`Subject: Design review and Lensing questions.
`
`Thank you for a good design review. The model appears to be on track to meet our objectives, and I look forward seeing
`light through it.
`
`
`We have gone around the lensing question and the actual answer is a little complicated.
`
`
`1. Our design goal is to manage a cone of 30 degrees full angle in horizontal direction.
`2. This represents the widest angle of the 1.8:to 2:4 lens, when used with a full DMD array
`3. For the next 12 to 18 months we are "stuck" using fewer pixels due to some bandwidth issues inside the projector. This
`results in using 1628 pixels in "flat" mode (1.85:1) and 1920 pixels in "scope" mode (2.35:1) This is means that we are
`using 79.5% of the width in flat and 93.8% .
`
`the El Capitan theatre that we discussed as a potential target location to "show this off" has characteristics that are very
`close to the maximum design cone angle but uses a different lens.
`
`
`Here are the numbers:
`
`
`Screen width (flat) 38 feet
`Throw distance 71'
`Throw ratio - 1.842:1
`Horizontal cone half angle - 14.98 degrees (30 degrees full angle.)
`
`
`For flat (the next movie) the projector will use 1628 pixels per line instead of 2048. That means that the lens used will be
`the 1.45:1.8 lens as the lens ratio becomes 1.48 when you account for using less than full pixel array.
`
`
`Bottom line is that we should also look at the 1.45:1.8 lens for this project and see if we can make the same design work
`on both lenses since it would be useful to test the system at RealD's theatre, and demonstrate the system at the El
`Capitan theatre in Hollywood.
`
`I understand that this may add complexity to the current project - lets discuss it on Monday.
`
`
`Matt.
