`1.1
`(preamble)
`
`of
`
`Claim 1
`A method
`activating
`functions
`to a
`responsive
`input,
`user
`comprising:
`
`ACCUSED PRODUCTS1
`The Accused Products comprise a method of activating functions responsive to a user input.
`
`For example, to the extent the preamble is limiting, the Accused Products running the Android
`operating system include a pre-installed Internet Browser application, in which different functions
`are activated based on the user input. As one example, it provides a method for activating different
`manipulation functions based on the user input recognized by gestures such as long-tap (and
`dragging) for highlighting text and activating other editing functions, dragging (for shifting the
`visible map area) and pinch or expand (for zooming) as shown in the exemplary screenshot citations
`1.1(1)-(3).
`
`
`For another example, Internet Browser provides a method which allows a user to give input by
`selecting a control tool, inclusive of numerous controls functions (such as “Bookmark” and “Open
`Tabs,” among others), located the top of the display area. As further example, “Open Tabs” permits
`the function of browsing and navigating different open tabs as shown in screenshot citation 1.1(4). In
`yet another example, “Bookmark” permits the function of bookmarking an active webpage or
`browsing the bookmarked webpages, as shown in the screenshot citation 1.1(5).
`
`Another example is the “Find Word” control tool, which includes controls and permits the function
`of searching for a particular word or phrase within an active webpage, as shown in screenshot
`citation 1.1(6).
`
`See also, for example and without limitation, Sections 1.2-1.6.
`
`
`
`
`
`1 The Accused Products include Google’s Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, and any other product uncovered during discovery that is capable of responding to user
`input by activating a manipulation function when a user does not select a control tool or permitting activation of a control tool function in response to user input.

`
`Rockstar reserves the right to add additional information and infringement theories once discovery

`
`ACCUSED PRODUCTS1
`For example, the Accused Products includes a pre-installed Internet Browser application, which
`provides a manipulable area present in the physical viewing area of the screen display as shown in
`the screenshot citation 1.2(1). Multiple manipulation functions are associated with this manipulable
`area. As one example, long-tapping (and subsequently dragging) on the manipulable portion of the
`device activates functions responsible for highlighting text and opening up a context menu that
`allows a user to select various editing actions as shown in exemplary screenshot citation 1.2(2).
`Another example of a manipulation function includes dragging on the screen/viewing area which
`changes the portion of webpage displayed, as shown in screenshot citation 1.2(3). As another
`example, the Accused Products have a pinch zoom manipulation function as shown in screenshot
`citation 1.2(4).

`receiving a user
`input
`to
`the
`physical viewing
`area
`corresponding to
`the manipulable
`area portion and
`the representation
`of
`the
`control
`tool;
`
`ACCUSED PRODUCTS1
`The Accused Products comprise a method of receiving a user input to the physical viewing area
`corresponding to the manipulable area portion and the representation of the control tool.
`
`For example, the Accused Products can receive user input when running the pre-installed Internet
`Browser application when the user long taps (and subsequently drags, transversing under the control
`tool) on text in the manipulable portion area as shown in screenshot citation 1.4(1). In another
`example, an Accused Product can receive user input when the user performs a dragging action to the
`physical viewing area corresponding to the manipulable area portion and the representation of the
`control tool, transversing under the control tool, as shown in screenshot citation 1.4(2). In another
`example, an Accused Product can receive user input when the user double-taps or uses pinch
`gestures to the physical viewing area corresponding to the manipulable area portion and the
`representation of the control tool, transversing under the control tool, as shown in screenshot citation
`1.4(3).
`
`For further example, an Accused Product can receive user input when the user taps on the “Open
`tabs” control included in the control tool at the top of the display as shown in screenshot citation
`1.4(4). In another example an Accused Product can receive user input when the user taps on
`“Bookmark” control in the control tool at the top of the display as shown in screenshot citation
`1.4(5). In another example an Accused Product can receive user input when the user taps on the up
`or down arrow keys while using the “Find Word” control tool representation as shown in screenshot
`citation 1.4(6).

`the user input does not select the control tool or permitting the at least one control tool function to be
`activated when the user input does select the control tool.
`
`When a user using the pre-installed Internet Brower provides input in the physical viewing area but
`does not select the control tool, the input activates at least one manipulation function. Specifically,
`the user input activates the manipulation function without interference from the control tool, which
`remains inactive, even when the user input corresponding to the manipulation function traverses
`under the control tool. For example, long clicking and dragging on the physical viewing area
`corresponding to the manipulable area portion and the representation of the control tool activates the
`functions of highlighting text and providing a context based editing menu, as shown in screenshot
`citation 1.6(3). In another example, user input by dragging in the manipulable area portion activates
`the manipulation function of shifting the webpage contents, even when the user input drags under a
`control tool, as shown in screenshot citation 1.6(4). In another example, the manipulation function
`zooming is activated when the user double-taps or uses pinch gestures on the physical viewing area
`corresponding to the manipulable area portion and the representation of the control tool portion, even
`when the user input pinch-gestures under a control tool, as shown in screenshot citation 1.6(5).
`
`When a user using the pre-installed Internet Brower provides input in the physical viewing area and
`selects a control tool, at least one control tool function associated with the control tool is permitted to
`be activated. For example, when a user gives input by tapping on the control “open tabs” in the
`control tool represented at the top of the display area, the browser tab navigation function is
`permitted to be activated, as shown in screenshot citation 1.6(1). In another example, tapping on the
`control “bookmark” in the control tool represented at the top of the display area permits the add and
`browse bookmark functions associated with the bookmark control tool to be activated, as shown in
`screenshot citation 1.6(2).
`
`
`In another example, when a user taps on the control tool “Find Word,” the word finding function
`associated with the control tool are permitted to be activated, as shown in screenshot citation 1.6(6).

`
`ACCUSED PRODUCTS
`The Accused Products comprise a method of claim 1, wherein the at least one control tool function
`includes a function of changing a display of information in the manipulable area portion.
`
`For example, the Accused Products provide the pre-installed Internet Browser application, in which
`control tool functions activated based on the user input change the display of information in the
`manipulable area. As one example, Internet Browser provides functions associated with control tool
`“Find Word,” which when activated changes the display of information in the manipulable area
`portion by navigating through different areas of a current internet document, as shown in exemplary
