responsibility for
`vehicle chief engineering, product planning and branding; two
`global manufacturing facilities, supply chain management and
`customs, vehicle safety certification, fuel economy and
`greenhouse gas certification, and emissions compliance);
`
`Project management (including cybersecurity, vehicle structures
`and dynamics, thermal systems, interior systems, and vehicle
`integration);
`
`Purchasing and supplier quality (including re-writing PPAP
`processes, and also experience with customer tooling quality
`and payment), and
`
`Vehicle safety and regulatory compliance (both safety, working
`directly with NHTSA, and emissions, working directly with
`EPA/CARB/DOJ with a focus on emissions.)
`
`Mr. Zajac is a graduate of the WMU-Cooley Law School (J.D., 2017) and
`Western Michigan University where he earned his Bachelors of Science
`in Mechanical Engineering and Bachelors of Arts in German from the
`WMU Lee Honors College (2012) and a Master of Science degree in
`Mechanical Engineering (2013), publishing two theses on automotive
`thermal systems. He was a Rhodes Scholar finalist in 2012; interned for
`Congressman Fred Upton; he was a four year starter on the Division 1
`football team at Western Michigan; an American Football Wuerful
`Award Nominee in 2011; a member of Tau Beta Pi and Phi Kappa Phi;
`3x member and TILA semi-finalist on the WMU-Cooley National Mock
`Trial Team; and 2017 Association of Corporate Counsel of Michigan
`Scholarship Recipient.
`
`Mr. Zajac also enjoyed many honors as an undergraduate, graduate,
`and law student including the following: Undergraduate, graduate,
`and law school Dean’s List; National Phi Kappa Phi Love of Learning
`award winner; Who’s Who Among American College Students; WMU
`CEAS Robert E. Boughner Outstanding Engineering Athlete Award
`Winner; National Engineers Week Award Winner (X2); Mid American
`Conference Scholar Athlete; WMU Top 10 Scholar Athlete; Academic
`All-Mid American Conference Selection (X2); Rothfuss German Award
`Winner; and WMU Outstanding Mathematics Award winner.
`
`Mr. Zajac is a strong advocate for continued education and public
`service. He is currently the President of the Association for Child
`Development, a non-profit facilitating millions of dollars in federal funds
`annually through the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program. He is
`also a high school football coach, an adjunct professor in engineering
`and project management at Trine University, and a member of the
`Western Michigan University Lee Honors College Dean’s Advisory Board.
`Mr. Zajac is also a member of the Michigan Chapter of the American
`Inns of Court and the Detroit Bar Association.
