`Gordon Bell (Microsoft Research)
`Bio: Gordon Bell is a senior
`researcher at Microsoft Research.
`Gordon earned the moniker "father
`of the minicomputer" while serving
`as vice president of research and
`development for Digital Equipment
`Corporation, where he was
`responsible for the first mini and
`time-sharing computers and led the
`development of DEC's VAX. Gordon
`has been a professor at Carnegie
`Mellon, served as the first head of
`the NSF Computing Directorate, led
`the National Research Network
`panel that became the NII/GII, and
`is the author of books on computer
`technology and startups. He is a
`member of various professional
`organizations, including the National
`Academy of Engineering and the
`American Academy of Arts and
`Sciences, and received the 1991
`National Medal of Technology.
`Gordon was instrumental in
`founding the Computer History
`Museum, and is digitizing his own
`history as part of the MyLifeBits
`project.
