`[DETAIL EXPLANATION OF THE INVENTION]
`[0001]
`[FIELD OF TECHNOLOGY OF THE INVENTION]
`The present invention relates to a toner container for
`refilling toner into a developing apparatus of an image-
`forming device such as an electrophotographic copy
`machine, printer, or the like.
`[0002]
`[PRIOR ART]
`In image-forming devices such as copy machines that
`use electrophotography, an electrostatic latent image that is
`formed on a photosensitive body is caused to be visible
`through adhering toner thereto in a developing apparatus.
`Various types of toner containers are used to supply toner
`to such developing apparatuses. For example, the toner
`container 100 set forth in, for example, Japanese
`Unexamined Patent Application Publication H7-5759 and
`Japanese Unexamined Patent Application Publication H8-
`30082, as illustrated in FIG. 6, is made out of plastic and
`has a helical groove 101 on an outer peripheral portion
`thereof, has a cylindrical toner container main unit 103 that
`has a toner refilling opening 102 on one end portion thereof,
`and has an inner cap 104 that fits with the toner refilling
`
`opening 102. With this toner container 100, during
`transport and storage prior to installation in the developing
`apparatus of the image forming device, an inner cap 104 is
`fitted into the toner refilling opening 102, and, in this state,
`an outer cap 105 is attached by screwing into an outer
`peripheral portion of the toner refilling opening 102, so that
`the inner cap 104 will not come off, and so that toner that is
`stored in the toner container main unit 103 will not spill to
`the outside. When this toner container 100 is installed in a
`developing apparatus, the outer cap 105 is removed from
`the toner container main unit 103, and, in a state wherein
`the inner cap 104 is fitted into the toner refilling opening
`102, the toner container main unit 103 is installed in a
`prescribed position. When the toner container main unit
`103 is installed, then, as illustrated in Japanese
`Unexamined Patent Application Publication H8-30082, the
`inner cap 104 is removed automatically from the toner
`refilling opening 102 by an inner cap removing mechanism
`of the developing apparatus. In this state, the toner
`container main unit 103 is rotated to supply, from the toner
`refilling opening 102 to the developing apparatus, toner
`that is stored in the toner container main unit 103. In this
`way, the toner within the toner container main unit 103 is
`supplied to the developing apparatus while preventing
`clumping of the toner through stirring the toner, without the
`provision of an agitator for agitating and conveying, within
`the toner container main unit 103.
`[0003]
`When the depletion of the toner in the toner container
`main unit 103 is detected, the image-forming device
`produces an indicator to that effect. When returned to a
`position for removing the toner container main unit 103 by
`a user who has observed this indicator, the inner cap 104 is
`fitted automatically into the toner refilling opening 102, to
`seal the toner refilling opening 102. In this state, the toner
`container 100 is removed from the image forming device,
`and an outer cap 106 is attached to prevent spilling of any
`residual toner, and the toner container 100 is stored,
`transported, or recycled.
`[0004]
`[PROBLEM SOLVED BY THE PRESENT INVENTION]
`However, when the toner container main unit is installed
`in the developing apparatus and the inner cap is removed,
`toner from the hollow portion between the toner refilling
`opening of the toner container main unit and the inner cap
`is scattered to other than the developing apparatus, which
`may spill out or soil the interior of the machine or the hands
`of the user, and the like. Moreover, the inner cap is merely
`fitted loosely into the toner refilling opening in order to be
`installed/removed automatically in the toner refilling
`opening of the toner container main unit, and when the
`inner cap is removed when the toner container main unit is
`installed into, or removed from, the developing apparatus
`main unit, the toner spills from the toner container main
`unit, which may soil the surrounding environment, such as
`the interior of the machine, the floor, the room, the user's
`clothing, and the like. Moreover, when the toner container
`is removed from the developing apparatus after use, often
`the outer cap has been lost, so the toner container is stored
`or transported in a state wherein the outer cap is not
`attached. When stored or transported in a state wherein the
`outer cap is not attached, residual toner may spill from the

`
`gap of the inner cap, which may soil the surrounding
`environment such as the floor, the room, the clothing of the
`user, or the like. Moreover, if, for some reason, the inner
`cap comes out, then even more residual toner may spill,
`soiling the surrounding environment.
`[0005]
`The object of the present invention is to provide a toner
`container that is able to ameliorate these shortcomings, to
`thereby prevent toner spillage, to prevent soiling of the
`surrounding environment with toner, and to enable toner to
`be supplied to the developing apparatus through a simple
`structure and with stability.
`[0006]
`[MEANS FOR SOLVING THE PROBLEM]
`The toner container according to the present invention is
`a toner container for refilling toner into a developing
`apparatus of an electrophotographic image-forming device,
`comprising: a container main unit and an inner cap,
`wherein: the container main unit is formed into a
`cylindrical bag shape, and has a helical groove in an inner
`peripheral portion thereof, and has a sealing portion, for
`engaging with the inner cap, on an inner peripheral surface
`of the opening portion; and the inner cap has a cap portion
`and a shaft portion, wherein the shaft portion is formed in a
`cylindrical shape of a specific length on the same axis as
`the cap portion, where the outer peripheral surface fits with
`the sealing portion of the container main unit, and is
`inserted into an opening portion of the container main unit,
`and has a toner refilling opening in a round cylindrical
`surface.
`[0007]
`A rib for discharging toner may be provided on an inner
`peripheral surface of the shaft portion, which is formed in a
`cylindrical shape, of the inner cap. In this case, preferably a
`plurality of the inner cap toner refilling openings is
`provided in the circumferential direction.
`[0008]
`Another toner container according to the present
`invention is a toner container for refilling toner into a
`developing apparatus of an electrophotographic image-
`forming device, comprising: a main unit and an inner cap,
`wherein: the container main unit is formed in a round
`cylindrical bag shape, and has a helical groove in an inner
`peripheral portion thereof; and the inner cap has a cap
`portion and a bellows portion, wherein the bellows portion
`has a toner refilling opening in an inner peripheral surface
`thereof, and the tip end portion is secured in an opening
`portion of the container main unit. In this case as well, a
`plurality of toner refilling openings of the inner cap may be
`provided in the circumferential direction.
`[0009]
`[EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION]
`The toner container according to the present invention
`comprises a container main unit and an inner cap. The
`container main unit is formed into a round cylindrical bag
`shape, and comprises an opening portion at a shoulder
`portion corresponding to the bottom of the round
`cylindrical portion, provided with helical grooves in the
`inner and outer peripheral surfaces of the interior. There is
`a sealing portion that engages with the inner cap, on the
`inner peripheral surface of the opening portion. The inner
`cap comprises a cap portion and a shaft portion, where the
`
`cap portion is formed into a cylindrical shape that has a
`flange on one end portion thereof and is closed on the other
`end portion thereof, where the round cylindrical portion is
`inserted into the opening portion of the container main unit,
`and the opening portion is sealed by the round cylindrical
`portion and the flange. There is a protruding portion, for
`engaging with an inner cap opening/closing mechanism of
`the developing apparatus, in the center of the outside of the
`cap portion. The shaft portion is formed in a cylindrical
`shape with a specific length, and is provided, on the side of
`the cap portion that is opposite from the protruding portion,
`on the same axis as the round cylindrical portion, and the
`outer peripheral surface thereof fits with the sealing portion
`of the container main unit. There is a toner refilling
`opening of a specific size in this shaft portion.
`[0010]
`The container main unit of the toner container is filled
`with toner, and when developing apparatus is refilled with
`the toner from within the container main unit, the inner cap
`that is inserted from the shaft portion in the opening portion
`of the container main unit is pulled out a specific distance,
`so that the toner refilling opening of the shaft portion will
`be disposed to the outside of the opening portion, to fill
`toner into the container main unit, or to refill the
`developing apparatus with the toner within the container
`main unit, through the toner refilling opening. In this case,
`the inner cap shaft portion is closed through fitting into the
`sealing portion of the opening portion of the container main
`unit, thus preventing the toner that is filled, and the toner
`within the container main unit, from spilling from the
`opening portion. Moreover, when the container main unit
`has been filled with toner, or when the toner within the
`container main unit has run out, the opening portion of the
`inner cap is pressed in, sealing the opening portion of the
`container main unit with the round cylindrical portion and
`the flange of the cap portion. When the opening portion of
`the container main unit is sealed by this inner cap, the
`opening portion of the container main unit is sealed doubly
`by the shaft portion of the inner cap and the fitting portion
`of the sealing portion of the opening portion, and by the cap
`portion of the inner cap and the fitting portion of the
`opening portion, thus reliably preventing leakage of toner
`from the opening portion.
`[0011]
`[EMBODIMENTS]
`FIG. 1 and FIG. 2 illustrate one embodiment according
`to the present invention, where FIG. 1 is a perspective
`diagram illustrating a partially cut-away external view, and
`FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view. As illustrated in these
`figures, the toner container 1 comprises a container main
`unit 2 and an inner cap 3. The container main unit 2 is
`formed into a round cylindrical bag shape from a synthetic
`resin that has elasticity, such as a low-density polyethylene,
`or the like, and comprises a round cylindrical portion 4 that
`is provided with a helical groove 5 on the interior of the
`outer peripheral surface, and an opening portion 7 that is
`provided in the center of a shoulder portion 6
`corresponding to the bottom of the round cylindrical
`portion 4. An outer cap is screwed onto the outer peripheral
`surface of the opening portion 7, and the inner peripheral
`surface has a sealing portion 8 that engages with the inner
`cap 3. The inner cap 3 has a cap portion 9 and a shaft

`
`portion 10, and is formed from a synthetic resin that has
`flexibility and elasticity, such as a low-density polyethylene,
`or the like. The cap portion 9 is formed in a cylindrical
`shape, having a flange 11 on one end portion thereof and
`being closed on the other end portion thereof, where a
`round cylindrical portion 12 is inserted into the opening
`portion 7 of the container main unit 2 to seal the opening
`portion 7 with the round cylindrical portion 12 and the
`flange 11, to thereby prevent the toner within the container
`main unit 2 from spilling out. In the center portion of the
`outside of this cap portion 9, there is a protruding portion
`13 for engaging with the inner cap opening/closing
`mechanism of the developing apparatus. The shaft portion
`10 is formed in a cylindrical shape with a specific length,
`and is provided on the side of the cap portion 9 that is
`opposite from that of the protruding portion 13, on the
`same axis as the round cylindrical portion 12 of the cap
`portion 9, where the outer peripheral surface thereof fits
`with the sealing portion 8 of the container main unit 2. This
`shaft portion 10 has a toner refilling opening 14 of a
`specific size.
`[0012]
`The inner cap 3 that is inserted from the shaft portion 10
`into the opening portion 7 of the container main unit 2 of
`the toner container 1 that is structured as described above is
`pulled out by a specific distance so that the toner refilling
`opening 14 of the shaft portion 10 will be disposed to the
`outside of the opening portion 7, to fill toner into the
`container main unit 2 from the toner refilling opening 14.
`When the toner is filled into the container main unit 2 in
`this way, the shaft portion 10 of the inner cap 3 is closed by
`fitting with the sealing portion 8 of the opening portion 7 of
`the container main unit 2, making it possible to prevent
`spillage, from the opening portion 7, of the toner that is
`being filled. Once the toner has been filled into the
`container main unit 2, the inner cap 3 is pressed into the
`opening portion 7, to seal the opening portion 7 of the
`container main unit 2 by the round cylindrical portion 12
`and the flange 11 of the cap portion 9. When the opening
`portion 7 of the container main unit 2 is sealed by the inner
`cap 3, the shaft portion 10 of the inner cap 3 fits with the
`sealing portion 8 of the opening portion 7 to form a seal,
`making it possible to prevent spillage, from the opening
`portion 7 of the container main unit 2, of the toner that is
`filled into the container main unit 2. Moreover, when the
`inner cap 3 is inserted by being pressed into the opening
`portion 7 of the container main unit 2, the opening portion
`7 of the container main unit 2 is doubly sealed, by the shaft
`portion 10 of the inner cap 3 and the fitting portion of the
`sealing portion 8 of the opening portion 7 and by the cap
`portion 9 of the inner cap 3 and the fitting portion of the
`opening portion 7, thus making it possible to prevent
`reliably leakage of toner from the opening portion 7.
`[0013]
`During transport and storage of the toner container 1
`prior to installation into the developing apparatus of the
`image-forming device, the inner cap 3 will not come out
`because an outer cap is screwed onto the outer peripheral
`portion of the opening portion 7 in a state wherein the inner
`cap 3 is fitted into the opening portion 7 of the container
`main unit 2. When this toner container 1 is to be installed
`into the developing apparatus, the outer cap is removed
`
`from the opening portion 7 of the container main unit 2,
`and, in a state wherein the inner cap 3 is fitted into the
`opening portion 7, the container main unit 2 is installed into
`a prescribed position in the developing apparatus. When the
`container main unit 2 is installed in the developing
`apparatus, the inner cap 3 is pulled by a specific distance
`from the opening portion 7 by the inner cap
`opening/closing mechanism of the developing apparatus, so
`that the toner refilling opening 14 of the shaft portion 10
`will be disposed to the outside of the opening portion 7.
`When this inner cap 3 is pulled out from the opening
`portion 7, the shaft portion 10 of the inner cap 3 is closed
`through fitting with the sealing portion 8 of the opening
`portion 7, and even when the inner cap 3 is pulled out by
`the specific distance, still the shaft portion 10 of the inner
`cap 3 is closed through fitting with the sealing portion 8 of
`the opening portion 7, thus making it possible to prevent
`spillage, from the opening portion 7, of the toner that is
`filled into the container main unit 2, when the inner cap 3 is
`pulled out or when the toner is refilled into the developing
`apparatus through pulling out the inner cap 3. When, in this
`state, the container main unit 2 is rotated, the toner within
`the container main unit 2 is fed to the opening portion 7
`side by the helical groove 5, to be supplied to the
`developing apparatus from the toner refilling opening 14
`through the shaft portion 10, which is formed in a
`cylindrical shape, of the inner cap 3.
`[0014]
`When the toner within the container main unit 2 is
`refilled into the developing apparatus and it is detected that
`the toner has run out, then when returned to the position for
`removing the container main unit 2, the inner cap 3 is
`inserted automatically into the opening portion 7 of the
`container main unit 2, sealing the opening portion 7 of the
`container main unit 2 with the round cylindrical portion 12
`and the flange 11 of the cap portion 9 of the inner cap 3,
`thereby preventing spillage to the outside, from the opening
`portion 7, of the toner that remains within the container
`main unit 2.
`[0015]
`While the embodiment set forth above explains a case
`wherein the inner surface of the shaft portion 10, which is
`formed in a cylindrical shape, of the inner cap 3 is smooth,
`instead a helical protrusion 15 may be provided, on the
`inner surface of the shaft portion 10, in the same direction
`as the helical groove 5 of the container main unit 2, as
`illustrated in FIG. 3, so that, when the container main unit 2
`is rotated to refill the developing apparatus with toner, the
`inner cap 3 may be rotated along with the rotation of the
`container main unit 2. Rotating the container main unit 2
`and the inner cap 3 in this way enables the toner within the
`container main unit 2 to be refilled efficiently into the
`developing apparatus through the toner within the container
`main unit 2 being fed to the shaft portion 10 of the inner
`cap 3 by the helical groove 5, and the toner that has been
`fed to the shaft portion 10 being fed to the toner refilling
`opening 14 by the helical protrusion 15 of the shaft portion
`10. In this case, the provision of a plurality of toner
`refilling openings 14 in the shaft portion 10 of the inner cap
`3 enables refilling with toner multiple times with a single
`rotation of the inner cap 3, enabling an increase in the
`efficiency with which the toner is refilled.

`
`[0016]
`Moreover, as illustrated in FIG. 3, a plurality of ribs 16,
`having small heights and cross-sectional areas, may be
`provided around the entire circumference of the outer
`peripheral surface of the round cylindrical portion 12 of the
`cap portion 9 of the inner cap 3, so that the ribs 16, which
`are flexible and elastic, will be pressed and deformed when
`the cap portion 9 of the inner cap 3 is inserted into the
`opening portion 7 of the container main unit 2, to thereby
`prevent reliably leakage of toner from the opening portion
`7.
`[0017]
`While each of the embodiments described above were
`explanations of cases wherein the inner cap 3 is formed
`from a cap portion 9 and a shaft portion 10, and wherein
`the inner cap 3 is pulled out from, or inserted into, the
`opening portion 7 while the shaft portion 10 is moved along
`the sealing portion 8 of the opening portion 7 when filling
`toner into the container main unit 2 or when refilling the
`developing apparatus with the toner from within the
`container main unit 2, instead, as shown in the cross-
`sectional view in FIG. 4, the inner cap 3 may be formed
`from a cap portion 9 and a bellows portion
