`Product related questions
`
`What are the new features in the Nokia 9110
`Communicator, how is it different from the
`9000?
`
`The Nokia 9110 Communicator is
`the 2nd generation Communicator
`from Nokia. It follows the familiar
`concept of the 9000 Communicator,
`being a combined digital phone,
`organiser and messaging terminal
`for fax and sms as well as with
`lnternetlintranet capability. This is
`however a new product with
`enhanced and even industry-first
`applications. It small and light, it has
`an improved user interface with
`high-resolution backlit screen, it
`supports the use of a flash memory
`card for extended data storage and
`it supports wireless imaging. It also
`comes with a free Windows backup
`and synchronisation package. It is
`based on the latest Nokia phone
`technology.
`
`Can Nokia 9000/1 be upgraded to Nokia 9110
`Communicator?
`
`No. The Nokia 9110 Communicator
`utilises a totally new hardware
`platform developed by Nokia.
`However, the user data (address
`book, calendar appointments, notes,
`files) in a 9000/i Communicator can
`be transferred into a Nokia 9110
`Communicator. Please see the
`connectivity section for details.

`
`How about third party applications, can
`developers continue to provide applications on
`the same platform?
`
`Applications developed for the Nokia
`9000 Communicator can be
`transported to the Nokia 9110
`Communicator, due to the core
`operating system being the same.
`However, due to certain changes in
`the software and the user interface
`(screen size, additional buttons etc.)
`some tailoring is required to the

`
`running at the same time. Many
`applications also share the same
`data source i.e. while you're writing
`a fax you can jump to the sms
`application to check a fact from a
`colleague via short message and
`jump back again to continue with the
`writing. The source of the gsm and
`faxnumbers is the contacts
`database.
`
`Can you store PC audio .WAV files on the
`unit?
`
`Search www.nokia.com
`
`Yes. WAV files can be downloaded
`from the Internet, or sound files can
`be recorded by the recording
`function itself. Usually WAV files
`take up a fair amount of space, so it
`is useful to optimise the files on the
`PC first before using them in the
`9110. The WAV files can also be
`used as ringtones. A set of WAV
`files can be found on the CDROM in
`the salespackage.
