`
`Park Dong-Gun, CEO of Samsung Display shared his negative
`view on the OLED TV market. That suggests quite a contrary
`position of Samsung Display against LG Display with its
`aggressive plans to advance into the OLED TV market by
`increasing the cost competiveness of large-sized OLED
`screens.
`
`At the "2014 Display Mutual Cooperation Committee for
`Display" which was held at the Renaissance Seoul Hotel on
`Wednesday, Park said to reporters that "Samsung Display will
`start the OLED TV business when its market takes off."
`
`The head of Samsung Display even asked to reporters that "Let’s suppose you have two
`versions for a 64-inch curved UHD TV with a LCD screen and a OLED screen. Then
`which one you would buy?" He then highlighted the fact that the OLED product is
`generally twice expensive than the LCD product.
`
`He also went to say that "You can have a show for nothing" to highlight his view that the
`OLED market is not commercially viable now.
`
`In contrast, Han Sang-Bum, CEO of LG Display, said at a press conference held on June
`26 that the company will create and lead the OLED TV market.
`
`Despite the OLED panel has a lot of advantages over other display panels, it has not
`been welcomed by the TV industry because it is extremely difficult to manage its
`technology and related manufacturing process, and it also requires sizable investments
`continuously.

`
`However, Samsung Display and LG Display have contrary views on the OLED TV
`market. The former is more reserved with a wait-and-see attitude whereas the latter sees
`the OLED MV market as a new market with opportunities that it can take advantage of.
`
`Meanwhile, asked by reporters that "Samsung Display is too dependent on the mobile
`business of Samsung Electronics for supplying its display products, Park replied that
`"There are few options (except Samsung Electronics)." The profitability of Samsung
`Display is closed linked to Samsung Electronics’ business performances that if Samsung
`Electronics’ profit drops, then it usually badly hurts the profit of Samsung Display.
