`By applying vacuum where it is needed – around the distal part of the limb – Unity™ helps to stabilize volume while creating highly
`effective and sleeveless vacuum suspension.
`
`The distal end of the limb, where there is typically more soft tissue, is the area most susceptible to volume fluctuations and the area
`which requires efficient stabilization to maintain good suspension and prosthetic function. In contrast, the area closer to the knee
`containing bones and tendons is relatively stable over the course of the day.
`
`Applying the vacuum distally means the area above the seal is not restricted in any way.

`1. Frame & Support Blade
`The support blade is attached to the foot (proximally) while the frame sits in the heel pad. The two are fixed to each other where they
`meet, close to the middle of the foot. The frame and support blade are designed in a way that when weight is placed on the heel of the
`prosthetic foot the frame moves upward and the support blade moves downwards, thus pulling and expanding the membrane between
`them.
`
`2. Check valves
`When air is efficiently drawn out from the socket at each step, the check valves ensure that the air does not flow back into the socket.
`
`3. Heel pad
`The heel pad acts as a secure support for Unity’s upper blade, and as a bumper (stop) for heel displacement at high load.
`
`4. Membrane
`The membrane pump mechanism is located between the two blades. When the membrane expands, air is efficiently drawn out of the
`socket.
`
`The Unity system has a tri-function valve, which enables an effective vacuum to be achieved easily, quickly and automatically, within a
`few gentle steps. Equally important to the user is the release function – just press the button and the vacuum is released instantly.
