`
`SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Feb. 1, 1999 -- Looking to participate in the world of premier auctions
`from the comfort of your computer? Yahoo!® Auctions now offers registered Yahoo! users an
`opportunity to get into the auction action. Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ: YHOO), today announced an
`agreement between Yahoo! Auctions (http://auctions.yahoo.com), an online person-to-person
`marketplace, and LiveBid.com, a pioneer in live event-based auctions, to enable users to
`participate in an event hosted by globally-renowned auction house Butterfield & Butterfield.
`On February 15-16, an Entertainment Memorabilia sale debuts as the first Butterfield & Butterfield
`auction to offer visitors a unique opportunity to listen, watch and/or bid real-time online, along with
`bidders in Butterfield's Los Angeles gallery, for vintage film posters, props, and costumes as well
`as other notable collectibles. The auction event takes place on Monday and Tuesday evenings,
`February 15 and 16, at Butterfield & Butterfield's Sunset Boulevard gallery. Simultaneously,
`bidders will be participating from around the world online at Yahoo! Auctions at
`http://auctions.yahoo.com.
`"Yahoo! Auctions offers an ideal platform to bring together the world's largest Web audience, the
`authenticity and tradition of a premier auction house, and cutting-edge commerce technology to
`deliver an interactive auction adventure unlike any other," said Tim Brady, vice president of
`production and executive producer, Yahoo! Inc. "Working with LiveBid.com and Butterfield,
`Yahoo! enables B&B customers as well as potential bidders across the globe to experience this
`historic auction event and overcome geographic obstacles, travel costs, and time constraints,
`which in the past may have hindered participation in such a high-profile auction."
`"We are proud to be associated with two great companies in such a high-profile event. Our patent
`-pending, live-auction technology makes it possible for Yahoo! users and Butterfield &
`Butterfield's customers to participate no matter what corner of the world they are in," said Matt
`Williams, president and chief executive officer of LiveBid.com. "From our experience, auction
`houses using LiveBid.com's technology have found that as much as 50 percent of their inventory
`has been sold to Internet bidders, and have realized significant increases in lot prices due to the
`'buying power'of online bidders."
`"This entertainment memorabilia auction brings together some of Butterfield's finest selections of
`rare and vintage film posters, props and costumes for interested users to view and for pre-
`qualified participants to bid on, whether sitting in our Sunset Boulevard gallery or at a computer in
`the comfort of their home," said Michael Schwartz, director of the Entertainment Memorabilia
`Department at Butterfield & Butterfield. "Working with Yahoo! Auctions and LiveBid.com as part of
`this live Internet auction experience, Butterfield is able to bring these spectacular pieces to
`Yahoo!'s global audience of users who, prior to this, may not have had easy access to an auction
`of this magnitude."
`The first session, beginning at 7 p.m. PT on Monday, February 15, will offer vintage film posters
`featuring classic horror and comedy films, Westerns, black-cat films and animated features.
`Poster and window cards from Stagecoach, Casablanca, La Dolce Vita and The Wizard of Oz will
`be sold to the highest bidders, whether in the auction room, bidding in real-time over the Internet,
