`Claims
`
`1. A transport system, in which are provided an automated warehouse in which a plurality
`of shelves is connected endlessly and circulated in the vertical plane by a transport means, and a
`transport apparatus with a transfer apparatus for transporting articles outside of said automated
`warehouse,
`
`while the aforementioned automated warehouse is also provided with a transfer port so
`that the aforementioned transfer apparatus can transfer articles directly between the required
`shelf and the transport apparatus, and a means to determine the circulation direction according to
`the positions of said required shelf and the aforementioned transfer port.
`
`2. The transport system cited in Claim 1, characterized in that at least two types of the
`aforementioned transport apparatus -- a ceiling vehicle and an on-floor vehicle -- are provided,
`and at least two types of the aforementioned transfer port -- a first transfer port that is provided at
`the top of the automated warehouse for the ceiling vehicle and a second transfer port that is
`provided at the bottom for the on-floor vehicle -- are provided.
`
`3. The transport system cited in Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that a second automated
`warehouse that is provided with shelves and a transfer apparatus that provides travel movement
`and elevating movement is dually provided for the aforementioned automated warehouse.
`
`Detailed explanation of the invention
`[0001]
`Industrial application field
`
`This invention relates to a transport system that uses a circulating type automated
`warehouse.
`
`[0002]
`Prior art
`
`Automated warehouses in which a plurality of shelves is transported with a chain
`conveyor and circulated horizontally are known. With such automated warehouses, circulating
`shelves are provided on many vertical levels, and articles are carried in and out between the
`shelves and the outside with a transfer apparatus provided with an elevating apparatus. However,
`such automated warehouses are limited to those with a large installation area, the transfer
`apparatus must also be raised and lowered for transferring, and the speed of transferring would
`not be very fast.
`
`
`Daifuku Exhibit 1007, Page 3 of 17
`
`
`
`
`
`[0003]
`Problem for the invention
`
`The problem for this invention is to provide a transport system that can transfer articles in
`and out of an automated warehouse quickly with a simple configuration (Claims 1-3). The
`additional problem for the invention in Claim 2 is to provide a transport route for articles
`between a ceiling vehicle and an on-floor vehicle using an automated warehouse. The additional
`problem for the invention in Claim 3 is to provide a transport system that is provided with a
`large-volume, high-speed automated warehouse.
`
`[0004]
`Constitution of the invention
`
`This invention is a transport system that is provided with an automated warehouse in
`which a plurality of shelves is connected endlessly and circulated in the vertical plane by a
`transport means, and a transport apparatus with a transfer apparatus for transporting articles
`outside of said automated warehouse, while the aforementioned automated warehouse is also
`provided with a transfer port so that the aforementioned transfer apparatus can transfer articles
`directly between the required shelf and the transport apparatus, and a means for determining the
`circulation direction according to the positions of the required shelf and the aforementioned
`transfer port. Determining the circulation direction here means determining the circulation
`direction in a direction closer to the transfer port, but does not exclude circulating in a direction
`farther from the transfer port by around 1-2 shelves, for example, in relation to the current shelf
`circulation direction.
`
`[0005]
`It is preferable that at least two types of transport apparatus -- a ceiling vehicle and an on-
`
`floor vehicle -- are provided, and for at least two types of the aforementioned transfer port -- a
`first transfer port provided at the top of the automated warehouse for the ceiling vehicle and a
`second transfer port provided at the bottom for the on-floor vehicle -- to be provided.
`
`[0006]
`It is also preferable for the aforementioned automated warehouse to be additionally
`
`provided with a second automated warehouse provided with shelves and a transfer apparatus that
`provides travel movement and elevating movement.
`

`
`
`
`
`
`[0007]
`Operation and effects of the invention
`
`With the invention in Claim 1, a plurality of shelves is circulated in the vertical plane and
`the shelf circulation direction is determined according to the shelf required to store or remove
`articles and the position of the transfer port. An automated warehouse with a small installation
`area is also possible because the shelves are circulated in the vertical plane. Additionally, with
`transferring, articles are carried in and out directly at the required shelf with the transfer
`apparatus provided for the transport apparatus, so the configuration of the automated warehouse
`is simple. For these reasons, it is possible to provide a transport system that uses an automated
`warehouse with which articles can be loaded and unloaded quickly, that can be installed in a
`small area, and that has a simple configuration.
`
`[0008]
`With the invention in Claim 2, the automated warehouse is provided with two transfer
`
`ports -- a transfer port for the ceiling vehicle and a transfer port for the on-floor vehicle, so the
`automated warehouse can accommodate these two types of transport apparatuses and the
`automated warehouse can be used as a transport route between the ceiling vehicle and the on-
`floor vehicle. The automated warehouse can also be used as a temporary stocker, so it can also
`be used as a transport buffer between the ceiling vehicle and the on-floor vehicle.
`
`[0009]
`With the invention in Claim 3, there is dually provided a second automated warehouse
`
`that moves articles to and from shelves with a transfer apparatus that provides travel movement
`and elevating movement, and the aforementioned automated warehouse that uses circulating
`shelves. What dually provided means here is not limited to when they are disposed directly side-
`by-side but also includes when they are disposed on both sides of a processing apparatus and are
`used as a group, for example. With this, stocking that is slow but high-volume can be provided
`by the second automated warehouse, high-speed transferring can be provided by the automated
`warehouse that uses the circulating shelves, and a transport system provided with automated
`warehouses that has high speed and large volume overall may be obtained.
`
`[0010]
`Application example
`
`An application example is shown in Figures 1-4. Showing the connection between
`circulating type automated warehouse 2 and the transport apparatus in the application example in
`Figure 1, automated warehouse 2 is installed in a clean room 4, for example, 6 is the ceiling,
`
`Daifuku Exhibit 1007, Page 5 of 17
`
`
`
`
`
`clean air is blown downward, 8 is the floor, and a grating is provided to draw in air. Sprockets 10,
`12 are provided at the top and bottom of automated warehouse 2 and main chain 14 is circulated
`endlessly in the vertical plane. Auxiliary chains 16, 18, which are not shown, are circulated in the
`vertical plane by other sprockets in the same way.
`
`[0011]
`20 is a plurality of shelves that is connected to chains 14, 16, 18, and the configuration of
`
`a shelf 20 is shown in Figure 2. Main chain 14 is provided on both the left and right sides of shelf
`20, for example, and is driven by aforementioned sprockets 10, 12, one auxiliary chain 16, 18
`each for positioning is provided to the left and right of shelf 20, for example, shelf 20 is mounted
`on chains 14, 16, 18 with swivel pins 22, 24, 26, and the orientation of shelf 20 is kept constant.
`A silent chain or other chain is used for chains 14, 16, 18. Shelves 20 could also otherwise be
`circulated with belts or ropes, but chains, which provide reliable conveyance and excellent
`positioning accuracy, are preferred. In addition, the orientation is maintained by connecting
`shelves 20 to the three chains 14, 16, 18 at three points, but the way in which the orientation of
`shelves 20 is maintained could itself also be changed.
`
`[0012]
`Circulating type automated warehouse 2 is provided with three types of transfer ports 28,
`
`30, 32, for example. Of these, transfer port 28 is the transfer port for a ceiling vehicle, transfer
`port 30 is the transfer port for an unmanned transport vehicle, and transfer port 32 is the transfer
`port to a processing apparatus, such as for semiconductors. Transfer port 32 could moreover also
`be provided between processing apparatuses, such as for semiconductors. Automated warehouse
`2 is then used as a high-speed, low-volume stocker in which articles are transported between
`transfer ports 28, 30, 32, and it is used for handoff between the ceiling vehicle and the unmanned
`transport vehicle and for transport between them and a processing apparatus.
`
`[0013]
`34 is a rail that is supported by ceiling 6, 36 is the ceiling vehicle, and a view in which an
`
`article 40 is gripped by the transfer apparatus 38 is shown in Figure 1. A ceiling vehicle 36 that is
`provided with a transfer apparatus 38 is used, and the height of rail 34 and the type of drive,
`either linear motor drive or ordinary motor drive, are selected as appropriate. Unmanned
`transport vehicle 42 travels on floor 8 without a track, but it could also travel with a track, and it
`could travel at a position that is around the height of floor 8. With respect to processing
`apparatus 46, automated warehouse 2 is provided at one end thereof, for example, and is used to
`carry in-process articles in and out of processing apparatus 46.
`
`Daifuku Exhibit 1007, Page 6 of 17
`
`
`
`
`
`
`[0014]
`50 is a controller and it controls the direction of rotation of sprockets 10, 12 and rotates
`
`the shelf where transfer will take place (“required shelf” hereafter) in the direction close to the
`transfer port where transfer is to take place (in the direction with the shorter circulation distance)
`so that the required shelf appears at the required transfer port in the shortest time. However,
`chains 14, 16, 18 have inertia, and in consideration of this point as well, in cases when the
`distance to the required transfer port is not very different in either the forward or backward
`direction, it is not strictly necessary to circulate toward the shorter distance.
`
`[0015]
`Showing the overall configuration of the application example in Figure 3, automated
`
`warehouse 2 is provided at one end of processing apparatus 46, for example, and at the other end,
`there are provided a stacker crane, which is not shown, and an ordinary crane type automated
`warehouse 52 in which shelves are disposed at both sides. The configuration of crane type
`automated warehouse 52 moreover is itself known, so an illustration is omitted. 54 is a station for
`transfer with unmanned transport vehicle 42, 56 is a station for transfer with ceiling vehicle 36,
`and transfer ports 58 in which the respective transfer apparatuses are incorporated are provided
`in contact with stations 54, 56. That is, with transfer between stations 54, 56 and transport
`apparatuses 36, 42, transfer between stations is performed using transfer apparatuses 38, 44 of
`the transport apparatuses, and with transfer between stations 54, 56 and processing apparatus 46
`or the inside of automated warehouse 52, the transfer apparatuses provided at transfer ports 58
`are used.
`
`[0016]
`Circulating type automated warehouse 2 has high speed, since the shelves are only
`
`circulated, but the storage capability is small, so large-volume automated warehouse 52 is dually
`provided and non-expedited articles are carried in and out of crane type automated warehouse 52.
`Thus, a large-volume, high-speed automated warehouse can be obtained with automated
`warehouses 2, 52 overall. The scale of automated warehouse 2 moreover can be expanded by
`dually providing a plurality of circulating shelves. Even in this case, it is preferable to provide a
`plurality of units, with each circulating shelf as one unit, and for each circulating shelf to be able
`to rotate mutually independently.
`
`
`Daifuku Exhibit 1007, Page 7 of 17
`
`
`
`
`
`[0017]
`The exchange of articles between ceiling vehicle 36, unmanned transport vehicle 42 and
`
`automated warehouse 2 is shown in Figure 4. The horizontal arrows in the figure indicate the
`transfer of articles. With transfer with a circulating type automated warehouse 2, transfer
`apparatuses 38, 44, 48 are moved forward to the inside of automated warehouse 2 from transfer
`ports 28, 30, 32 and the articles are transferred directly with shelves 20. The ● provided on the
`vertical lines in Figure 4 indicates a time at which transport instruction processing is started.
`
`[0018]
`For example, with the transfer of articles from ceiling vehicle 36 for wide-area transport
`
`to unmanned transport vehicle 42 for short-distance transfer (for transfer within a process),
`transfer port 28 is first used, and article 40 is carried into automated warehouse 2 from ceiling
`vehicle 36. During this period, the direction of rotation of the circulating shelves is determined
`such that the required shelf will quickly appear at transfer port 28, and when transfer from
`ceiling vehicle 36 is next accepted, the direction of rotation of the circulating shelves is
`determined so that the transport distance to transfer port 30 for the unmanned transport vehicle
`will be short. When the required shelf reaches transfer port 30, the article is transferred by
`transfer apparatus 44 of unmanned transport vehicle 42 through transfer port 30. With this, a
`bypass path between ceiling vehicle 36 and unmanned transport vehicle 42 is obtained, this
`bypass path furthermore is at a high speed that utilizes the circulation of the shelves, and the
`direction of shelf circulation is controlled by controller 50, so the time required for transfer
`between ceiling vehicle 36 and unmanned transport vehicle 42 is short. In addition, when ceiling
`vehicle 36 and unmanned transport vehicle 42 are not in synch, articles can be stored in
`automated warehouse 2.
`
`[0019]
`In Figure 4, transport from unmanned transport vehicle 42 to processing apparatus 46
`
`serves as the transport of the next article. In this example, the shelves are circulated
`counterclockwise, for example, the article is transferred from unmanned transport vehicle 42,
`and the shelves are next circulated clockwise for the transfer, using transfer apparatus 48 of
`processing apparatus 46. In this way, with the application example, the direction of shelf
`circulation is determined according to the relative positions of the required transfer port and the
`required shelf, so the time required for loading/unloading is short.
