`structured so that a memory card loading part of said image storage means has a terminal that
`can be loaded, and outside light can be let in from the back of said display part, wherein said
`display is connected to said memory card loading part, and used as a view finder or playback
`screen.
`
`
`BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
`
`1.
`
`
`Field of Industrial Application
`The present
`invention relates to an electronic still camera equipped with a mobile
`telephone for sending/receiving telephone call signals via radio frequencies.
`
`2.
`
`Prior Art
`
`Electronic still cameras in recent years have become digitized due to reasons such as
`circuit stability. Similarly, memory cards are being used as external storage media since
`images will not deteriorate. Figure 10 is a circuit diagram that shows an example of a
`conventional digital electronic still camera. Light from the object, which is not shown in
`the figure, is formed on imaging element2 by a lens 1. The output from imaging element2
`is converted to a digital signal by an A/D converter 3, and prescribed processing of it
`takes place in image processing circuit4. The image data of image processing circuit4 is
`compressed and encoded. The encoded image data is decoded in decoding circuit6 and
`displayed on display8 via driver7. When release button12 is pressed, data that the button
`has been pressed is transmitted to control circuitll and the encoded image data is stored
`in memory carle. Internal memory9 temporarily stores the photographed image if, for
`example, memory carle has insufficient capacity, and is used to store the photographed
`image in a new memory card that has empty storage space.
`
`3.
`
`PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED BY THE INVENTION
`
`It is in this way, memory cards are used as external storage media; however there exists
`the problems that the number of images that can be stored in memory cards is few and
`they are still quite expensive. Furthermore, many camera and video cameras in recent
`years have been equipped with liquid crystal displays as view finders to make it easier to
`view the subject being photographed by video or the like and also to confirm the
`photographed image. However, using liquid crystal displays has the disadvantage of
`making the entire camera larger.

`
`4.
`
`5.
`
`The concept of installing a mobile telephone function in order to enable photographing
`without loading a memory card as a means was conceived by the inventor for solving the
`aforementioned disadvantage. Figure 11 is a circuit schematic showing an example of a
`conventional mobile telephone. When dialing operation part14 is used to perform the
`calling operation and input the telephone number of the person you want to call, control
`circuitl7 sends the inputted telephone number to sending circuit21 via modulation
`circuit18.
`In sending circuit21, a carrier wave from carrier wave synthesizer20 is
`superimposed, and sent via duplexer22 and antenna23. When there is a response that
`indicates that the caller has been connected, conversation is possible. Voice inputted
`through mic15 undergoes a prescribed modulation process in modulation circuit18 and is
`sent to the other party side from sending circuit21. Meanwhile, a radio wave from the
`other party is received by receiving circuit19 via antenna23 and duplexer22. In receiving
`circuitl9 the carrier wave components are removed and the radio wave is demodulation
`by demodulation circuitl6. The demodulated voice signal is reproduced by speakerl3.
`
`Since the present invention is based on the aforementioned considerations, an object of it
`is to provide an electronic still camera with a mobile telephone function that improves
`instantaneousness by giving a mobile telephone function to an electronic still camera, and
`enabling immediate transmission of photographed images to a large-scale storage
`medium located in another place using telephone lines, and can compensate for the
`limited storage memory of memory cards. Another object of the present invention is to
`provide an electronic still camera with a mobile telephone function that aims to reduce
`the size of the entire camera by equipping the electronic still camera mentioned above
`with a removable display used to observe the object being filmed and confirm
`photographed images.
`
`6.
`
`MEANS FOR SOLVING THE PROBLEM
`
`In order to achieve the aforementioned object, an electronic still camera with a mobile
`telephone function according to the present invention loads a mobile telephone function
`part that sends/receives telephone call signals via radio frequencies to a digital electronic
`still camera having an image inputting means comprising a lens and an imaging element;
`an image processing means; an image encoding means; and, an image storage means, and
`the output of the internal memory of said image storage means is connected to the input
`of a modulation circuit of said mobile telephone function part, wherein said electronic
`still camera comprises a control means that turns power to a camera part off after an
`image has been inputted by said image inputting means and stored in an internal memory
`of said image storage means following power being supplied to the camera part when a
`release button has been pressed; and, an image line securing means that instructs the
`control means of said mobile telephone function part to

`
`call a previously set telephone number of another party simultaneously when said release
`button is pressed, and controls the reading of image data stored in said internal memory
`when a line has been connected; and, said mobile telephone function part comprises a
`control part that sends image data from said internal memory to the connected line when
`the line has been connected to by the control from said image line securing means, and
`disconnects the line after sending, or, in the case where a line has not been connected,
`attempts to reconnect to a line after a fixed amount of time. Furthermore, in order to
`achieve another object,
`the present invention is equipped with a memory card-type
`display comprising a driver part and display part; and structured so that a memory card
`loading part of said image storage means has a terminal that can be loaded, and outside
`light can be let in from the back of said display part, wherein said display is connected to
`said memory card loading part, and used as a view finder or playback screen.
`
`7.
`
`[OPERATION]
`According to the aforementioned configuration, when the release button is pushed, power
`is injected and an image of the object
`is stored in the internal memory, while
`simultaneously a line for transmitting the image is secured, after which the image is
`immediately transmitted and the line is disconnected as soon as transmission has
`completed. Accordingly, the photographer can take photographs without having to carry
`external storage media, such as expensive memory cards that have little memory, and the
`abovementioned problem is
`solved. Furthermore, by enabling the display to be
`removable, electric still cameras, which have a tendency to be that much larger when
`given a mobile telephone function, can be made smaller.
`
`
`DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMB ODHVIENTS
`
`8.
`
`A more detailed explanation of the present invention is given below using the figures as
`reference. Figure 1 is a circuitry schematic showing an embodiment of an electronic still
`camera with a mobile telephone function according to the present invention. In the figure,
`part A surrounded by a dotted line is a functional part corresponding to the circuit part of
`the digital electronic still camera in Figure 10, while part B is a functional part
`corresponding to the circuit part of the mobile telephone in Figure 11, and elements
`labeled with the same symbols are parts that fulfill the same function. Digital electronic
`still camera control circuit25 controls photographing operations when the release
`button12 is pushed fully down after power is supplied to the camera part when the release
`button12 is pressed halfway down.
`Image line securing means24 sends control
`information for calling a mobile telephone, dialing, and connecting to a line to control
`circuit28 of mobile telephone function part when data indicating that release button12 has
`been pushed is obtained. Then, when line connection information is obtained from
`demodulation circuit27,
`internal memory26 of the digital electronic still camera is
`instructed to read image data. A read image data output terminal of internal memory26

`
`is connected to an input terminal of demodulation circuit29 of a mobile telephone
`function part.
`
`Figure 2 is a figure to explain an example of the outer appearance of an electronic still
`camera with a mobile telephone function wherein (a) and (b) show a slanted oblique view
`of the outside of said camera and a user holding said camera, respectively. Speakerl3 is
`located on the front-top of body25, and mic15 is located on the front-bottom, while
`antenna23 and lensl are located on the top. A display 8 is located in almost the center of
`the front with release button12 located below it, and diall4 located even further below
`[release button12]. When taking a picture, as shown in (a), if [the camera] is held in the
`left hand, pointed at an object to be photographed that is not shown in the figure, and the
`right hand is used to press release buttong12 halfway, power is supplied to the camera
`part, and the object
`to be photographed is displayed on display8. Composition is
`determined while looking at display8, and release button12 is pushed fully down to
`photograph, and transmit the photographed image. When making a telephone call, the
`call button of dialing operation part14 is pushed when in state (a), and the push buttons
`are used to enter the telephone number of the party you wish to call thereafter speakerl3
`and mic15 are used to converse.
`
`Figure 3 is a flowchart for explaining an operation sequence of an electronic still camera
`with a mobile telephone function according to the present invention. When release
`button12 is pressed halfway and power is supplied to the camera part (Step (hereinafter
`indicated as "ST") 1, 2), control circuit25 converts the image of the object formed on
`imaging element2 by lensl into a digital signal using A/D converter3, and after the image
`undergoes imaging processing, such as AGC, y correction, etc.,
`in image processing
`circuit4, it is displayed on the display8 via the driver7 (ST 3, 4). When the composition
`has been determined and release button12 is pressed fully (ST 5),
`it is encoded by
`encoding circuit5 and stored in internal memory26 (ST 6), after which power to the
`camera part is turned off leaving only enough power for necessary circuits, such as
`internal memory26 (ST 7).Control circuit25 determines whether a batch transfer mode
`has been set or not while simultaneously performing the aforementioned operations (ST
`8), and if the batch transfer mode has been set, [control circuit25] instructs image line
`securing means24 to call mobile telephone function part control circuit28 (ST 9). The
`batch transfer mode refers to a mode in which the photographer takes a prescribed
`number of photos and stores them in the internal memory after which they are transferred
`collectively, and is a mode that can be set in advance by the photographer using a setting
`switch not shown in the figure.
`
`11.
`
`Meanwhile, if the batch transfer mode has been set, the available memory of memory
`carle (if one has been installed) and internal memory26 is checked (ST 14). Then, it is
`determined whether available memory is below 11 (n can be changed using a setting
`switch not

`shown in the figure) number of photographs (ST 15). If available memory exceeds 11
`number of pictures, the process ends without transmission. If [available memory] is less
`than 11 number of pictures, the operations of ST 9 are returned to. Control circuit28 reads
`the transmission destination telephone number entered previously using the push buttons
`of dialing operation part14 from its own internal memory, and sends it via modulation
`circuit29 and sending circuit21 (ST 10), after which it is monitored whether a line is
`connected to or not (ST 11). Then, when a signal that indicates that the recipient has
`answered is returned from the line,
`that signal
`is received by receiving circuit19,
`demodulated by demodulating circuit27, and line connection information is inputted to
`control circuit28 and image line securing means24. Image line securing means24 receives
`this line connection information to read out extract image data from internal memory26.
`The extracted image data is modulated by modulating circuit29, after which it
`is
`superimposed with a carrier wave in sending circuit21 and sent from antenna23 (ST 12).
`When sending has concluded, control circuit28 disconnects the line, and power is turned
`off leaving only enough power to run circuits needed to await an incoming call (ST 13).
`
`If no signal that indicates that the recipient has answered is returned from the line,
`and a line cannot be secured, it is determined that the recipient is busy (or will not
`answer) (ST 16), and this is indicated by a light, etc. (ST 17). If it is determined
`that the recipient is not busy, a light, etc. indicates that the recipient is currently
`not capable of sending or receiving signals (ST 18). In any of the aforementioned
`cases, since the line is not connected to, control circuit28 will next determine via
`control circuit25 whether or not memory card10 has been attached or not (ST 19).
`If it is determined that memory card10 has not been attached, the photographer is
`warned of this fact via the display or a sound, etc. (ST 20). If the photographer
`abides by the warning and inserts memory card10 (ST 21), or if the memory card
`has been inserted all along, image data stored in internal memory26 is forwarded
`to memory card10 (ST 22). Next, it is checked whether or not retry mode has
`been set (ST 23). If retry mode has not been set, operations to send will conclude
`right at that point in time. If retry mode has been set, control circuit28 will
`activate its internal timer and turn power to other circuit parts off (ST 24).
`
`Then, when the prescribed amount of time has elapsed on the timer, power is turned on to
`other circuit parts,
`the call
`is made again, and the transmission recipient telephone
`number is read from internal memory. Then, the read telephone number is sent to the line
`via modulation circuit29 and sending circuit21 (ST 25). If a line can be connected to as a
`result of determining whether or not a line can be secured (ST 26),
`image data is
`forwarded from memory card10 to internal memory26 (ST 27), and the image data from
`internal memory26 is sent to the line after passing through modulating circuit29 and
`sending
`circuit21
`(ST
`12),
`and
`
