`Frequently Asked
`Q
`ti
`
`Here are some questions that are commonly asked.
`
`Having problems using Internet Explorer 5.0 on a PC or
`Internet Explorer 4.5 on a Mac?
`LiveBid.com has been successfully tested using Internet
`Explorer 4.5 (MAC) and 5.0 (PC). However, as with all
`new technologies LiveBid.com still recommends all
`users to use Netscape 4.0+ to use this service.
`
`When I go to the LiveBid home page the Auction Viewer on
`the right side of my screen doesn't change.
`During periods when no auctions events are running the
`right side of the screen displays a sample Auction
`Viewer. This is automatically replaced with a live Auction
`Viewer once an event begins.
`
`How long does it take to get registered?
`Registration should take just a few minutes!
`
`I have registered with LiveBid. What else must I do to bid
`in an auction.
`Once you have have registered with LiveBid you must
`register for a specific auction. You can get to this area
`by clicking the "GETTING started" menu option on the
`left and then selecting "Register" from the list of options.
`
`How long does it take to get approved as a bidder?
`The auction house will usually either approve or deny
`you participation in the auction during the week prior to
`the actual event. This, however, differs from auction
`house to auction house. TIP: If you enter a credit card
`when registering with LiveBid the approval process is, in
`most cases much quicker.
`
`Where can I get an auction catalogue?
`You may preview our online catalogues for a specific
`auction, or most auction houses will be willing to provide
`you a printed copy on request. (There may be a fee from
`the auction house for this; policies vary.) In most cases,
`we suggest contacting the auction house by phone or
`visiting their web site, if available.
`
`Can I place absentee bids?
`Many auction houses will allow you to place bids ahead
`of time. If so, you can find a "Bid Now!" button on the
`description of any product available for preview. You
`must still register for the auction in order for your
`absentee bid to be accepted!
`
`How can I register a prebid for an item prior to the
`auction?
`Most auctions accept prebids prior to the event's start.
`Prebids are entered from the inventory preview window.
`
`Can I place maximum bids (also known as Bid Caps)?
`Yes! It is handled in the same manner as prebids: when
`specifying a prebid, you may also specify a maximum
`value that you would be willing to pay if someone
`outbids your initial offer.
`
`Was my pre-bid accepted?
`When you place a prebid, you will receive an email

`
`confirming your bid and bid amount. If your bid wins, you
`will be notified after the auction. Keep in mind that you
`must register for the auction so that the auction house
`can verify you as a bidder, even if you will not attend.
`
`Will I get notified if I have been outbid?
`If you place a prebid and are outbid before the auction
`starts, you will be notified by email.
`
`When will I know if I am the successful bidder?
`You will receive an e-mail after the auction with more
`details if you were the winning bidder on one or more
`lots.
`
`Is it possible that my internet bid was not placed?
`If you place a pre-bid and are not approved by the
`auction house, whether due to insufficient information
`(lack of contact or billing info, for example), your bid will
`not be submitted.
`
`Where can I find out the auction results?
`Most auction houses will inform you what the results of
`an auction were upon request. LiveBid does not have
`the official results, and we recommend that you contact
`the auction house for more information on what a
`product sold for.
`
`How are items shipped and who pays shipping charges?
`The auction house will contact you regarding their
`shipping terms if you win a bid.
`
`How can I switch between rings?
`If there is more than one ring or more than one auction
`available on LiveBid at the moment, there will be a
`"change channel" button in the Auction Viewer.
`
`Why can't I see the full screen?
`You may have to maximize your browser window. If it is
`still too small, you will have to change your screen
`resolution to 800x600 or higher. In Windows 95, you can
`do this by adjusting your screen resolution in the Display
`control panel.
`
`While an auction is running the right side of my screen is
`blank.
`This is the area in which the Auction Viewer should be
`running. Your browser must be Java enabled to see the
`Auction Viewer. If your computer system is behind a
`firewall the Java may not function properly. For
`configuration requirements go to System Requirements.
`
`What should I do if the auction viewer freezes?
`There may be pauses between products, but if your
`auction viewer was functioning and has stopped working
`for a length of time, you may find it effective to reload the
`page or even to close your browser and reopen it.
`
`When I click on the audio icon nothing happens.
`To listen to an auction your system must have
`RealAudio installed. For configuration requirements go
`to System Requirements.
`
`Why is the RealAudio not in sync with the changing bids?
`Due to bandwidth limitations and the speed of the
`auction, the audio can sometimes be a couple of
`seconds behind. In all cases, the bid numbers on your
`screen are transmitted to you faster than the audio, and
`should be used as the authoritative source.
