`
`The Polaroid
`Security Card.
`An unalterable
`success story.
`
`It was a breakthrough in com-
`posite card construction when
`we first engineered it, and it
`still is. The proprietary Polaroid
`Security Card, produced by our
`central issue systems, is vir-
`tually indestructible and unal-
`terable. That’s because card
`layers are bonded and fused at
`high temperatures and high
`pressures. Security overlami-
`nates protect core data printing
`and inner-surface security fea-
`tures from abrasion and dam-
`age. And any attempt to
`remove them destroys the
`card. The use of polyester is
`also a plus, creating a far more
`durable card than vinyl or vinyl
`composite constructions.
`Not only enduring, but
`easy to read.
`Our card core of polyolefin is
`a dimensionally stable, micro-
`porous material. It bonds beau-
`tifully with toners, inks, adhe-
`sives and laminating films. This
`enhances secure construction
`and also serves as a basis for
`high-quality printing. Features
`can be pre-printed at high
`resolution. Variable data is
`
`printed at 600 dpi on the back
`of a card in black and white and
`at 400 dpi on the front in color.
`This compares to the highest
`resolution currently afforded by
`thermal diffusion printers using
`PVC of 300 dpi.
`
`Polaroid’s card construc-
`tion means stronger layers
`of security.
`The final laminated card dia-
`grammed below is ISO 7810
`compliant ( 30 mil+- 10%).
`
`Independent testing has shown
`that it complies with all card
`material requirements, card dis-
`tortion, warpage, straightness,
`edge burrs and corner radii of
`the ISO 7810 standard.

`
`Microprinting. Used on
`currency, the resolution
`required to create this printing
`on the base material is far
`beyond that of any known pho-
`tocopier. Often combined with
`misspelled words, this feature
`also prevents misuse of base
`material. Can be read with a
`small (10) power magnifier.
`Split Fountain. Use of a
`color degrade that can’t be
`color copied.
`
`We have a multitude of
`ways to make you secure.
`Polaroid offers more than ID
`cards. We’re world leaders in
`providing complete security
`solutions, including the most
`sophisticated biometrics tech-
`nology available. Find out more
`and you’ll be less vulnerable
`to fraud.
`
`Signature Area. Signature
`is captured electronically and
`printed digitally.
`Overlapping Images.
`Prevents tampering or image
`substitution.
`Ghost Image. A faint photo
`image covers printed data,
`making it virtually impossible
`to alter. Requires no special
`equipment for verification.
`PolaSecure.TM Images or text
`are printed on a card’s inner
`laminate with gold or silver
`optically variable ink. This print-
`ing appears and disappears
`with the angle of viewing.
`Can’t be photocopied. Can’t
`be altered without destroying
`card. Requires no special equip-
`ment for verification.
`PolaDual.TM Two-color optical
`printing causes an image or
`text to shift from one color to
`another with the viewing angle.
`Feature is destroyed with tam-
`pering. Can’t be color copied.
`PolaGlow.TM Incorporates
`both visible and ultraviolet print-
`ing of a pattern or logo on the
`inner surface of the laminate.
`Can’t be reproduced with
`photography or copying.
`PolaPrime UV.TM Multi-color
`images made from red, green
`and blue ultraviolet ink are visi-
`ble only when viewed under an
`ultraviolet light source.
`Ultraviolet Ink. Images print-
`ed in UV ink can be used on
`both the front and back of the
`laminate and are visible only
`under an ultraviolet light
`source. Alteration destroys
`feature. Can’t be photocopied.
`
`Pre-Printed Core
`Materials. Text or graphics in
`a variety of colors can be added
`to the front or back of the core
`card material.
`Fine-Line Printing.
`A pattern of fine lines, similar
`to those found on currency, can
`be placed on documents and
`photo backgrounds. Can thwart
`attempts at photocopying.
`1-D and 2-D Bar Codes.
`Allow storing of data on cards.
`1-D conforms to AAMVA stan-
`dard. 2-D conforms to AAMVA
`and PDF417 standards.
`Magnetic Stripe. Can be
`encoded with information. Avail-
`able in standard or high coercivi-
`ty. Conforms to AAMVA, ANSI
`and ISO standards.
`Stored Biometrics.
`Information like fingerprint
`data is stored on a card, then
`electronically retrieved for
`comparison against a live
`finger scan.
`Writeable Back. Allows an ID
`to accept ball-point pen ink.
`Unique or Sequential
`Numbering. Can be added for
`authentication and to keep track
`of production materials.
`Security Indicia. Words or
`symbols concealed on a docu-
`ment appear only when a spe-
`cially grooved plastic viewer is
`moved across it. Provides
`inexpensive authentication.
`Prevents fraudulent use of base
`material.
`Altered (or Modified)
`Fonts. Slight modifications of
`text characters are obvious only
`to those who are trained to
`look for them.
