`
`The nearly 100 lawyers in our Washington, D.C. office are uniquely positioned to serve clients locally, nationally and internationally. Reed
`Smith began to establish its presence in the nation’s capital with the opening of the D.C. office in 1970, merging with Gall, Lane & Powell in
`1976, and then merging again in 1989 with Pierson Ball & Dowd. The D.C. lawyers have maintained a historical reputation for serving clients
`in areas of regulatory and government affairs, financial services, insurance recovery, health care, import and export compliance, government
`contracts, litigation, real estate, intellectual property, labor and employment, and benefits law.
`
`The D.C. office boasts a substantial litigation practice, with seasoned and experienced trial veterans, focusing on products liability; significant
`antitrust matters; and intellectual property, particularly with the ITC (International Trade Commission) and the PTO (Patent and Trademark
`Office). In addition, the transactional practice is strong in the areas of business and finance; corporate advice and defense; health care; labor
`and employment, primarily representing management; and government relations on local, state and federal levels.
`
`Plus, the lawyers in D.C. routinely counsel clients on regulatory and legislative matters, matters of fraud and abuse, payment, reimbursement
`and coverage, health planning, and licensure, as well as on transactional matters, medical staff affairs and patient care issues, export/import
`compliance, and infrastructure solutions and privatization. Some of the office’s notable clients include Astellas, Children’s Hospital, C. R.
`Bard, Fannie Mae, Omnicare, SAIC and the United Negro College Fund.
`
`The partners and associates of the Washington, D.C. office are very active in the local business community through individual and personal
`involvement in the D.C. Chamber of Commerce, the Federal City Council and Greater Washington Board of Trade. The D.C. lawyers and
`office staff also support the local community through involvement with the DC Bar, Greater DC Cares, Susan G. Komen 5K to fight breast
`cancer, Lawyers Have Heart 10K to fight heart disease, and the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program. Lawyers from the D.C. office also
`serve on various boards of nonprofit organizations.
`
`Please contact Washington, D.C. Office Managing Partner Gary Thompson at +1 202 414 9418 for more information about the legal
`capabilities of our Washington office.

`Overview
`
`Marc specializes in assisting clients in managing and monetizing
`their intellectual property assets and in defending against patent
`assertions. Marc is experienced in post grant challenges in the U.S.
`Patent Office, including inter-partes review proceedings. He has
`developed structured procedures for defining and executing
`intellectual property strategies that are aligned with overall business
`objectives. From procuring and enforcing rights both in the United
`States and abroad to structuring and negotiating intellectual
`property transactions, Marc uses his skills and experience to help
`his clients achieve all of their objectives. Marc possesses a unique
`ability to understand the needs of his clients and to deliver relevant,
`timely and practical intellectual property related business and legal
`advice.
`
`Marc has developed and managed patent portfolios that have been
`widely licensed by major corporations. Often times, he guides his
`clients in the sale of patents, that are no longer relevant to core
`objectives. Marc's practice encompasses work in a wide variety of
`technical fields including content aggregation and targeting, digital
`rights management, database technology, document retrieval,
`search engine technology, and data mining.
`
`Marc has spoken across the country, authored several articles, and
`been quoted in notable publications such as the New York Times,
`with respect to a variety of intellectual property issues. Marc has
`served as a chair of the Law Seminars International Conferences
`on patent monetization, which are held across the U.S. to provide
`education and industry insights to business consultants and in-
`house counsel alike.
