`IEEE PROJECT 802, WHICH CREATES STANDARDS FOR LOCAL AND METROPOLITAN AREA
`NETWORKS, ANNOUNCES THE FORMATION OF A NEW WORKING GROUP, P802.ll, TO DEVELOP
`STANDARDS FOR WIRELESS LOCAL AREA NETWORKS.
`
`MEANS OF CONNECTING COMMUNICATIONS NETWORKS OR DEVICES MEETING EXISTING AND
`EMERGING IEEE 802 STANDARDS TO THE PROPOSED 802 WIRELESS NETWORKS WILL ALSO BE
`DEVELOPED.
`
`WIRELESS NETWORKS ARE EXPECTED TO SUPPORT DATA COMMUNICATIONS, AND LIMITED
`VOICE COMMUNICATIONS, AMONG FIXED, PORTABLE, AND SLOWLY MOVING EQUIPMENT
`WITHOUT REQUIRING CABLING CONNECTIONS TO SUCH EQUIPMENT.
`IT IS EXPECTED THAT
`WIRELESS APPLICATIONS ARE OF INTEREST TO USERS WHO FACE FREQUENT RELOCATIONS,
`NEED FAST INSTALLATIONS, OR FUNCTION WHERE CABLES ARE NOT ALLOWED.
`
`AREAS OF USE INCLUDE OFFICES, FACTORIES AND WAREHOUSES, RETAIL AND OTHER INDOOR
`AND MALL ENVIRONMENTS.
`
`THE IEEE COMPUTER SOCIETY, THE LARGEST OF 35 SOCIETIES WITHIN THE 300,000 MEMBER
`INSTITUTE OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS (IEEE), SERVES MORE THAN 100,000
`INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PROFESSIONALS VIA ITS FOUR OFFICES WORLDWIDE. THE SOCIETY
`HELPS ESTABLISH AND FOSTER INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AND
`ENGINEERING AND HAS BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN DEVELOPMENT AND ACCREDITATION OF
