`ABSTRACT
`Vehicular diagnostic arrangement includes a diagnostic sys(cid:173)
`tem arranged on the vehicle to determine whether any vehicu(cid:173)
`lar components is operating non-optimally, is expected to fail
`or has failed and generate an output indicative or representa(cid:173)
`tive thereof, and a communications device coupled to the
`diagnostic system and arranged to direct a transmission of the
`output of the diagnostic system to a remote location. Remote
`locations encompasses remote facilities which handle main(cid:173)
`tenance or monitoring of the vehicle such as a dealer of the
`vehicle, the manufacturer of the vehicle or the manufacturer
`of the components for which non-optimal operation has been
`detected. The communications device may be arranged to
`direct the transmission of the output of the diagnostic system
`to the remote location via the Internet, the remote location
`including or being an Internet-enabled device possessed by
`the dealer, manufacturer or owner of the vehicle.

`All of the references, patents and patent applications that
`are referred to herein and in the parent applications are incor(cid:173)
`porated by reference in their entirety as if they had each been
`set forth herein in full. Note that this application is one in a
`series of applications covering safety and other systems for
`vehicles and other uses. The disclosure herein goes beyond
`40 that needed to support the claims of the particular invention
`set forth herein. This is not to be construed that the inventor is
`releasing the unclaimed disclosure and subject matter into the
`public domain. Rather, it is intended that patent applications
`have been or will be filed to cover all of the subject matter
`45 disclosed below and in the current assignee's granted and
`pending applications. Also please note that the terms fre(cid:173)
`quently used below "the invention" or "this invention" is not
`meant to be construed that there is only one invention being
`discussed. Instead, when the terms "the invention" or "this
`invention" are used, it is referring to the particular invention
`being discussed in the paragraph where the term is used.
`
`FIELD OF THE INVENTION
`
`The present invention relates generally to arrangements
`and techniques for managing vehicle diagnostic information
`at least partly at locations remote from the vehicle.
`There are numerous apparatus, systems and methods
`described and disclosed herein. Many combinations of these
`are described but in order to conserve space the inventor has
`not described all combinations and permutations of these
`apparatus, systems and methods, however, the inventor
`intends that each and every such combination and permuta(cid:173)
`tion is an invention to be considered disclosed by this disclo(cid:173)
`sure. The inventor further intends to file divisional, continu(cid:173)
`ation and continuation-in-part applications to cover many of
`these combinations and permutations, if necessary.

`BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
`
`A detailed background of the invention is found in the
`parent applications, e.g., U.S. patent application Ser. No.
`08/476,077, now U.S. Pat. No. 5,809,437, and U.S. patent
`application Ser. No. 11/220,139, now U.S. Pat. No. 7,103,
`460, incorporated by reference herein.
`The definitions set forth in section 5.0 of the Background of
`the Invention section of the '139 application are also incor(cid:173)
`porated by reference herein.
`All of the patents, patent applications, technical papers and
`other references referenced in the ' 13 9 application and herein
`are incorporated herein by reference in their entirety.
`
`OBJECTS AND SUMMARY OF THE
`INVENTION
`
`It is an object of the present invention to provide new and
`improved arrangements and methods for generating, trans(cid:173)
`mitting, managing and/or responding to vehicle diagnostic
`information.
`In order to achieve this object and others, a vehicle
`equipped with the diagnostic arrangement in accordance with
`the invention includes a plurality of components, a diagnostic
`system arranged on the vehicle to determine whether any of
`the components is operating non-optimally, is expected to fail
`or has failed and generate an output indicative or representa(cid:173)
`tive thereof, and a communications device coupled to the
`diagnostic system and arranged to direct a transmission of the
`output of the diagnostic system to a remote location. The
`components may include any number of vehicle operating
`systems such as motive components, safety components,
`monitoring components and the like.
`The communications device may be arranged to automati(cid:173)
`cally direct the transmission of the output of the diagnostic
`system without manual intervention.
