`“Commercial Vehicle”
`
`
`
`The invention relates to a commercial vehicle according to the generic part of the claim such
`as is known from agricultural vehicles of the Applicant under the trade name “MB-trac”.
`
`In vehicles intended for agriculture requirements are to be observed that can influence the
`vehicle width. Therefore, e.g. track widths set by the row widths of the plants are necessary
`for commercial vehicles. However, four equally large wheels with a large outside diameter
`cannot readily be arranged on a narrow-track commercial vehicle if the center of gravity of
`the vehicle should be as low as possible and/or the turning radius should be held small. The
`space requirement between the longitudinal carriers always depends on the engine width and
`is determined here in particular by the dimensions of the engine flywheel, which
`simultaneously serves as carrier for the clutch.
`
`Furthermore, additional space is also needed for the front power take-off shaft to be run for
`example past the flywheel and for the auxiliary units such as the brake compressor, oil pumps
`for hydraulic lifers and steering, etc. to be arranged in the area of the drive unit so that a
`certain size cannot be dropped below for the distance between the two longitudinal carriers.
`
`The invention has the problem of improving such vehicles in such a manner that that in spite
`of the four equally large wheels with a large outside diameter a small track width and a small
`turning radius can be achieved.
`
`This problem is solved by the characterizing part of the claim.
`
`The bending of the longitudinal carriers toward the vehicle middle creates additional space
`for the locked front wheels. The arrangement is to be made in such a manner that that the
`front wheel in the curve inside lies with its innermost point located opposite the longitudinal
`central plane in the frame constriction beginning behind the drive unit upon the steering lock.
`As a consequence, relatively small track widths can be achieved with a certain frame width
`whose size is are approximately twice as narrow as the frame indent.
`
`The invention will be explained in detail using an exemplary embodiment shown in the
`drawings.
`
`In the drawings:
`
`Fig. 1 shows a view of the commercial vehicle according to the invention and
`

`

`
`

`
`Fig. 2 shows a top view.
`
`Fig. 1 shows a commercial vehicle consisting of a drive unit 1, a transmission block 3
`connected to it by a pair of longitudinal carriers 2, of a steerable front axle 4 with the front
`wheels 5 and 5’, of an articulated shaft 6 connecting the drive unit 1 and the transmission
`block 3, of the radiator 7 and of the auxiliary aggregates arranged in the area of the drive
`aggregate 1 such as brake compressor 8, starter 9, oil filter 10, injection pump 11, etc. (fig. 2).
`The transmission block 3 contains the gear shift, the rear axle drive with the rear wheels 12,
`12’ and the power take-off shaft outputs, which are not shown.
`
`The longitudinal carriers 2 are bent toward the vehicle center 13 shortly behind the drive unit
`1 and are connected to a fixed carrier frame 15 by cross carriers 14, 14’. The front axis 4 is
`arranged below the drive unit 1 and comprises on the one hand a ground clearance of
`approximately 60-80% of the diameter of the wheels, whereby the diameter of the wheels 5,
`5’ and 12, 12’ is approximately 60-140% of the track width and on the other hand when the
`front wheels 5, 5’ are locked, the wheel on the inside of the curve engages into the bent the
`area of the carrier frame 15 which is decisive at the same time for the limitation of the wheel
`lock. As a result of the steering kinematics the extensions of the two locked axial shanks meet
`at a point 16 which means that the wheel on the outside of the curve is locked by a lesser
`angle and therefore the carrier frame 15 in the front part 17 of the same can be designed to be
`wider. The carrier frame 15 is adapted toward the transmission block 3, which means that it
`can be received even without widening of the carrier frame. On account of the rather simple
`view only the articulated shaft 6 is shown between the drive unit 1 and the transmission block
`3.

`
`Claim
`
` A
`
` commercial vehicle with four equally large wheels and with a carrier frame comprising a
`pair of longitudinal carriers, of which wheels the two front ones can be steered relative to the
`carrier frame, wherein the carrier frame is arranged in its height in such a manner that that the
`ground clearance is at the most approximately 90% of the diameter of the wheels and wherein
`the diameter of the wheels is approximately 60 to 140% of the track width, furthermore with
`a drive unit located in the area of the front axle, characterized in that the longitudinal carriers
`(2) are bent behind the drive unit (1) toward the vehicle center (13).
