`
`How to Use the Cumulative Index
`
`This Cumulative Index ‘contains a listing of all technical papers published by the Society of Automo-
`tive Engineers during the period 1965-1978. Please note that each paper is identified by a 6 digit number.
`Any requests for information regarding SAE papers should reference that “paper number". The first two
`digits of the number (i.e. 78XXXX) indicate the year of publication (1978).
`The book is further divided into a Subject Index, an Author Index and a Chronological Index.
`
`SUBJECT INDEX
`
`The Subject Index cross references papers under more than 800 subject headings. A list of these head-
`ings begins on page i.
`To use the Subject Index, select from this list the subject heading or headings which most clearly de-
`scribe the subject about which you desire information. Subject Index listings appear in alphabetical order
`beginning on page 1. Beneath the appropriate subject heading is a listing in chronological order of all papers
`published on that subject by SAE between 1965 and 1978. Each paper listing contains the Paper Number
`and the title of the paper. Note that additional cross references are suggested to aid your search.
`
`EXAMPLE:
`
`PROBLEM: Find information on Adiabatic Diesel Engines.
`
`Closest Listings: Diesel Engines/Heat Resistant Materials
`
`First paper listed under Diesel Engines.
`
`Diesel Design for Turbocharging‘ 650007
`
`Note cross references under Heat Resistant Materials to Ceramics, etc.
`
`AUTHOR INDEX
`
`The Author Index provides a listing in alphabetical order of all authors and co-authors of SAE papers
`between 1965 and 1978 along with a listing beneath each autl1or’s name of the title and paper number for
`each of that author’s papers published by SAE. This index may be used to locate a particular paper when
`only the author’s name is known, or to locate possible additional papers by the same author.
`
`EXAMPLE:
`
`PROBLEM: Find 1972 paper by G. Jones on motor vehicle noise.
`
`-LISTING:
`
`Jones, G.
`
`Motor Vehicle Noise—ldentification and Analysis of Situations Contributing to
`Annoyance
`720276
`
`CHRONOLOGICAL INDEX
`
`The Chronological Index is a complete listing in order of publication (as indicated by paper numbers)
`for all papers published from 1965-1978. Since listings are in order by paper number, they can be used to
`secure additional information about a particular paper when the number is known. Each listing contains:
`paper number, paper title, author's name, and author’s employment affiliation at time of publication.
`
`IMPORTANT NOTE
`
`Some paper listings under all three sections of this Index will contain the following designation:
`
`
`

`
`(SP — XXX) Indicates that the paper is part of a Special Publication. Titles of Special Publications are
`provided on page x in numerical order.
`
`(P — XX) Indicates that the paper is part of a Conference Proceedings. Titles of Conference Proceed.
`ings are provided on page xii in numerical order.
`
`Prices and ordering information on these books are on pages
`SAE Trans, Vol. XX indicates that because of its technical content and reference value, this paper was
`selected for inclusion in the indicated volume of SAE Transactions. SAE Transactions are available in both
`casebound volumes and microfiche. Prices and ordering information may-be obtained from SAE, 400 Com-
`monwealth Drive, Warrendale, PA 15096.
