`
`Fourth Annual
`Digital Life Show
`Brings Tech Trends
`Of Future To
`Present
`
`
`September 27, 2007
`
`It's a convention center floor filled with much of the
`cool gadgetry – the stuff that'll start generating so
`much buzz, techies, and maybe even not-so-techies,
`are going to swear you absolutely can't live without
`them come the winter holidays.
`
`But the 4th annual Digital Life show is unlike most
`other big tech expos because this one is wide open to
`the public.
`
`“It’s a great place to come and actually kick the tires
`and see the new products that are about to come out
`for the Christmas season,” says Tim Bajerin of Digital
`Life. “Everything from all the brand new PCs, you're
`going to see a lot of new cell phones, a lot of new
`games.”
`
`Even though the doors are opened to consumers, a
`few manufacturers are still using the opportunity to
`unveil brand new products first to the press, and then
`to the public. Take the new Gateway desktop called
`the One, which, like an Apple iMac, jams everything
`right into the monitor. And iRobot, from the folks
`behind the Roomba robotic vacuum cleaner, have two
`totally new ones for us.
`
`“The iRobot Looj is a new product that's actually made
`to clean your gutters,” says Nancy Smith of iRobot. “So
`very simply, you climb up your ladder once, drop it in
`your gutter, and then there's a handle that removes
`and you drive it forward spinning and auger that shoots
`all of the debris and gunk out of your gutters onto the
`ground. The iRobot Connector is a whole new way of
`communicating and it's communicating through a robot
`to your home. So what it allows you to do is have two
`way audio and one way video in your home. So if you
`kinda think of it as a mobile teleconferencing video
`web service for your home.”
`
`There’s lots of stuff on display for parents and for kids,
`including one gadget kids will probably want and
`parents will probably want to get for their kids. It could
`save mom and dad some money and some fighting
`over the shared family PC.
`
`It's called the Z2 Zipit wireless messenger for teens.

`
`“We designed this so a kid can be at home without
`having to turn the PC on or if they're fighting for the
`PC, they can turn this on and get to their IM any time,”
`says Frank Greer of Zipit Wireless. “It supports Wi-Fi,
`so if you’ve got a home network you just turn it on and
`it works. There' s no monthly fees, no messaging fees,
`you just buy it and chat. Parents who've seen very high
`cell phone bills from kids who text, this is a great
`alternative.”
`
`The downside, you'll then probably have to beef up the
`home entertainment setup in your living room if you
`ever want to see that teen again.
