`detected movement.

`Accordingly, it is a principal object of the
`invention to provide a device for detecting the movement of an
`object, such as a door or window, from a predetermined position.
`The predetermined position of the object can be any position, e.g.,
`partially open if the object is a door or window, from which it is
`desired to detect displacement of the object.
`It is a further object of the invention to provide
`an alarm system for initiating an alarm when movement of an object,
`such as a door or window, from a predetermined position is
`detected.

`BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

`For a further understanding of the invention, as
`well as its characterizing features, reference should now be made
`to the accompahying drawings wherein:
`FIG. 1 is a pictorial block diagram of the major
`components of the preferred embodiment of the present invention

`device of the present invention.

`FIG 6 is a schematic diagram of the magnetic sensor
`showing its interface with the transmitter circuit board.
`FIG. 7 shows the placement of the magnetic field
`detector on a sensor circuit board and its position in relation to
`the moveable magnets.

`DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
`
`Fig. 1 shows, in pictorial block diagram form, the major
`components of the movement detecting device and alarm system 10 of
`the present invention. (cid:9)
`The system is comprised of a movement
`detecting and signal transmitting means 20, a retractable wire 22,
`a receiver means 30 and a remote control means 40.
`The movement detecting and signal transmitting means 20
`detects movement of the object by means of retractable wire 22.
`Retractable wire 22 is in communication at one end with one or more
`movable magnets 54, preferably opposite pole magnets (shown in FIG.
`5) within movement detecting and signal transmitting means 20. The
`other end of retractable wire 22 is affixed to the object whose

`motion is to be sensed, e.g. a door or window. Also housed within
`movement detecting and signal transmitting means 20, as shown in
`Fig.2, is a transmitter circuit board 52 (best shown in Fig. 5) in
`electronic communication with a magnetic field sensor 56
`(specifications in Fig. 4) and signal transmitter circuitry. The
`signal transmitter circuitry can be any available transmitter
`configuration known in the art which is capable of transmitting a
`signal through retractable wire 22 and can be configured to fit on
`transmitter circuit board 52.
`When the object whose movement is to be detected moves in
`any direction retractable wire 22 either extends or retracts. When
`the object moves toward movement detecting and signal transmitting
`means 20, retractable wire 22 recoils toward movement detecting and
`signal transmitting means 20, and vice versa. As retractable wire
`22 moves, moveable magnets 54 rotate. Magnetic field sensor 56 is
`positioned in proximity to the moveable magnets 54 (as shown in
`Fig. 7), and detects the change in the magnetic field resulting
`from the motion of magnets 54. In response to the change in the
`magnetic field, the magnetic field sensor 56 outputs a signal to

`the transmitter circuit (shown in Fig. 6). (cid:9)
`circuit, in response to the signal from the magnetic field sensor,
`transmits a signal to Receiver 30. Retractable wire 22 serves as
`the transmit antenna for transmitting this signal.
`The transmitter circuit is preferably DC powered but any
`convenient power source can be utilized and these remain within the
`scope of the invention. (cid:9)
`Likewise, retractble wire 22 can be a
`length of wire, cable, or any other electrically conductive
`material.
`Receiver 30 receives the signal transmitted by the
`transmitter circuit. Receiver 30 can be any receiver known in the
`art capable of receiving the signal transmitted through retractable
`wire 22. In response to the transmitted signal, receiver 30

`initiates a local alarm which can be audible or visual. (cid:9)
`In
`addition, receiver 30 may initiate contact with police, medical,
`rescue or other emergency facilities or agencies. Receiver 30 can
`be AC powered and may be equipped with an on/off switch. Receiver
`need not be co located with transmitter 20 and can be positioned
`anywhere within reception distance of the transmitted signal.
`Remote control means 40 controls the operating state of
`receiver means 30. That is, remote control means 40 may be used to
`electronically enable or disable receiver means 30 such that the
`response of receiver 30 to the signal transmitted by retractable
`wire 22 can be controlled. Remote control means 40 preferably
`includes a panic button which, when depressed or otherwise enabled,
`transmits a signal which instantly activates the alarm function of
`receiver means 30.
`Fig.2 shows a side view of the major components of
`movement detecting and signal transmitting means 20 including:
`front panel 50, movable frame 62 including retractable wire channel
`64, movable magnets 54, transmitter circuit board 52, magnetic
`field sensor 56 for sensing the motion of movable magnets 54,
`retraction means 58 which is a spring in the preferred embodiment,
`fastening means 60, and rear panel 66.
`Movable frame 62 is preferably a circular support frame
`which is provided with a central opening 70 about which the
`circular support frame 62 rotates. One or more magnets 54, which
`may be opposite polarity magnets, are affixed to movable frame 62.
`Rear panel 66 is provided with a threaded opening 72.
`Fastening means 60 is inserted through central opening 70 and
`spring means 58, and is secured to rear panel 66 by insertion into
`threaded opening 72 (best shown in Fig 3).
`
`Fig 2A shows the preferred means of connecting the end of
`retractable wire 22 to movable frame 62. One end of retractable
`wire 22 is provided with a wire stopping means 23 for preventing

`the end of retractable wire 22 from escaping movable frame 62.
`Retractable wire 22 is threaded through a small opening in
`retractable wire channel 64 and wound around movable frame 62 while
`remaining within retractable wire channel 64. The other end of
`retractable wire 22 is affixed to the object whose movement is to
`be detected.
`Fig 2B shows three of the many possible means for
`affixing the other end of retractable wire 22 to the object whose
`movement is to be detected. Circular or semicircular rings, Velcro
`tabs or any other affixing means may be used to secure the end of
`retractable wire 22 to the object.
`Fig. 3 is an exploded view of the major components of the
`movement detecting and signal transmitting means 20 of Fig.2. Fig.
`3A is an enlarged view of the major components of signal
`transmitting means 20. Fig. aA also shows a spring retraction
`means 58 interposed between moveable frame 62 and rear panel 66.
`The spring means includes loops 68 and 69 at each end. Loop 68 is
`attached to pin 80 and loop 69 is attached to extension 82 of
`moveable frame 62.
`
`Fastening means 60, which can be a screw, is inserted
`through loop 69.
`

`Fig. 4 is a specification sheet for magnetic field sensor
`56. Sensor 56 may be any commercially available magnetic field
`sensor such as KMZ10B Magnetic field sensor made by Philips
`Semiconductors. Magnetic sensor 56 may be mounted anywhere within
`movement detecting and signal transmitting means 20 so as to be in
`close enough proximity to magnets 54 to sense the change in
`magnetic field resulting from their movement. When magnetic sensor
`56 senses movement of magnets 54, sensor 56 enables power to
`transmitter circuit board 52 as shown in Fig.6.
`Fig. 5 shows transmitter circuit board 52 in relation to
`moveable frame 62, spring retraction means 58, and moveable magnets

`The very basic of principles is described by the diagram below:

`The transmitter is DC powered and has a recoiling line that rotates a set of
`opposite pole magnets past a magnetic sensor. As the line recoils toward the
`transmitter the magnets rotate counter clockwise, and vise versa. The magnetic sensor-.
`recognizes the change in the magnetic field and relays a high signal to the transmitting./
`component which emits a radio frequency signal to the Receiver.

`Receiver
`The receiver is AC powered and senses the signal from the transmitter which
`relays to the speaker component to sound alarm state. The receiver has an on/off
`switch.

`Remote
`The remote unit is battery powered and may set the receiver to a stop alarm
`state or alarm state (panic). The first button sets the receiver to stop alarm state and
`the second button sets the receiver to an alarm state (panic).
