`
`for voice-driven applications via the telephone. Across
`
`enterprises, telecommunications carriers and e-businesses,

`
`Unprecedented Accuracy and Performance:
`Wireless and Landline
`Nuance leads the industry with the largest number of deployed
`systems in more than 13 countries around the world. American
`Airlines, Charles Schwab, UPS, Bell Atlantic are just a few of our
`customers. And every Nuance system delivers unparalleled
`accuracy, often exceeding 96%. Nuance 7.0 further enhances
`recognition accuracy by addressing the unique needs of cell
`phone users. With groundbreaking enhancements to wireless
`and hands-free recognition, Nuance 7.0 delivers exceptionally
`high accuracy in noisy environments such as automobiles.
`
`Nuance 7.0 also handles very large vocabularies. Nuance
`systems have demonstrated the ability to support more than one
`hundred million names and business listings in an automated
`directory assistance application with very high accuracy.
`
`Carrier-grade Scalability and Reliability
`Capable of handling millions of calls per day, the Nuance server
`software is implemented utilizing a unique distributed architec-
`ture that supports simultaneous load balancing of speech
`recognition, natural language understanding, voice authentica-
`tion, and text-to-speech. This fault-tolerant architecture ensures
`optimal usage of every server CPU in the network thus
`minimizing the amount of hardware required, and the associated
`cost, for a given speech system.
`
`Extensive International Support
`Nuance 7.0 provides extensive international support for a total
`of 15 languages, including American English, Australian English,
`Brazilian Portuguese, Canadian French, Cantonese, Czech,
`Dutch, European French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin,
`Spanish, Swedish, and UK English. Nuance plans to support 20
`languages by the end of the year.
`
`Nuance 7.0 also breaks new ground with Dynamic Language
`Detection™. This capability enables users to choose their
`preferred language, and to be recognized in their language
`of choice anytime during a call. This is especially valuable
`for systems like those in French-speaking Canada.
`
`Nuance has more deployed systems with barge-in than any
`other speech vendor. Barge-in allows callers to interrupt voice
`prompts without waiting for the prompt to finish. Allowing for
`a more natural and rapid exchange between the caller and the
`voice-enabled system, barge-in is particularly efficient for
`frequent users who are familiar with the system.
`
`Secure V-Commerce
`Nuance 7.0 is integrated with Nuance Verifier 2.0.
`The combination of the two technologies - natural language
`speech recognition and voice authentication - ensures a level
`of user convenience and security that was previously unattain-
`able. Simultaneous recognition and authentication lowers costs
`and improves user satisfaction by shortening overall call
`durations, and reducing fraud. It can also eliminate the need
`for passwords and personal identification numbers.
`
`System Management Made Open and Easy
`To keep speech systems running at their best, Nuance 7.0
`provides carrier-grade system management tools and functional-
`ity. These include SNMP support for tools such as HP
`OpenView, IVR system admin consoles and other tools for
`persistent system monitoring and tracking from any machine
`on the network.
`On-the-fly functions, such as grammar "hot swaps," eliminate
`the need to shut down for system tuning and modifications.
`This provides for easier system development and 100%
`system uptime.
`
`Flexible Standards-based APIs
`Interfaces are available from Nuance and partners for all the
`major development languages including Java, ActiveX/COM, C,
`and C++. Moreover, building voice-driven applications is made
`easy with Nuance 7.0 and Nuance SpeechObjects.
`SpeechObjects are a set of Java-based reusable software
`components which can quickly be combined to make
`complete applications.
