`Background
`José Domingos Santos is Associate Professor in Faculty of Engineering,
`University of Porto (FEUP) and develops his research activity in the Institute
`of Biomedical Engineering (INEB). He gained his Ph.D. in 1993 after
`working in the Interdisciplinary Research Centre (IRC) in Biomedical
`Materials, University of London, under the directorship of Professor W.
`Bonfield, on the development of bioactive ceramic composites for biomedical
`applications. Since 1994 he has been responsible for the M. Sc. course on
`Materials Engineering in FEUP.
