`SEA'|'|'LE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 8, 1995—Adobe Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:ADBE) today announced that 16
`progressive electronic prepress and computer companies will embrace the Adobe OPEN prepress workflow automation
`system by developing compatible versions of their software products for the OPEN software environment.
`
`The third-party applications will take advantage of the OPEN software's workflow architecture to let users customize
`their prepress environment with familiar software products for production tasks.
`
`The first 12 companies include CatTrax; Covalent Systems; Dantz Development Corp.; David Berman Developments;
`Digital Equipment Corp.; Group Logic; Imaging Management Systems; Lupin Software; MetaCommunications;
`Programmed Solutions; Systems of Merritt; and Vitec Associates Ltd. Their products should be compatible with OPEN
`software by the end of the third quarter 1995. Other applications, due later in the year, will be built by Creo Products
`|nc.; Managing Editor Software; P.|nk software engineering GMBH & Co.; and Purup Prepress A/S.

`OPEN software."

`Adobe OPEN is an electronic production manager that will provide an open prepress environment for integrating and
`automating many of the tasks associated with prepress imaging such as imposition, trapping, color separation and
`image replacement. These functions are typically performed using single, standalone applications without a common
`base. Being platform independent, OPEN will automate the prepress workflow using off-the-shelf tools while allowing
`users to run various prepress processes without operator intervention.

`All of the companies are members of the Adobe OPEN Aware Developer Program, which gives third-party firms
`access to the Adobe OPEN Aware software development kit to create OPEN Aware products. The OPEN Aware
`software development kit describes three tiers of OPEN "awareness," or compliancy. Each tier provides a different
`level of interaction for the developers to link their applications to the OPEN system.
`
`OPEN Tier 1 allows a computer application to receive commands from the OPEN system and execute those
`commands on any given electronic file. Tier 2 provides for the same commands as Tier 1, plus it allows a Tier 2
`application to communicate back to OPEN regarding a job's progress, error reports, and logs of significant events in the
`OPEN message log. Tiers 1 and 2 are designed primarily for applications that will be controlled by OPEN. Tier 3 is
`different from the other two tiers in that a Tier 3 OPEN Aware application can monitor OPEN communications having
`access to all actions being executed through the OPEN production pipeline, a user-defined workflow sequence. This
`will be particularly useful for third-party applications that make job tracking or billing systems by allowing them to easily
`monitor the OPEN system for necessary information.

`Tier 1 and Tier 2 applications in development include Dantz Development Corp.'s Retrospect and Retrospect Remote
`products, which provide integrated backup and archiving solutions for prepress customers; a future product from Digital
`Equipment Corp. that will verify PostScript language files for conformance to the Adobe PostScript language Document
`Structuring Convention (DSC) specification; Group Logic's lmagexpo remote viewing and annotation application; Lupin
`Software's Let'er RIP product, an intelligent Adobe Postscript file downloader that transfers PostScript language files
`to a printer or imagesetter; and Systems of Merritt's LaserCheck preflight software.

`Several companies will develop or modify their applications to be Tier 3 OPEN Aware. CatTrax will use the Tier 3
`specification to link external OPEN Aware applications to its unique "to-do" database for task management and job
`cost accounting. Covalent Systems will use the OPEN integration specification to build a Tier 3 application that
`interprets OPEN messages, converts them to Cova|ent's JobMonitor protocol, and feeds business management
`systems with real-time job activity data. David Berman Developments will modify their TimeWise and TimeSave
`programs to be Tier 3 OPEN Aware. Imaging Management Systems will develop modules for OPEN software that will
`provide a fully automated workflow management system. MetaCommunications will enhance their Job Manager
`workflow software to provide scheduling, tracking and billing information. Programmed Solutions’ Prepress DMI module
`will track prepress jobs through the prepress production and automatically post time and materials to jobs instantly.
`
`Other applications and OPEN Aware Developer Program members will be announced in the future.
