`
`Detailed Description of the Invention
`
`(Field of Use in Industry)
`
`The present invention relates to a portable wireless telephone set, in particular to a portable
`wireless telephone set which enables in addition to transmission of audio information also transmission
`of video information.
`
`(Prior Art Technology)
`Together with the progress of the information society, Pocket Bell telephones and portable
`wireless telephones (cellular type wireless telephones) have become very popular.
`
`DFTS_PA_00002?4
`
`6
`
`
`
`FIG 5 shows a perspective view of a portable wireless telephone set according to prior art. The
`main unit 1 of the portable wireless set is equipped with a liquid crystal display 2, a speaker 3, a
`microphone 4, an antenna 5, and key buttons 6, as well as with a system of internal circuits and the like, not
`shown in the figure, and can be used for cordless transmission and receiving as commonly known. Said
`liquid crystal display 2 can be operated with key buttons 6 in order to display for example telephone
`numbers that have been stored in memory ahead of time, as well as text of personal names and the like.
`
`Incidentally, although conventional portable wireless telephone sets of this type have also had
`functions for transmission of voice information or of data information, they have not been provided
`with a function making it possible to capture and transmit video information, or a function making it
`possible to integrate incoming transmitted video signals therein and display them as images.
`
`(Task to Be Solved By This Invention)
`
`As was explained above, conventional portable wireless telephone sets could be used to receive
`only voice transmission, as they were not sufficient for transmission of information difficult to
`communicate by audio alone, such as the outward appearance of objects, or of images of individuals for
`reciprocal transmission of information (identification of individual persons), or of landscapes, etc.
`
`In addition, although it is necessary to notify police, fire department, etc., in situations when
`speed is of the utmost im'pbrtance during an emergency, for instance when an accident has occurred,
`the problem has been that in some cases there is no design provided for prompt transmission of
`
`accurate information by audio alone.
`
`_
`
`In view of the problem areas described above, the present invention provides a portable
`wireless telephone set which enables imaging and transmission of video information, as well as
`receiving and display of video information.
`
`(Means To Achieve the Task)
`
`The aforementioned purpOse of the present invention is achieved with a portable wireless
`telephone set to which is added or coupled at least a Video display means or at least an imaging means,
`which depending on the case can be freely attached to or detached from the main unit of a portable
`wireless telephone set, making it possible to display a received video signal as video, or making it
`possible to transmit a captured image as avideo signal.
`
`(Operation)
`
`A video signal, received with an antenna of a portable wireless telephone set, is processed in a
`suitable maimer by a processing circuit system and displayed by avideo display means, for instance on
`a liquid crystal display, so that a communicating party can receive video information together with
`audio information. In addition, because each type of video information is captured with an imaging
`means, loaded as electric signal, and then suitably processed with a processing circuit system, the video
`signal can be transmitted from an antenna as radio waves. This makes it possible to conduct reciprocal
`video transmissions with a portable wireless telephone set.

`
`(Embodiments)
`
`_ The foiiowiug is a description of embodiments of the present invention with reference to the
`I drawings.
`‘
`
`FIG I and FIG 2 relate to a portable wireless telephone set according to Embodiment l of this
`invention. FIG 1 shows a perspective view thereof and FIG 2 shows a block diagram of the same.
`
`As shown in the figures, 1 is a portable wireless telephone set, comprising, generally speaking,
`a main unit function part 10, a video display part 20 and an imaging part 30, which are mechanically
`integrated and j oined together as well as connected together electrically. Said main unit function part '10
`is equipped with a speaker 3, a microphone 4, key buttons (key input means) 6, and anantenna 5, which
`are connected to a transceiver circuit 11, a main control circuit 12, a video system control circuit 13,
`etc. The main control circuit 12 is connected to the speaker 3, microphone 4, key buttons 6, and video
`system control circuit 13, as well as to the signal processing circuit 33 of said imaging part 30. Said
`video display part 20 is equipped with a liquid crystal display 2 and with a driving circuit 21, etc. When
`said driving circuit 21 receives a video signal transmitted from said video system control circuit 13, the
`received video signal is displayed on the liquid crystal display 2. In addition, said imaging part 30 is
`equipped with a lens system 31, an imaging element such as a CCD or the like, a signal processing
`circuit 33, and a control circuit 34, etc, so that each type of video information loaded as electric signals
`by the image pickup element 32 is transmitted through signal processing circuit 33 to the main unit
`fiinction part 10. In addition, control of imaging with imaging part 30 may be also exercised by
`operating the key buttons 6 of the main unit fimetion part 10, or with a manual operation means created
`Within imaging part 30 itself.
`
`In the configuration described above, transmitted information received by antenna 5 is sent from
`transceiver circuit 11 to the main control circuit 12 and divided into an audio signal and a video signal, the
`audio signal is output from the speaker 3, while the video signal is sent from the video system control
`circuit 13 to the image display part 20, so that image information sent to the liquid crystal display 2 is
`displayed and output as an image. In addition, video information acquired by imaging part 30 is sent to the
`main control circuit 12 of the main function part 10 and transmitted from the antenna 5 via the transceiver
`circuit 11. Furthermore, audio signals input from the microphone 4 are transmitted via the main control
`circuit 12 and the transceiver circuit 11.
`
`As described above, when persons transmitting information each have a portable wireless
`telephone provided with the above described construction, this makes it possible to mutually transmit video
`infermation as well as audio information, thus enabling prompt and accurate delivery of information in
`image form that is difficult to deliver by audio signals alone, and as a result it is possible to accurately and
`promptly deliver in image form conditions such as situations during an emergency when an accident
`occurred, etc.
`
`FIG 3 shows another embodiment of the present invention. In this embodiment, the main unit 1 of
`a portable wireless telephone set can be connected through a dedicated cable 41 to a large video display set
`(for example a CRT display device) in order to display images received with the portable wireless
`telephone main unit 1 on this large image display set 40. By so doing, the image can be made large and
`
`8
`
`errsmnnfioomre
`
`8
`
`
`
`visibility enhanced, and, can thus be viewed by a large number of people.
`
`FIG 4 shows yet another embodiment ofthe present invention. In this embodiment, imaging part
`30 is made freely attachable and removable from portable wireless telephone main unit 1 so that when the
`imaging part 30 is mechanically integrated with the main portable wireless telephone unit 1, an electric
`connection between both parts 1 and 30 is established with a connector 42 (not shown in some ofthe
`figures), creating a fimction completely identical to the embodiment shown in said FIG 1 and FIG 2.
`Moreover, when imaging part 30 is removed from the portable wireless telephone main unit 1, both parts 1
`and 30 are connected electrically with a dedicated cable 43, enabling imaging part 30 to be bandied and
`capture images in a'state that is independent from portable wireless telephone main unit 1. This enables
`excellent operability for taking of pictures and the subject images can be taken with a wide range.
`
`The present invention can be also provided with various modifications in addition to the
`embodiments described above. For example, the-main function part 10 may be provided. only with said
`video display part 20 or only with the imaging- part 30, enabling only reception and display of image
`information, or enabling only capturing of image information and signal} transmission. Furthermore, a
`portable wireless'telephone haviug'a main function part 10 can be equipped for docking with functions
`having a video display part 20 and an imaging part 30, thus enabling reciprocal transmission of images.
`
`(Effect of the Invention)
`
`As was explained above, this invention makes it possible to promptly and accurately transfer
