`
`North Chelmsford, MA -- (press release excerpt) -- SavaJe Technologies announced the
`release of version 1.0 of its SavaJe XE operating system. SavaJe XE is the first
`operating system for embedded and handheld devices to support a full desktop Java 2
`Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) environment. As a result, appliance manufacturers,
`enterprises and systems integrators can now deliver fast, distributed, secure, and
`graphically rich Java applications to the wide range of portable and embedded devices
`that are emerging in both the enterprise and consumer markets.
`
`"The release of SavaJe XE version 1.0 marks our entry into the embedded and handheld
`operating environment (EHOE) market," said George Grey, CEO of SavaJe
`Technologies. "Developers, enterprises and OEMs are demanding better Java solutions
`for resource constrained devices, until now characterized by poor performance and
`limited functionality. SavaJe aims to become a key player in the EHOE market by
`offering the only platform able to run full Java applications at "native" speeds on
`embedded and handheld devices such as smart-phones, PDAs, web tablets, set-top
`boxes, and home servers." According to market analyst IDC, the EHOE market revenue
`was $666.2 million in 2000 and is expected to grow to $2.8 billion by 2005.
`
`SavaJe XE version 1.0 currently runs on the Compaq iPAQ H3600, H3700 and H3800
`series handhelds, and may be ported to any Intel StrongARM, Intel XScale or ARM-
`based device with a minimum configuration of 150MHz processor speed, 12MB of
`non-volatile memory and 32MB of RAM.
`
`By supporting a J2SE/J2ME environment natively, SavaJe XE provides the fastest and
`most complete Java platform necessary for the deployment of real-world enterprise and
`distributed applications. SavaJe XE is the only platform for information appliances and
`embedded devices able to run J2ME CDC, Personal Java and J2SE JDK 1.3.1
`applications.
`
`SavaJe XE ships with a full suite of Java applications, including a secure browser, an
`HTML email client, calendar, to-do list, contact lists, MP3 music player, picture
`viewer, notepad editor, and games. Java developers will find that all standard device
`drivers are present in SavaJe XE, including support for color displays, an external
`keyboard, Ethernet, wireless networking, and dialup networking.
`
`SavaJe XE is available immediately for purchase from the SavaJe website for $100 per
`license, and may be installed on the Compaq iPAQ H3600, H3700 and H3800 Series
`handheld computers. The company is also making a free 30-day evaluation copy of
`
`gadgets & devices
