`
`ADP®
`Advanced Desiccant Polymer
`
`Purpose
`To integrate moisture adsorption properties into any
`plastic packaging system by using a desiccant polymer.
`
`What is it?
`Süd-Chemie’s Advanced Desiccant Polymer (ADP®)is
`a material that combines the advantages of traditional
`thermoplastic polymers with the benefits of advanced
`moisture protection. Customized to suit customers’
`specific needs, ADP can be molded into virtually any
`shape or size and have dust-free desiccant protection built
`directly into their polymer walls.
`
`Why use it?
`Products like diagnostic test strips, pharmaceuticals,
`medical devices and electronics are often extremely
`sensitive to moisture. With ADP, packaging solutions like
`hinge-cap tubes, dosers, dispensers, inhalers and bottles
`can be molded from desiccant polymer material. Caps of
`fertility or pregnancy test kits or complete IVD housings
`can be molded from ADP to maintin low humidity levels
`and protect sensitive reagents from moisture.
`
`With ADP, manufacturers can streamline workflow
`by eliminating the need for desiccant insertion, foil
`pouching or carton packaging. Space is also maximized
`because desiccant is built into the polymer matrix. ADP
`allows manufacturers to utilize the entire volume of
`their packaging for their product without an extraneous
`desiccant. Because ADP has an improved adsorption
`capacity per unit of volume, it can be integrated into
`space-restricted packages or can replace an existing
`plastic component within a device.
`
`All materials used in ADP products for pharmaceutical use
`comply withCFR 21 or FDA regulations.
`
`Available configurations
`Products made with ADP desiccant polymer are non-
`dusting, safe and environmentally friendly. All products
`are customized to meet individual customer needs, making
`the possibilities almost endless.

`
`Key Advantages
`
`• Functional integration an existing package or device
`component can be used to implement desiccant
`capabilities on top of its original function
`
`• ADP desiccant kinetics can be customized to meet
`specific absorption rates
`
`• ADP offers an improved adsorption capacity per unit
`of volume and is the ideal desiccant where packaging
`space is restricted

`
`Handy Active Tube® (HAT®)
`Flip-Top Tube Packaging
`
`Purpose
`To extend the shelf life and efficacy of pharmaceutical,
`nutraceutical and diagnostic products by protecting from
`moisture, while offering an ergonomic flip-top package.
`
`What are they?
`Süd-Chemie’s Handy Active Tubes®, or HAT®,are durable,
`rigid containers with a convenient flip-top cap and built-in
`desiccant. The HAT line of flip-top tubes is ideal package
`for diagnostic test strips, as well as pharmaceuticals such
`as effervescent tablets, chewables and lozenges. The
`tube packaging system effectively protects products from
`breakage and moisture degradation, supporting shelf-life,
`efficacy and brand equity.
`
`Why use them?
`HAT products are ideal for diagnostic test strip packaging
`as well as pharmaceutical packaging. For example,
`products like IVD test strips and effervescent tablets
`are extremely sensitive. Packaging must protect from
`moisture and light and provide for mechanical stability.
`
`For diagnostic test strips accuracy is paramount, and
`moisture is a key pathway to degradation of diagnostic
`reagents. In the case of effervescents, tablets degrade
`quickly and begin to effervesce in the presence of
`excess moisture. Thus, proper packaging with moisture
`protection is essential to protect these types of moisture
`sensitive products.
`
`The ergonomic flip-top closure of Handy Active Tubes
`encourages re-closing of the container to prevent further
`degradation, as well as provide consumer appeal.
`
`HAT solutions help manufacturers streamline workflow by
`eliminating the need for desiccant insertion, foil pouching
`or carton packaging. Designed with automation in mind,
`they feature a unique two-piece hinge-cap design ideal for
`use in automated filling lines.
`
`The HAT line of flip-top tubes is not only ideal for
`diagnostic test strips or effervescent tablets, but can be
`used for various applications including powdered drinks,
`candy and nutritionals.
`
`Handy Active Tubes® have built-in desiccant and are ideal for
`packaging effervescent tables or diagnostic test strips, providing
`mechnical stability as well as protection from moisture and light.
`
`Key Advantages
`
`• Desiccant can be incorprated into the cap or directly
`into the polymer matrix to provide moisture protection
`
`• Flip-top closure provides consumer appeal,
`ergonomics and liklihood of closure for prolonged
`protection
`
`• HAT-Snap can be printed using 6-color offset
`printing for product information and branding

`
`Handy Active Tube® (HAT®)
`
`Available Configurations
`Handy Active Tubes are fully customizable, designed
`to your specifications, so sizes and configurations are
`virtually endless. Tubes can include tamper evidence
`and child resistance. There are two basic designs:
`
`HAT®-In (Desiccant Polymer): Süd-Chemie’s HAT-In
`tubes have desiccant built into the polymer matrix of the
`tube itself. The tube is made of Süd-Chemie’s signature
`Advanced Desiccant Polymer (ADP™) material, which
`combines the advantages of traditional polymers – such
`as rigid protection and ergonomic design – with the
`benefits of advanced moisture protection.
`
`HAT®-Snap (Desiccant Cap): The HAT-Snap
`incorporates raw-profile desiccant into the flip-top cap.
`Because the flip-top closure is attached to a ring that
`snaps onto standard Süd-Chemie tubes, tubes are not
`only efficient to produce, they can include 6-color offset
`printing for marketing and product information. The
`HAT-Snap also can incorporate a spiral lip in order to
`hold effervescent tablets in place.
`
`HAT®-In (above) is
`made with Süd-Chemie’s
`signature Advanced
`Desiccant Polymer
`(ADP™); HAT®-Snap
`(right) contains desiccant
`in the cap and can be
`printed using 6-color
`offset printing for vibrant
`graphics (shown here
`with loop spiral for
`effervescent packaging).
