`
`INTRODUCTION
`FLC 503/504 FLO-LINE® CLEANERS
`
`OVERVIEW
`This manual
`includes installation, operation, and maintenance information for the Derrick FLC
`503/504 Flo-Line0 Cleaners. The manual covers both the standard single machine (Figure 1013-
`1) and the dual machine (Figure 1013-2). The dual machine consists of two identical Flo-Line
`Cleaners fed by a common inlet feeder. Suitable notations and illustrations are used where
`appropriate to present the differences between the single and dual models.
`The Flo-Line Cleaners are dual-motor, high frequency, linear-motion vibrating screen machines
`designed for fine particle separation in the oil and gas drilling industry. The modular design of the
`equipment allows versatility in operation. All Derrick equipment is specially coated to meet the
`most demanding abrasive and corrosive applications. The final design of this equipment is the
`result of over 50 years experience in the mining, drilling and chemical industries.
`Several key design features combine to produce the high speed,
`fine particle separation
`attainable with the FLC 503/504 Flo-Line Cleaners. The vibrator motors are attached directly to
`the screen frame and positioned over the screening bed to maximize the G-forces transferred to
`the screen surfaces. Float mounts isolate the vibratory motion of the screen frame from the
`support structure. Screening beds are slightly crowned to allow proper tensioning of the patented
`screen surfaces. This method of screen tensioning improves screen performance and extends the
`life of the screen. The adjustable while drilling (AWD) mechanism is a manually operated jack
`screw that allows adjustment of the screen bed angle between -1& and +5&. This combination of
`features maximizes the fluid-handling and solids-removal capabilities of the machine.
`An optional weir-style feeder is available for the FLC 503/504 Flo-Line Cleaners. The Feeder
`allows the feed slurry to be evenly distributed across the screen bed.
`
`INTENDED EQUIPMENT USE
`The FLC 503/504 Flo-Line Cleaners and associated components are designed expressly for
`removal of drilling solids from drilling fluid. Derrick Corporation does not authorize any other use
`of this equipment.
`Persons transporting, installing, commissioning, operating or performing maintenance on this
`equipment are required to read and understand the instructions provided in this manual. One copy
`of this manual should be available and accessible where the equipment is located.
`To ensure the highest level of machine safety and performance, no additions and/or changes may
`be made to the equipment without the explicit written permission of Derrick Corporation. Genuine
`Derrick repair/replacement parts are required.
`Intended usage of equipment includes compliance with the operating, maintenance and safety
`instructions provided in this manual.

`UNDER-SCREEN TENSIONING ASSEMBLY
`
`GENERAL
`Proper screen functioning depends on tight retention and full contact with the screen bed and
`related components, i.e. side supports, cross supports, and channel protectors. The under-screen
`tensioning assembly is one of the screen tensioning systems installed on Derrick equipment to
`properly secure the screen panels. Consult the applicable drawings in Section 11 - Reference
`Drawings to determine the type of screen tensioning system and component part numbers on
`your machine.
`DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
`The under-screen tensioning assembly (see Figure 6003-1) is a two-part assembly consisting of
`fixed and adjustable fingers. Two under-screen tensioning assemblies are required per screen
`panel. The assemblies are mounted on the interior walls of the screen frame, positioned directly
`below the screen bed. The fixed side has a series of upward-facing vertical fingers that retain the
`screen panel against interior wall. The tensioning side has a series of movable, spring-loaded,
`upward-facing vertical fingers that are operated by a tensioning nut located outside the screen
`frame. The movable fingers are installed on the interior wall of the screen frame, directly opposite
`and aligned with the fingers on the fixed side.

`
`DESCRIPTION (CONTINUED)
`Flo-Line® Cleaners equipped with under-screen tensioning assemblies are identified as either
`right- or left-hand units, which designates the tensioning side of the machine. This arrangement
`allows an operator to work from one side of the machine to install and remove screen panels. To
`install a screen panel, one side is placed onto the vertical fingers on the fixed side of the screen
`frame, allowing the fingers to engage the edge from below the panel. The opposite side is then
`lowered onto the screen frame bed, allowing the spring-loaded vertical fingers on the tensioning
`side (Figure 6003-2) to engage the panel
`from the underside. Rotating the tensioning nut
`clockwise retracts the spring-loaded vertical fingers on the tensioning side of the screen frame to
`tension the screen panel on the screen frame. Both tensioning nuts on the screen panel require
`approximately 180° of rotation to transition from the clamp (full clockwise) position to the release
`(full counterclockwise) position. The distance the tensioning fingers retract is adjustable, and,
`consequently the amount of tension applied, is regulated by the adjusting nut setting.
`The distance between the fixed and movable fingers is factory set with the tensioning nut in the
`full clockwise (clamp) position. This distance can be increased by rotating the adjustment nut
`clockwise and can be decreased by rotating the adjustment nut counterclockwise (unclamp).

`TOOLS REQUIRED
`A double-ended combination wrench (Figure 6003-3) is available for use with the under-screen
`tensioning assembly. The offset-socket portion of the tool is used to rotate the tensioning nut. The
`hook at the handle end of the tool is used for placement and removal of the screen panel on the
`screen bed. The long handle of the tool allows the operator to easily reach the opposite side of
`the screen panel.

`Tensioning Side (Continued)
`
`20 - Install second
`tensioning assembly, and
`then check for required
`spacing of 40-1/16” (1018
`mm) between fixed and
`adjustable fingers as
`described in the following
`procedure.
`
`19 - Inspect stringer adjacent to
`fingers for distortion, correct as
`necessary, and then reinstall
`stringer protector.
`
`18 - Remove wood wedge from
`screen bed; adjusting nut
`should drop into hex recess of
`cam housing. If not, turn
`adjusting nut slightly clockwise
`(less than 30°) until it drops
`into place.
`TENSIONING SIDE FINE ADJUSTMENT
`Following replacement of parts on the tensioning system, the space between the fixed and
`adjustable fingers must be checked and adjusted if required. To ensure adequate panel tension
`and ease of panel installation and removal, this dimension must be exactly 40-1/16” (1018 mm)
`when tension is applied. To check and adjust the spacing between fingers, proceed as follows:
`1. Using combination tool, turn tensioning nut fully clockwise to 180° position.
`2. Hook end of measuring tape on middle finger of fixed side (Figure 6003-4), and measure
`across to middle finger of adjustable side. Adjustment is correct if distance is exactly 40-1/16”
`(1018 mm). If incorrect, release tension and proceed to step 3.
`3. Using extraction tool (refer to paragraph below), draw adjusting nut out of cam housing and
`rotate nut slightly clockwise to increase space or counter-clockwise to reduce space. Orient
`adjusting nut flats to coincide with internal flats of tensioning nut, release adjusting nut by
`backing off jackscrew, and remove extraction tool.
`4. Re-check dimension as described in step 2.
`5. Repeat procedure if necessary, until correct distance between fingers is obtained.

`
`Extraction Tool Operation
`The extraction tool provided with the machine is used to withdraw the adjusting nut from the
`tensioning nut in the cam housing to permit tension adjustment. To use the extraction tool,
`proceed as follows:
`1. Remove screen panel.
`2. Thread extraction tool onto exposed threads of adjustment
`stud until bottomed against adjusting nut.
`3. Turn jackscrew clockwise to draw adjusting nut out of
`tensioning nut recess.
`5. Turn adjusting nut clockwise to increase tension or
`counter-clockwise to reduce tension.
`6. After completing adjustment, turn adjusting nut slightly to
`align flats and back off jackscrew to allow adjusting nut
`return into tensioning nut recess.
`
`TENSION ADJUSTMENT
`is characterized by a screen panel that is stretched taut
`Proper tensioning of a screen panel
`(tensioned) so the underside of the panel is in full contact with the screen bed components (side
`supports, cross supports and channel protectors).
`Adjusting Tension
`Tension should be adjusted only upon installation and normally should not require re-adjustment.
`However, in rugged environments wear of the fingers may gradually reduce tension (Figure 6003-
`5) and require readjustment of tension.
`When a screen panel flutters during operation, the wear pattern on the fingers becomes worse. If
`either the fixed-side or tensioning-side fingers exhibit this type of wear pattern they must be
`replaced in accordance with the preceding installation procedures.

`Clamping and Releasing Screen Panels
`WARNING! THE PROPER CLAMPING AND RELEASING SEQUENCE MUIST BE
`FOLLOWED TO PREVENT DAMAGE AND ENSURE MAXIMUM LIFE OF THE
`SCREEN PANELS AND TENSIONING FINGERS.
`
`A
`
`Each panel is clamped by two Ramp-Lok tensioners. For a three-panel machine, therefore, a total
`of six tensioners are installed in the screen frame (Figure 6003-5). To ensure that the screen
`panels are clamped properly and in full contact with the screen bed, tension must be applied in
`two stages. Following is the tensioning sequence for one screen panel. The tensioning procedure
`must be repeated for each successive screen panel. Clamping is performed as follows:
`1. Using combination tool, rotate Ramp-Lok 1 90° clockwise (Figure 6003-6).
`2. Move the combination tool to Ramp-Lok 2, and rotate 180° clockwise.
`3. Return the combination tool to Ramp-Lok 1, and complete the screen panel tensioning by
`rotating Ramp-Lok 1 an additional 90° for a total of 180°.
`
`Note! Full tensioning requires both Ramp-Loks to be rotated 180° clockwise.
`The staged tensioning ensures full contact with the screen bed and avoids
`rippling.
`
`4. Repeat procedure for remaining screen panel Ramp-Loks.
`5. To release tension, reverse sequence as shown in Figure 6003-6.
