`
`Dear Bill:
`
`Please conduct your standard patentability search for a remote flight recorder and timely aircraft
`advisory system. The inventor has provided the enclosed preliminary write up and drawings.
`
`What this invention boils down to is replacing the current, on-board flight data recorders (the
`black boxes they always search for when airplanes crash) with on-board sensors and radio
`transmitters. Consequently, aircraft flight data can be constantly recorded remotely from the
`aircraft. This would provide cost and weight savings as well as eliminate the need for a search
`for the black box when an aircraft crashes. It could also provide an indication of which
`direction the aircraft went when it failed thus enabling people to better estimate where a downed
`aircraft can be located.
`
`In addition, with a global communication network in place and a few more sensors, the system
`will be able to identify components which need to be serviced or replaced and will be able to
`provide real time emergency advice to cockpit crews.
`
`Please send two copies of each patent that you uncover. Thank you and again, if you have any
`questions, please do not hesitate to call.
`
`Yours sincerely,
`
`
`
`Norton R. Townsley
