`
`INTEL ANNOUNCES ACCELERATED GRAPIDCS PORT 1.0 SPECIFICATION
`
`Allows Graphics Hardware Vendors and System OEMs to Design for Next Generation PC Graphics
`
`FOLSOM, CALIF. - August 5, 1996-- Intel Corporation today announced the Accelerated Graphics Port (A.G.P.) interface
`1.0 specification. Available on the world wide web, the A.G.P. 1.0 specification consists of the necessary electrical and
`signal information that will enable graphics hardware developers and system OEMs to both design and use graphics
`controllers on the graphics port.
`
`"The A.G.P. interface lays a scalable foundation for next generation graphics quality and performance for Intel architecture
`PCs and workstations," says Mike Bailey, platform industry marketing manager, Intel Desktop Products Group.".ln addition
`to the increase price/performance in graphics, overall system performance will greatly benefit by offering a dedicated
`graphics port which frees up PCI bandwidth and provides greater concurrency."
`
`The A.G.P. design builds on the concept of PCI. It gives the graphics controller a high-bandwidth, low-latency connection to
`system memory through the chip set. It enables the dymanic use of main memory for 3D graphics structures like textures, z(cid:173)
`buffering and alpha blending.
`
`"Now that the 1.0 specification is available, we expect to see an even greater increase in the momentum of products being
`developed that take advantage of A.G.P.," says Bailey.
`
`The A.G.P. specification will be licensed on a royalty-free, reciprocal basis. Intel expects PCs enabled with A.G.P. will
`begin shipping to market in the second half of 1997.
`
`A.G.P. Implementors Forum
`In May, Intel established the Accelerated Graphics Port Implementors Forum for industry leaders to promote high(cid:173)
`performance next generation graphics for PCs.
`
`The A.G.P. 1.0 specification is available via Intel's world wide web site: http://www.intel.com and the AGP Implementors
`Forum at: http://www.tel<;port.com/-a~fxport .
`
`Intel, the world's largest chip maker, is also a leading manufacturer of personal computer, networking, and communications
`products. Through innovative technologies, Intel is committed to improving the Internet experience for PC consumers.
