`INTERNET BUSINESS NEWS-POINTCAST MAKES DEBUT ON INTERNET SCREENS TO ACCLAIM COPYRIGHT 1994-96 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
`
`A newfree personalised news and information service delivered over the Internet has been introduced by PointCast, backed by advertising. The system worksby collecting
`pre-configured information selections in the background and displaying them on the Microsoft Windows screen saver, allowing users to grab a quick update while they are on
`the phone or when they return back to their desks. There are six channels of information: news, companies, industries, weather, sports and lifestyles with information derived
`from sources including Reuters, S&P Comstock's stock ticker, SportsTicker, AccuWeather and Variety. PointCast Inc, presently a privately-held company, expects to have over
`1m users by the year-end. Christopher Hassett, chairman and CEO, said that while the mainstream newsservices should remain free, it is likely that a charged-for service may
`introduced to carry specialist newsservices.
