`… can be disengaged in the case of a
`malfunction. In this case, the pedal is not
`released, or can no longer be repeatedly
`depressed (this only increases the length
`of braking
`time, and
`lengthens
`the
`braking distance), and instead, the pedal
`remains depressed until reaching the
`maximum possible braking effect.
`When the motor is shut off, the
`ignition cannot be left on, because this
`discharges the battery and damages the
`switching components in the ignition
`system circuitry.
`To ensure normal functioning of the
`lighting and signal system, the lamps
`listed in appendix 1 are to be used.
`To prevent damage to the generator
`rectifier:
`- when installing the battery in the
`motor vehicle, ensure that the conductors
`are connected in accordance with the
`polarities indicated on their pole shoes
`and battery
`terminals
`(the positive
`terminal is larger than the negative
`terminal). The battery should only be
`connected to the terminal “30” in the
`generator via the positive line (pole shoe
`“+”);
`- when charging the battery while it is
`in the vehicle with an external power
`supply, the battery must be disconnected
`from the generator;
`- never check the functionality of the
`generator by short-circuiting its terminal
`“30” against the ground, or terminal “67”
`(when checking “function formation”);
`to
`- do not allow
`the generator
`function if the battery is not connected to
`the generator terminal “30.”
`
`ignition coil without a series
`An
`resistor is installed in the vehicle. For this
`reason, its terminals may not be short-
`circuited to simplify leaving the motor
`running by means of the starting crank,
`because this results in damage to the
`spring for the moving distributor contact
`and malfunctioning of the contact part of
`the starting switch.
`To avoid shorting the fuse, and
`damaging the contacts in the voltage
`regulator:
`- do not check the functionality of the
`voltage regulator by short-circuiting its
`terminals “15” and “67”;
`- do not exchange the lines leading to
`terminals “67” and “15”;
`- do not exchange the line intended
`for connection to the terminal “67” on the
`generator with the line intended for
`connecting to the neutral connection on
`the generator (unmarked terminal);
`- do
`not
`connect
`interference
`suppressors of an arbitrary capacitance
`to the terminal “67.”
`If ice or snow buildup on the side
`windows prevents raising or lowering
`them, do not apply excessive force in
`attempting to turn the window crank, to
`avoid damaging
`the window raising
`mechanism.
`The trip recorder may not be reset
`while driving, because this will break it.
`The reliability of your vehicle depends
`substantially on following the operating
`instructions specified in the manual,
`periodic maintenance, and carrying out
`the technical maintenance in its entirety.

`The front-wheel drive, differential,
`and other modules and components in
`the motor vehicle VAZ-2121 and its
`modifications
`have
`a
`special
`construction. For this reason, it is
`recommended
`that
`the vehicle be
`serviced at a garage, the address of
`which is specified when you purchase the
`vehicle.
`
`As replacement parts, only those
`replacement
`parts
`provided
`by
`“Zaptschastexport” may be used. When
`purchasing
`replacement parts,
`their
`number in the catalog and the names of
`the parts are to be specified.

`- abbreviated
`name

`manufacturer
`- the three first letters in the next line
`indicate the geographic zone, country,
`and factory, respectively (X – Europe, T

`indicate the vehicle model; the following
`letter indicates the production year of the
`vehicle (C – 1982, D – 1983, E – 1984,
`etc.); the seven last numbers indicate the
`chassis number (corresponding to the
`vehicle body number for trucks);
`- officially acceptable total weight of

`- officially acceptable total weight of
`the vehicle with a trailer equipped with
`brakes;
`
`- officially acceptable front axle load;
`- officially acceptable rear axle load;
`- motor model and delivery number of
`the motor vehicle.
`The following data are listed in the
`table of international certified symbols:
`- motor vehicle model;
`- the letter “E” means that the motor
`vehicle has been inspected and satisfies
`the safety requirements specified by the
`United Nations Economic Commission
`for Europe (ECE);
`- the number next to the letter “E”
`indicates the country in which the motor
`vehicle was inspected with regard to
`satisfying the safety requirements (e.g. 2

`contains the official confirmations.
