`
`REASONS FOR ALLOWANCE
`
`1.
`
`The following is an examiner's statement of reasons for allowance: Yanker
`
`(US Patent No. 5,075,673) teaches a system for enabling panning a viewport in a
`
`variable speed; Sugimoto et al (US Patent No. 5,526,023) teaches a pen based
`
`computer wherein the amount of scrolling is based on the distance that the penis
`
`traveled on the surface of the display; Tognazzini (US Patent No. 5,850,211)
`
`teaches a scrolling system wherein scrolling is controlled by the movement of the
`
`user's eye; Haynes (US Patent No. 5,864,330) teaches a scrolling system
`
`wherein the speed and direction of scrolling is based on the direction and
`
`distance of an icon moved; Takaike (US Patent No. 6,384,845) teaches a scroll
`
`box for displaying the size and position of the data displayed on the screen of a
`
`display device. However, the prior art of record fails to teach a touch screen for
`
`controlling scrolling wherein the initial scrolling direction and speed is based on
`
`the traveling direction and speed of the user's finger on the display surface, and
`
`wherein the system further automatically reduce the speed at a given rate as
`
`recited in the claims.
`
`Any comments considered necessary by applicant must be submitted no
`
`later than the payment of the issue fee and, to avoid processing delays, should
`
`preferably accompany the issue fee. Such submissions should be clearly labeled
`
`"Comments on Statement of Reasons for Allowance."
