`
`The SwitchPoint III must be installed in a lo-
`cation that is at least 2 meters from a patient.
`The leakage current could increase when con-
`nected to other equipment.
`The operator should take precautions to avoid
`touching the rear panel input and output cir-
`cuitry and the patient at the same time.
`The SwitchPoint III is intended for use in a
`medical environment to route video signals
`and display video pictures from cameras or
`other video inputs.

`SWITCHPOINT III COMPONENTS
`
`SWITCHPOINT III
`AN INTEGRATED VOICE, VIDEO, AND DATA
`ROUTER AND CONFERENCING INTERFACE
`The SwitchPoint III is built with the highest
`quality video and audio components available. Sys-
`tems are designed to operate and communicate with
`a broad range of existing equipment produced by
`Stryker and other manufacturers. Each system has
`a built-in remote troubleshooting capability for off-
`site service and support, and internal software can
`be modified or updated remotely.
`The Touchpanel Interface controls nearly ev-
`ery function of the SwitchPoint III. There should be
`no need to manually change any system settings.

`ICTS HARDWARE OVERVIEW
`
`SWITCHPOINT(cid:153) III
`The Stryker SwitchPoint(cid:153) III manages
`all voice, video and data routing within the En-
`dosuitefi Operating Room. The touchpanel fea-
`tures a built-in preview function, eliminating the
`need for external preview monitors.
`Use of video documentation devices is
`simplified with the SwitchPoint III. Recording
`images from several different sources can be
`controlled without rewiring the system, saving
`valuable time in the OR.
`
`THE TOUCHPANEL INTERFACE
`The Touchpanel Interface controls nearly
`every function of the SwitchPoint III and the
`ICTS network within the campus. There should
`be no need to manually change any system
`settings.
`Every room within the ICTS campus (OR,
`auditorium or conference room, nuclear medi-
`cine, pathology) operates in much the same
`way. The screen displayed for each location
`offers a menu of options dependent on the
`equipment that is installed in that particular
`room.

`
`ICTS HARDWARE OVERVIEW
`
`VIDEO NETWORK HUB
`The Video Network Hub is the video, au-
`dio, data, and telecommunications center for
`the Interactive Campus Telemedical System.
`It acts as a video switching network directing
`and channeling content to other departments,
`conference rooms and auditoriums as well as
`off-site.
`The Hub connects Endosuite ORs, tradi-
`tional operating rooms, Conference Rooms and
`Auditoriums, as well as equipment produced
`by many other manufacturers. The Hub enables
`campus-wide users to make video conferenc-
`ing calls to each other independently.
`The Hub(cid:146)s (cid:147)star(cid:148) topology ensures that a
`malfunction with any one remote location will
`not affect the operation of the balance of the
`ICTS network.

`
`ICTS HARDWARE OVERVIEW
`
`THE CODEC
`An off-site video conference uses the
`built-in codec to place a series of calls on from
`one to twelve high-speed phone lines called
`BRI lines. Each BRI line consists of two ISDN
`lines and a data channel. Each BRI line pro-
`vides 128 Kbps of transmission speed. Twelve
`BRI lines make up a full PRI which provides
`1.472 Mbps of transmission rate.
`The more BRI lines that are used for a
`teleconference call, the better the video qual-
`ity, but also the more expensive the call. A coast
`to coast single BRI line call costs approximately
`$10 per hour. Likewise a coast to coast six
`channel BRI call would cost approximately $60
`per hour. Consult your telecommunications de-
`partment for more information and exact rates.
`
`PAN/TILT/ZOOM
`ROOM CAMERAS
`(PTZ CAMERAS)
`The SwitchPoint III and the ICTS network
`use CCD color video cameras with an inte-
`grated pan, tilt and zoom control system. De-
`spite their size and compact appearance these
`cameras offer exceptional resolution, opera-
`tional ease and durability.
`Cameras are permanently wired into the
`SwitchPoint III, there are no other physical ad-
`justments required.
`
`This chart shows the number of BRI lines commonly
`used for video conferencing and the video bandwidth
`provided:
`(cid:149)
`1 BRI line = 128 Kbps
`(cid:149)
`3 BRI lines = 384 Kbps
`(cid:149)
`6 BRI lines = 768 Kbps
`(cid:149)
`12 BRI lines = 1 PRI or 1.472 Mbps
`The quality of video transmission (as viewed by
`the off-site location improves with more bandwidth. The
`more BRI lines the wider the bandwidth.

`WIRELESS MICROPHONE

`The wireless microphone receiver is lo-
`cated in the lower portion of the SwitchPoint III
`rack. The power indicator will light up and one
`of the tuner operation indicator LED(cid:146)s (A or B)
`will light, even though the transmitter is not on.
`If any of the RF LED(cid:146)s light up at this point,
`there may be RF interference in the area. If
`this occurs, select another frequency using the
`front-panel channel selectors.
`The channel display numbers will begin
`to flash alternately while changing channels.
`Once the desired numbers are displayed, press
`the (cid:147)Set(cid:148) button to engage the channel.

`TRANSMITTER SET UP
`Before turning on the transmitter, use the
`screwdriver provided to set the transmitter
`channel selector to the same numbers as those
`displayed on the receiver. The transmitter chan-
`nel selector switch marked (cid:147)X10(cid:148) corresponds
`to the receiver(cid:146)s left-column channel display
`number, and the selector switch marked (cid:147)X1(cid:148)
`corresponds to the receiver(cid:146)s right-column
`channel display number. Always turn the trans-
`mitter off when changing frequencies.
`When the transmitter is switched on and
`in normal operation, the receiver(cid:146)s RF signal
`level indicators will light up from left to right.
`For optimum performance at least four, and
`preferably five, of the indicators should light up
`when the transmitter is switched on. The trans-
`mitters have a three-position power switch.
`When the switch is set to (cid:147)Standby,(cid:148) the trans-
`mitter produces RF with no audio signal. When
`the switch is (cid:147)On,(cid:148) the transmitter produces
`both RF and audio.

`
`CONNECTORS USED BY
`THE SWITCHPOINT III
`The SwitchPoint III uses various commercial-
`grade video and audio cables to interconnect
`equipment.
`Two primary types of cables are used in
`wiring video systems: NTSC cables, which
`have a BNC connector, and s-video cables,
`which have a 4-pin mini-DIN connector. BNC
`connectors are push and turn type connectors
`while s-video connectors are push only type
`connectors. On some monitors, s-video inputs
`may be labeled Y/C or S-VHS.
`The room speaker connection on the
`SwitchPoint III uses a (cid:147)Speakon(cid:148) connector.
`This connector secures with a push and turn
`motion.
