` Q. Okay.
` A. And you know, I'm sure this was dismissed
`immediately as not practical and not useful because
`you wouldn't be able to port this approach to other
`platforms. It's very Windows-specific.
` Q. Okay. Are there any disadvantages to use
`a Winsock interceptor that you don't get with
`virtual adapter?
` A. Oh, tons of disadvantages. One, you're
`intercepting in user mode, so you're going to miss
`any kernel network traffic that might be generated
`by a kernel component. Again, you're going to run
`into the same type of, because it's a hooking-type
`intercept function, incompatibilities with other
`software. There could be other vendors who have
`layered service providers that conflict with yours.
`You would have to get the ordering right that your
`layered service provider sat below theirs. It
`would just be a terrible approach.
